In the last minute reesul is 1-0 for Bologna. Benevento score a goal and betfair make suspension. After this betfair open the marker and of course they deleted all stakes. After goal with 2 minutes team ready for the continuation. And traders trade draw at 1,02 - 1,03. But at this point the referee started check the video referee and after more 2 minutes he  void the goal. So result again 1-0 for Bologna. This is a managed market. Why open betfair the market if goal is not sure? and why write betfair 1-1 result if result is not sure? I am sure in that this is unfair without suspension and mislead the players and serious traders also, I write for betfair but the man at computer wrote all ok and all correct. I'd like ask is it correct? ridiculous. all other times betfair void the bets if they born at wrong conditions. NOW NOT! :D Congratulations! Maybe some lucky men won unauthorized big money...but all others who after goal did bets for the draw at 1,01-1,04 odds with more hundreds or thousand maybe ten thousands eur lost these money. I can say again this is pathetic proceedings. All can do mistake. That was betfair mistake they did not suspension ... but this is not problem...only that why didnt they order the situation how as the correct and fair???? Some mates won other mates's money with fraud. If betfair doesnt want manage the market dont indicate it is managed.......................LOL

its important to know that Italy now uses the video assistant referee and everytime theres a goal or important decision in the penalty area they go and check the VAR

so even though it looked like a goal there was an offside in the build up

its just something we have to work around

it was a crazy end to the game, some people win and lost big here

It's true but where is the suspension on this managed market? After this phantom goal betfair opened the market immediately and stakes opened on the draw about 1,03 - 1,04 odds.
So i don't understand betfair why not do suspension when the result is not sure. Moreover it show wrong result also. The trading become pointless...

Why did they allow this, yet in the France friendly they cancelled all bets matched when the decision was overturned.

People who bet at those kind of odds get what they deserve betting thousands to win a few pounds ha i say.
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 1:43 PM BST
im not defending the irrational betfair here because they can change their stance game to game but back during that friendly, nobody had any idea what impact in the game VAR would have nor on the bf markets.

the france game is ancient history and irrelevant now, as its being used in the mls, bundesliga and in italy.  there have been dozens of incidents this past 2 weeks, this is far from the first, bf will reopen markets before a decision is final, VAR can also stop a game when free flowing if theres been a serious foul/pen, so you cant rely on suspend monkey.

the new reality is that you need to price in the chance of a decision being overturned in a unsuspended market, each ref has their own likelyhood of using VAR and you need to know the laws of the game inside out if you want to bet, watch every VAR incident t closely and stop trying to be a mug money buyer like the OP here.

ive made a lot of money from VAR

columbus v la glaaxy last wednesday night

VAR gave 2 pens, disallowed a goal and sent a player off

the same night VAR gave portland a penalty and disallowed a goal

last weekend VAR disallowed a first half goal in the frieburg v eintracht frankfurt game

VAR was used in the juve and bologna this weekend

if you cant figure out how to make it pay then you should maybe stick to the high street

Not suspending on the occurrence of a Material Event

If Betfair does not suspend a market on time for the occurrence of a Material Event, Betfair reserves the right to void bets unfairly matched after the Material Event has occurred. Voiding of these bets may take place during the event or retrospectively once a game is completed.

Definition of “Material Event”

For the purpose of these Exchange Rules, a "Material Event" shall mean a goal being scored, a penalty being awarded or a player being sent off.

By definition a VAR decision is a Material Event.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/08/27/video-review-colorado-awarded-goal-originally-disallowed-offside?autoplay=true

look at the onscreen clock here.

goal goes in 81:17, the VAR ref doesnt say anything until 82:36, with the goal being awarded 84:30

you can argue that betfair should suspend between 82:36 and 84:30, which they have been doing when theyve caught it but they wont suspend for over a minute because of an offside decision.

its either we have what we have now, where we need to use our judgement inplay, asking questions like 'did the keeper get fouled', 'was there an offside' OR betfair have 4 minute suspends for every offside decision or penalty box incident, which would account for about 30-40 minutes per game.

anyone betting in italy, germany or the USA without live fast pictures is a mug and should lose their money, thats how the exchange is supposed to work, like any market
Report DIE LINKE August 27, 2017 2:17 PM BST
seems simple enough, if the ball is in the net the SM should not be unsuspending until the ball is moving again, i.e. either from a kick-off or a free-kick/offside.
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 2:18 PM BST
and if the VAR decision comes in after the ball is moving?
Report DIE LINKE August 27, 2017 2:21 PM BST
Then its caveat emptor. Don't think any German refs have called VAR after the ball is moving. I don't bet on tinpot leagues like the MLS, so can't comment on those.
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 2:22 PM BST
we all need to be more aware of whats going on in the game and we can all make money from this.

