Proposed qualifier format:
Europe: 16 teams (up from 13) Asia: Eight (up from four and a play-off spot) Oceania: one (up from a play-off spot) Africa: Nine (up from five) South America: six (up from four and a play-off spot) CONCACAF: six (up from three and a play-off spot) ![]() |

South Americans get as robbed in that proposed format as anybody. Albeit it's a small continent, but their 7th best team is likely far better than some of those qualifiers from Asia.
For Asia that would currently mean: Iran, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Syria, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Australia, UAE. |

It's a fairly basic corruption heat map

more countries = more votes for the Infantino.

why stop at 48 ?
|
|
By:
I suppose 48 gives a little more hope to minnows such as the sweaty socks. Probably need at least double that though to have a reasonable chance of qualifying again this millennium.

always have to get a dig in about Scotland, give it a rest ffs. your country only qualify and that's it. now move on. cheers.

By:
N88uk, Not sure South America get robbed. There are only 10 teams competing and 6 qualify. That's perfectly generous. Europe come off worst imo.

By:
yeah, it's harder not to qualify in South America than it is to qualify

Groups of 3 are a joke and then its straight to a knock out a la FA cup and if Lincoln city can make the quarters theres always hope for England

maybe 12 groups of 4 might be ok, 12 pool winners go through then 4 more places, say for instance of the 2nd teams the two top fifa ranked teams go through, maybe then the top team on goals scored and perhaps the highest flag points from round one or something similer.

They should have increased it to 40 teams retaining the 8 groups but now of 5 teams instead of the present 4 with top 2 progressing and yes i know all the final games cannot be played at the same time as 5 into 4 doesn't go but it could be arranged whereby the lowest seeded team from that group completes there quota of 4 games first then the remaining 4 teams complete there last fixture simultaneously and they all have the advantage in doing so because they are higher seeded. The only complication will be rest times between games as some teams would get less or more than others within that group but again that can be arranged by seeding order.

There will be that with 3 team groups anyway. It's going to be a clear and obvious advantage to play the 1st and 3rd match and have like 8 days between matches than the other 2 teams playing 2 matches in 4 days.

going by the fifa rankings europe should have 26 teams in a 48 team world cup and some of those lower ranked european teams are not up to much so just think how bad the 10 worse teams taking their place will be
|
|
By:
the Europeans are losing out in this one .
Too many duff teams - at least make the duff qualifiers play off against the Euro teams that missed out |
|
By:
It's a shame we cannot bypass fifa and just have a massive Euro tournament and invite the South Americans as the rest will never win it
