Rashford omitted due to lack of game time for United, but Smalling included despite lack of game time for United.
All the more strange when you consider that Rashford frightens the hell out of opposing players whilst Smalling frightens the hell out of his own players. |

it was the same with oxo got a reputation after a no more than decent 1st half against an out of sorts milan side, milan sorted themselves out at halftime and oxo never got a kick and went missing in the 2nd half and has never been sighted since, think that was 3 years ago

I think that you have to give Big Sam a chance before we start criticising him, we didn't want Roy initially. Lets all get behind him atleast for a few games !!!!!!!
By:
Love to see him do well but fear he is totally out of his depth just like Roy
By:
Big sam and little sam both looked out of their respective depths today on the training ground!!
By:
This squad looks dreadful and you do wonder what we're building towards, but of course this is England and we're never actually building towards anything, just make it up as we go along and hope it comes good at the big tournament which we never play our best team at.
badgerhillbilly • August 30, 2016 10:42 PM BST I think that you have to give Big Sam a chance before we start criticising him, we didn't want Roy initially. Lets all get behind him atleast for a few games !!!!!!! People didn't want Roy and were proven exactly correct? |

couldn't agree more.

Love to see him do well but fear he is totally out of his depth just like Roy How much out of depth would all these top managers have been with that squad at Sunderland? |
By:
It`s not the manager that`s the problem but the available player pool and until there is a change in the structure of English football that `s the way it is.All other nations have a lot more to pick from in their own leagues top division plus players playing abroad. The premier league has too much money for England to reach the very top of world football tbh they do well to do as they do.
By:
Our player pool is 20 or 30 times that of Iceland.
With a good game plan, good organisation, determined players and good discipline and the rub of the green England can reach the semis of the World Cup. |

Its not the player pool either the mentality of the England players is they cannot be bothered after the season has finished.NO PRIDE SIMPLE.

And for planning do you think wales planned to get to the semi final of euro2016 3 or 4 years ago?I don't they worked hard for it and they got it from pure graft. Our players think i'm to tired.
By:
pure gatf and willshire are totally apart let willsire have his nighf clubs pit as he had talent but as with gasgoine history repeating itself
By:
Thought heads would have rolled with his first squad, unfortunately not the case,
think he said in an interview leading up to the game that this was the most difficult game in the group, and he'd "take a draw", I hope he can do well, it's about time someone made a fist of it, but it's not going to inspire the fans naming near enough the same team and playing your chances against Slovakia down. |

AlLARDice..heres the plan.....
I don't care if we lose every game for a year or two... Please come to your senses.... Rooney Gone necking champers on a yacht within hours of our disgraceful demise in Euros. Cahill Gone Smalling Gone Lallana Sorry but gone Walker Gone sexting his urgent need to get out of France to be...well you know.. Jagielka Please Gone Hart Don't get me going Sturridge gone Henderson gone Nucleus of new team... Vardi and Kane Oxlade Rose Dier Sterling...only cos he's still young and may realise haircuts don't make you a better player Alli Can't think of anybody else right now... but Samuel the Nation turns its lonely eyes to you. Btw I remember when Walter Winterbottom was Manager. Please post any exciting young players so I can check them out. Thanks. |
By:
Btw...wish Pep could have been in the loop for Manager...
Already I'm impressed with his view that Hart was not part of his long term strategy. |

I don't think this Slovakian side are as good as Iceland, however they're plenty good enough to see off this England team. Have you seen their home record.
By:
Can't understand why so many here are wetting their beds. This is an away qualifier. Most countries with a new manager would be very happy with a point.
We all know Hodgson was an addled old fool, we saw that at his last press conference. Big Sam will send a confident team out today. Stop your crying and see what he delivers. |
By:
All the best Sam, I hope we win 6-0.
By:
sir alfs first game saw them lose 5-2.
By:
Stones and Sterling. At club level managed by the most innovative coach of this era. With England managed by the 'play the percentages' maestro. Quite contrasting experiences.
By:
If England lose Sam will have the Euros lack of form conformed for those who have forgotten.
I expect a big clear out of the England squad over the first few games. |
By:
anyone interested, england 21/20 with fred.
By:
Vardy not starting a bad sign. He's our one player that any other nation would take.
By:
Agree about Vardy. He is unique in that his first thought is "where is the f***ing goal"
By:
Spain or Germany would never be happy with a point, there lies the difference and sets a bad precedent going forward.

sir alfs first game saw them lose 5-2. Thankfully, no social media then. |

By:
Hodgson's England were the only team to qualify for the 2016 Euros with 100% record. Look where that got us.
The most important thing today is England play solidly and Big Sam goes nuts if the defence shows any frailty. |
By:
hardly the dawn of a new era for English football is it..
oh dear more of the same on the way![]() |
By:
big fat sam with his big fat head and play the percentages style of play
You could have picked a squad from the championship who could outperform this overpaid useless bunch of cr5p |
By:
if they dont win against slovakia who are no better than a pub team he needs to be sacked
![]() |
By:
It is getting to the stage where some England player will get 200 caps and announce that he will retire when he is 65.
By:
lost count of the number of tournaments rooney has bombed out in, we now have the ludicrous situation where rooneys been shoe horned into a midfield role in which theres a full tournament evidence not 3 months ago that he failed miserably in that position,no chance of him improving on that in the next world cup,ali should be giving the chance to see if he can do the job in front of rooney
By:
apparently the FA asked old whiskey nose for advice because as a loyal scot he's bound to have englands best interests at heart
![]() dont think hes stopped laughing since |

Not one player from the top two teams in the Prem from last season , wonder when that last happened

unlucky for leicester players, but theres no-one at arsenal could really pick

1 - 0 to Slovakia on the national anthem front.
