Yes stewarty. M H (Peter) Easterby and always ridden by the owner Mr A J Wilson. It won the Gold Cup and was a great favourite of mine. Easterby trained some magnificent jumpers during that period, with Night Nurse being the best.

There was a con in the early 60s pre the bookies when it was postal betting only.
Company opened an office in Edinburgh and took fortunes on the ante-post markets. Went best prices and fecked off with the lot when the first event took place. |

The days of the betting Coup are sadly gone nowadays with all these computers and wall to wall racing on tv. I used to bet the winners in Ireland on a Saturday after my cousin phoned me the result straight from the track.
Indie bookies would put the line to the side and never got the results until Monday in the Sporting Life. Always threw in a couple of losers with them and never got greedy and never got sussed out |

Just checked it won the champion hurdle twice that's probably why it rang a bell as the champion hurdle is probably my favourite race.

I will share a better con than that one night chaps, carried out by my late father believe it or not. It's a long story and as I only type with one finger I will open a nice bottle of Peroni and enjoy as It would take me too long to type.

I can`t remember that aka. I remember they were at loggerheads in the 70s with Banks ridiculing Ladbrokes for refusing bets. He tried to name a horse Greenwich Mean Stein but was refused permission, so called it Adorable Cyril instead.

Brian Curley pulled off one of the biggest gambles ever. He knew his horse was going to win in Ireland and backed it at fancy prices with a load of books. There was only one pnone box at the course and when the bookies reps tried to hedge by phone he employed a man to 'capture' the phone saying his mother was seriously ill in hospital. The horse duly obliged at a fancy price and the on course books were fleeced because they couldn't hedge.

Would have a bet at the track and settle up at the end of the day with the bookies. If having a bad day would tell a bookie he'd lost with they were company bets. One day as he walked away from Banks stand after placing a bet Banks shouted after him. Yours or the companies Cyril. |
