he could still be the manager though

By:
yes, at least then we would know it is time to give up the game.
By:
Yes he's a scrapper.That's what England lack!

Allardyce has a proven track record at organising sides and getting the best out of players. He has a good track record of managing difficult characters.
Sam's record is better than being a scrapper - he has 4 top 8 finishes at Bolton and finished top ten at Blackburn and Westham improving both clubs from where he started. He was won promotion three times. His achievement at Sunderland was superb last season. England in global terms are not an elite team. England are middle of the road. We haven't made the quarter finals in a long time. Since Sven we have struggled in every tournament. England needs a manager who can organise a team and get more from that team than the sum of its parts. Allardyce is described by many as some kind of thick northerner who foams at the mouth but he is far more than that. He learnt a lot from his time in America as a player. The sports science employed at Bolton was light years ahead of other clubs at the time. He was using prozone and statistics well before most. At Bolton he employed mind gurus and motivators when others laughed at the impact they can have. He is undoubtedly the number one English contender to manage the national team. I suspect he will do rather well - he has every where else he has been and will be more suited to managing a group of average players than a superstar continental manager. |

Boris Johnson appointed foreign minister, big Sam probable England manager, this Country,s f**ked!
By:
many of the atguments put forward for sam suggest to
me he deserves a crack at a better club side rather than manage a national team where he has no control over fitness and conditioning. still , if we want an engerlish manager he is the safest candidate, maybe one of the younger lads might be better but they are unproven give him a go, but i cant see it working meanwhile there are dozens of non engerlish managers who would do a better job |
By:
Blimey, I didn't realize that "Big" (always regarded that as patronising rather than the fondness it is supposed to reflect to those "lucky" enough to obtain that particular prefix)Sam was that great, England better move quick before Real, Barca or Bayern snap him up!!
Sam gets the job because he's English and because he's prepared to toe the line as the project is not broken!!! ![]() ![]() Fook me, the F.A. has gone completely doolalee....I thought at least David Gill would provide some measure of sense. When this all goes t1ts up he, perhaps for the first time is going to look like a total numpty. ![]() |

Oh where can England find a manager with the club track record of Chris Colman?
By:
a'la dice
in the style of the dice = big gamble |

By:
We haven't got the players, we haven't got the managers, the foreign league rules all round in this country
By:
It's a nonsense to say we haven't got the players. Any team with half-competent players can be organised to be a decent team. They just need the right man in charge - you can't know in advance who that man is, he just comes along. You can help yourself to some degree, but it's mostly random imo

Ivan Lendl for me
By:
Or that Welsh guy Jones who runs the rugger team. Good thinking captain eff.
By:
well everything else has gone pete tong so why not try a different approach - cant be any worse than has gone b4 - the post 92 footy supporters on here do make me laugh as they are spoon fed their thoughts from a London based/biased media time after time - the same media that tries to pick the team time after time
#deluded but #justsayinglike |
By:
allardyce is far better than hodgson, that we can be certain of
By:
There will be a few football journalists back tracking if he gets it.
By:
The problem with Allardyce is that he likes to play with a very athletic water carrier in midfield. He always goes out and buys one if one is not available already.
The problem with international teams is that you have to work with the players you have. I think he might struggle if that type of player is not available (although the likes of Drinkwater would be his type of player and get his chance - desevedly) |
By:
The press are pure priks. That is all i will say. England will never get a good manager because it will be decided by others who have no clue. If allardyce gets it its the press again for an english manager. He is a pure disaster. Howe or Bilic. Klinsman is the one. But the press wants english. CLOWNS
By:
Listening to the press on various stations about sam pure and utter priks. Serious idiots. If he gets the job english fa are mugs. Hogasarus was bad and he is the same. Just give it to someone who can do the job. SIMPLE.

I imagine he will want to get his legal action against the BBC out of the way. When is it happening by the way?

