After the weekend's success I've spotted another false fav, this time in the CL matches this Wednesday.

PSV are away to Rostov, and currently priced around 2.50, clear favs with Rostov around 3.30.
PSV and Rostov are in a group with Bayern and Ath Madrid so they've got no chance of progressing. They'll be fighting it out for third spot and Europa consolation.
But the market seems to think Rostov are mugs and PSV deserve to be clear favs, even in Russia.

I think they've got this badly wrong.

Rostov almost won the Russian Premier League, losing out only on the last day, finishing 2nd to CSK Moscow. They may not be a familiar name like the Moscow sides or Zenit but they are an improving side and are strong at home. Domestically, they've started well enough, sitting 5th, and are unbeaten at home (winning 4 and drawing 1).
In Europe their first CL group match was away to Bayern were they got schooled 5-0, but that can and will happen to many better sides than Rostov.
But they had to qualify to get into the CL group stages. They saw off Anderlecht, and then they beat Ajax (drawing in Amsterdam, and then smashing them 4-1 at home).

Laying Dutch sides in the CL has been very profitable in recent years, Dutch football is of a weak standard these days, and PSV are not CL standard. They haven't won any of their last 6 away matches and I don't think they'll be be winning in a tough place like Rostov.

LAY PSV all day at this silly price. False favourites imo.

Agree with that. I've seen Rostov 4-5 times this season and it's remarkable what they're doing considering they haven't been paid all season.

The Iranian lad (no 20) looks decent and has goals in him.

Spot on Platini

I posted similar sentiments about Ajax in the previous CL rounds

I am convinced that Ajax (and Dutch football in general) over the last 5 years have contributed to putting Cruyff in his grave

I don't remember now but I suspect the prices on Ajax v Rostov were similar ?   Always over bet these Dutch sides, priced up on OLD reputation.

Right on cue, the Dutch are being overbet again, now into 2.42 Crazy

Time for a reality check :

Rostov are 24 matches unbeaten at home
PSV without an away European win in six games
Rostov hammered PSV's Dutch rivals Ajax in the play-offs, just a few weeks ago.

I agree with the OP. Seems silly that a side that spanked Ajax 4-1, the team that handed the title to PSV, are the underdogs. Decent write up too, idiots like Mug88 take note

Yep win or lose well picked out Plats that feckin Dutch side have morphed into a pub team like Legia Warsaw over the past year.

Lay PSV for me too, only niggle is Spurs last night owned CSKA with 5 first teamers missing, still cannot back PSV to score atm far less win.

I was watching the Spurs game last night, they're a very good side just now, we know that. But the Russians had chances to score and had it been at their usual home ground, I think they'd have got something from the game. Home advantage is massive in this comp, and that was really negated last night (new stadium for CSKA). Unlike CSKA, Rostov will have the big home advantage tonight, and anyway Spurs are light years better than PSV.

I laid them at 2.5 following your advice.  Price is now 2.14 to lay - should I take a loss or top up?

Rob, I've layed at 2.50 (and could have greened when they went out to 2.62 but I didn't, expecting them to be 2.70 +)

It's your decision, but personally I will be letting it ride at the current insane price.

I also got some 7/2 on Rostov last night with Stan James - another insane price.

I actually agree with you that the price is a bit odd, but the very fact that you can get on with SJ leads me to believe you're a mug of the highest repute, so I'm wary of taking any more advice.

Chaser, I'm not here for a chat with you, believe it or not.  If you want to ask any questions, do so by PM and I'll gladly ignore you.

Back on track.  PSV were massively unlucky to lose against Atleti in their opening match, but does this really translate into being virtually even money shots away in Russia?  I don't see how it does.  I can't think of a national side that has regressed as much as the Dutch over the past couple of years (before anyone says it, England didn't have too far to fall) and, while PSV aren't a completely Dutch outfit, it's still indicative of the standard of the league.

Can only think that, as Platini says, it's being priced up partly on reputation.  Apart from the likes of Celtic, teams that qualify for this competition generally aren't mugs and Rostov will be realistic enough to know that any chance of qualifying hinges on them picking up points at home.  PSV may well win, but at 2.14 it's a lay.