if people who have poor judgement start to blame VAR for their losses, then we will go to a world of 30 second countdownas and 4 minute suspends, its not impossible
Report hippie August 27, 2017 2:22 PM BST
If a goal scored in the 98th minute is disallowed then the score was never 1-1 and odds of 1.01-1.04 for the draw is in palpable error territory.

incidents have happened in the past even before VAR, usually when an inplay game has had the onscreen scoreboard change to add a goal but its actually been disallowed, those watching think theyre buying money.

anyone putting in fat finger bets trying to buy money need to be aware of whats possible, i have no sympathy and congratulate the plunter who got £3 on @1000.0 for 0-1.

ive won and lost on VAR, i really enjoy it, i dont want it taken away because people dont know the rules of the sport they are betting on

Report hippie August 27, 2017 2:46 PM BST
I might see if any Italian refs want to go into business (unless the mafia beat me to it). All they have to do is let the most outrageous off-side goals stand, let the aggrieved team freak out for a couple of minutes before he makes the VAR signal and by the time he reverses the decision I'll have fleeced the market. If I offer commission only I should get a lot more business.

VAR is a game changer and the rules and regulations need to accommodate it.
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 2:59 PM BST
sadly the only real solution i can see is extended countdowns and longer suspends, which nobody really wants

im pretty sure the refs in italy are already sewn up judging by that bolgne game Laugh
Report Adibadinho August 27, 2017 4:24 PM BST
This is a managed market and this is a material event. The only correct step if Betfair does suspension after the goal and doesnt open the market until that point when the goal already sure. ( All feed on betfair, in television and on all other show result 1-1 for 2 minutes after the phantom goal. All feed of world. )

If Betfair doesnt do this betfair supports unfair bets because the final decision was after the phantom goal for 3-4 minutes. Where is the fair play? And i saw lot of case when betfair voided bets correctly. Betfair voided also on this match also at under/over markets. Of course over/under market more prominent market as goal but the theory is same. So i dont understand betfair why does difference. Of course there is a lucky other side also but they got the money unfairly.

I write a concrete example when i was on the positive side on a same situation and betfair voided all bets.

It was a Barcelona match if i remember well. In the penality box there was a sliding. The referre didn't whistle. After this players started to fiercely complain. At this POINT i bet for this team maybe referee finally give penality. If yes and this will be goal i win big money if no i do cash out in some EUR minus. So referee finally gave penality and betfair started do suspension only at this point. So i could bet for the team who finally got the penality. They scored goal and i traded out my money in big green. Of course this is not fair bet buty i taked luck. And after match betfair voided my bets.

These are two same situation and once betfair void bet once no. This is totally illogical. That is other thing player were careful or no. This is not the essence.

The essence is the theory and the fair play. Betfair say also it does suspension at material event and it forget does it after it can void al bets.
Report Angela Rebecchi August 27, 2017 4:29 PM BST
Spot on Adib, they seem to pick and choose when to void bets. It's ridiculous especially as you are making future bets based on your position which later on you find never existed.
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 5:53 PM BST
what matches have they voided on due to the use of VAR?

are you still talking about the irrelevant international experiments earlier this year?

bf have set the precedent, they will open before the VAR decision is made, we have to bet accordingly

betfair open up stewards enquiry decisions on the exchange and sportsbook allows next team to score betting when theres a pen, I dont see why the exchange should be any different
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 5:56 PM BST
perhaps we need to just give everyone who bets on the exchange loses back when they make bad decisions, like trying to by at 1.02 when the virtual ref has been operating in italy for 2 weeks already Confused
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 6:09 PM BST
the situation in that barca game and in future VAR matches could be solved with 30-60second countdowns and 3-4minute suspends, if you dont want to bet into markets before a decision is taken either way thats the only solution.

theres no way that betfair can get into a regular situation where theres short suspends and countdowns, then having to constantly refund losing gamblers Laugh

we have to bet knowing its there and whats possible.

First side lost big amounts, the other side won unfair big amounts with with little some euros. But betfair support the second side. And once betfair void bets once not... this is big chaos.
Report clacherholiday2 August 27, 2017 6:24 PM BST
as a trader betting large sums you have to be fully aware of whats possible in the match, VAR was used in other italian games, it is nobodies fault you were not aware a disallowed goal could happen.

it goes both ways, last week RSL scored a goal but before it went in the net, another player fouled the goalkeeper.  markets reopened and I bet unders on goals thinking the free kick would be given and the goal disallowed, I got it right.

last night, a scramble in the box in the Orlando game had a foul that went to review, I bet thinking there would be a penalty and the ref said no, I lost.