You could bring Sir Alex out of retirement to put alongside Mourinho and Guardiola and we still wouldn't win a major tournament. The reason being is that the players we produce aren't good enough.
By:
I hope he gets the job....What i dont want to see is some Foreign Manager in charge....No buts he has got to be British.

holywell you speak plenty sense my friend - as does Chris "i cant say pelanty" right Waddle - these academies have stunted the growth of our young players who are 2boxed off" from an early age and any "individual talent they do have is quickly knocked out of em too soon - long gone are the days you cud get a kid from Dunston doing remarkable things wiv a football cos its all just a game of chess these days - sad but true and you can count on one hand how many home grown talents go abroad to make a living and yet flip the coin the other way..... as all these guys come to make a living in "hardest league in the world"
Im old school - could see Linneker was a player when he was at Leicester tearing the arse out of the toon at same sort of age as your youngin is doing now but neva got a kick for England till he went to Spurs - Beardsley neva got a kick for England till Wilkins got sent off and Robson got injured - nowt changes - Wiltshere and Henderson shudnt hav been within a country mile of that midfield this Euros yet they left Drinwater at home and lad from West Ham neva even got a sniff . Its all about ESTABLISHMENT mate just like Cloughy shuda got the gig back in the day ![]() ![]() |

Sakho refuses to go on West Ham's preseason tour. I wonder if the future England boss has had a word in his ear.
The 2 seem to have an unhealthy relationship. I remember Sakho being "too injured" to represent his country at the ACN but made a quick recovery to play for West Ham in the FA cup. |
By:
The relationship between Bilic and Sakho is the one you should concentrate on if you really care.
By:
I don't think Carroll is a top 4 striker.
Sakho and Valencia formed a decent partnership under Sam. Don't think Sakho is blameless but the bias,IMO,in favour of Carroll by super Slav I find strange. Super Slav's reliance and/or trust in Carroll will be his eventual downfall IMO. |
By:
Carroll offers something totally different. His best contributions (apart from the hattrick against Arsenal) came off the bench.
It's called plan B, a concept lost on the previous England manager. The problem the FA will have if they appoint Sam is ticket sales.. |
By:
Play the matches up north. They'll sell out every time {bar St.James' park}. 10 years too late for Allardyce, though still the best man for the job if like me you would insist on an Englishman leading the national team.
By:
The days of defenders filling their pants and running around squealing with their hands in the air as long/diagonal balls rain into the box towards a "big man" are long gone.
By:
Iceland seem to do pretty well with it just 2 weeks ago in the biggest competition in Europe.
By:
Against the English defenders...
By:
In most cases that is true, DIE LINKE. But not in Carroll's - he's a monster, no defenders can handle him.

Don't get this vibe of 'the manager doesn't matter because the players aren't good enough'
Not good enough to do what ? Get past the Last 16 ? Do people think there a dozen countries in Europe with better players than England ? Lets see .... Spain,Germany,France obviously and then erm.... Italy have much better keeper/defenders but what else . Would Spurs Fans have been fine with selling Harry Kane and replacing him with Pelle . Or swapping Dele Ali with Nani. England's natural level should at least be making the Quarters and losing to a strong team with a decent performance , and making the Semis at least 1 tournament in 3 . And with a bit of luck over 7 or 8 tournaments actually making a Final or winning something. Even if you argue there are not 3 , but 5 or 6 nations , who typically have better players overall than England , that still doesn't explain 20 years without a Semi Final . Since Euro 96 TWELVE different European Nations have made the Semi Finals of a World Cup or Euros .Portugal have reached 4 semis in that time despite , IMO , never at any point having a stronger starting 11 than England (arguably in 2000 they did) . England fail again and again because in tournaments they play like the weight of the world is on their shoulders . They have a negative mindset and fear of defeat which becomes self fulfilling . This is always a failure of the manager as it his job to psychologically prepare the team . A manager whose approach is all about defensive drills and maybe nicking a goal with a header from a set piece is not going to transform this negative loser mentality. |
