Another strength of Fraser is he is tiny with tremendous pace and is pushed over easily. He must of earned Bournemouth 4 or 5 penalties already this season.

Not sure I have seen enough of Fraser rgds his delivery, seen snodgrass when at hull this season and at West Ham, and his set piece piece stuff is right up there. He had some issues with temperament but seems to have calmed down.

Remember Fraser against Liverpool and he came on and changed the game, hopefully he does kick on, but if u are looking to switch players I would leaving out Forrest for him. Just think when u r lacking goals in the team, (and we are) u need a strength in set piece. Look at the those corners going in, we had one disallowed and a couple cleared off line from good deliveries. IMO the teams who punch above their weight typically are well organised and are strong at the set piece.

Celtic used to be the set piece masters in Martin O'Neils era

Agreed I'd drop Forrest before Snodgrass.  Still plenty of time before the next set of games for my opinion on any of these players to change.

And to be fair, Armstrong is an option for set piece as he looks a proper player with two feet as well.

Probably fair to say o neill teams hallmark is physical and strong at the set piece

I'm not sure you can pick a player just for his set piece delivery. His inswinging balls were dangerous low pacy and flat but his outswinging balls are a total waste far too high easy to defend. At Hull I don't think he delivered great balls in he just had player like Dawson and McGuire attacking them which made them a threat. If he gets space ie Griffiths sitter he can put it on a plate but too many times he gets the ball out wide and faced up with a defender has to play it back as he has no pace or a trick.

Forrest burst onto the scene at Celtic but hasn't really improved imo

Rodgers seems to get more out him

Also not much high crosssing now so he get's of with low passes as his crossing was sh1te

Would agree u can't pick a player on that alone...but...when u / we are at a certain level, a level of pragmatism comes into it. I suppose in terms of hull, u can look at that way (great physical targets ) and / or great delivery.

I think the whole set piece emphasis in football did get raised with (sir) David B. I used to get fed up hearing how great his was, and used to get fed up hearing how great he was because he could ping a ball in, but I do think in the modern game there is a lack of quality from wide positions...maybe it's better set up from defensive team but I genuinely think there is a lack of it in the modern game and it's more important that it was in previous eras

Big Dunc in the end was just used as a last ditch target man

i actually really liked beckham as a player after he went to madrid and started playing in the middle behind zidane.  at united and for england theyd stick him out wide so he could play in looping diagonal balls but when given some space as an outlet for the back line he was imaense as a playmaker.

snodgrass shouldnt be uttered in the same breath

Beckham was respected a lot for his work rate at Madrid

Last to leave the pitch a lot going over to the fans etc

He is a d1ck of the field though and i never rated him that highly on it but was a good crosser Grin

Definitely when you are a team of limited ability set pieces can be a massive weapon, maybe even your main one. West Brom and Tony Pulis are a great example. By all accounts they work tirelessly at their set pieces and with Brunt's flat pacy delivery they threaten no matter who they play. But they have the huge threat of McAuley as well as Dawson, Evans and Rondon etc. Sadly for Scotland we have a team of mostly midgets as Strachan strangely keeps mentioning.

That's a fair point, maybe the team is not setup ideally in that regard. If Fraser does continue to improve and gets a good injury free run then u have two different styles on the left side to pick from and that's definitely a good thing.

Fair play for keeping trying but what a soft goal in the end! Most sunday morning goalies would have saved that.

What has happened to Scottish football. Being of a certain age foreign players were Jocks and were top players. Now ????? I saw a better standard of football yesterday watching the Scunthorpe and Doncaster games Mischief
