By:

By:

just oken up, thankfully these guys were good enough to wait for me before the goals started flying in |
By:
i have a feeling this won't make the shootout
By:
just placed my first bet, paddypower argentina to win in ET 4/1
By:
both sides look fked
By:
aguero as caught up with the pace now hopefully they create a chance for him.
By:
99/100 messi makes that pass. that's what pressure can do his touch has been off all night
By:
what were the red cards for?
By:

Pressure all on Argentina in the shootout i'd say. Not won this thing in ages & memories of last years loss in similar fashion.

Penos!
Well played Chile, Messi shut down completely... |
By:
chile value at 2.2
By:
I agree Clacher
By:
no sympathy for the loser here. both teams were happy to let the last 5 mins of extra time ride. i hope their gamble pays off because lot of luck involved with penalties.
By:
Senyatta, you are spot on. Neither side showed the courage to go for the win and not entitled to whinge about losing on penalties

messi

Its not astonishing Messi missing a penalty....missed loads of them
By:
this is great at least we got something out of watching all that.
messi opted for power must have been very nervous. shame as he sent goalie wrong way he could have tapped it home |
By:
Yesssss
By:
messi just cant hit a penalty, hes missed about 25% of all his penalties

Tournament football
![]() Lost to Argentina first game & only beat Bolivia with the dodgiest of penalties in about the 98th minute in the 2nd game. |
By:
whats with all the barriers on the park, they arent in glasgow
![]() |
By:
he was like that all night though. big moments in big games are huge and once again that higuain has cost them. that goes in everyone settles down and they likely win. but messi was off all night simple passes he was getting wrong. the occasion got to them. no sympathy in the end they just lack that killer instinct/ruthlessness. how chile were 2.2 before that shootout was bonkers.
By:
Messi...
![]() Maximum 2018 WC and 2019 CA left, best ever? Not really... |
By:
higuain has been a passenger for years at napoli and argentina, feeding off more talented players, youd only ever back him to score tap ins and he doesnt even do that
By:
Argentina midfield hardly ever ventured out of their own half in the 2nd half & Messi was picking up the ball near the halfway line & trying to beat 5 or 6 red shirts with often no support. Argentina unwilling to push up the pitch. Would of thought that penalties was the last thing they wanted yet they did little about it.

what a shame i slept through it, sounds like a real spectacle.
more pissed of that i slept through the 3-2 portland timbers game |
By:
hate seeing messi dejected like that
![]() |
By:
only had one bet on the mls match and it lost, had portland -1. if i was watchign it in runnign i might have done something else when it was obvious i wasnt going to win.
By:
Houston have picked up since giving Coyle the push. Was 2-2 last time I saw & didn't know there was another goal. Timber Joey had some log cutting to do today with that fightback from Portland
By:
Clacher, you have any cunning plans for Euro 16 games later ??
By:
ive not even thought about them yet.
By:
Cant't believe i didn't trade out of this. Had Argies 8/11 earlier in the comp, had it been anyone but Chille I would have been confident. Should have laid off at 2/5. What an idiot. Serves me right, no major win in 23 years and serial chokers. Lesson learnt.
By:
thats exactly the sort of mls game i wouldve done goals in and i wouldve won, very rarely do games finish 0-1 to the away side in the mls
By:
obviously england and spain should be winning tomorrow but ill bet closer to the KO's
By:
Personally, feel very sorry for the Argies. Messi was fouled time and time again last night. Very little protection from the ref. Vidal should have been sent off too. They have lost 3 recent Copa finals on pens. Messi has lost 3 Copa finals. They lost the WC final late on in extra-time. They have had a glorious generation of footballing talent for over 20 years, going back to Maradona, Caniggia, Batistuta, Redondo… & yet only have the 1993 Copa to show for it and a couple of Olympic golds. I question the coach when he leaves Garay out of his squad & leaves Javier Pastore, a class midfielder, on the bench for the entire Copa. I hope Messi changes his mind about retirement and goes to the WC in Russia in 2 years. England fans think Eng have had bad luck in terms of penalty shoot-out losses in major tournaments. Think Argie fans have more reason to feel hard done by.
By:
half the argentina squad have said theyre packing it now.
messi look completely crushed yesterday, its no surprise. |
By:
Think Messi will eventually change his mind. He wouldn't be the first to be hasty when speaking moments after a disappointment. Think he'll carry on to the next World Cup & there will be a few others who will do the same when they know Messi is staying. If you were being cynical, you could say his talking about retirement has quickly got people talking about something else and not his penalty miss or another Argentina failure.
