Sky put in a big bid but when it went to the 2nd round and they knew BT were going in they pulled out.

I think SS5 "The home of European football" needs a name change. Sky just left with their handful of EPL games now.

Still a sad end to an era. Goodbye Balligue, Revista etc.

Don't know about Sky having 'a handful' of EPL games though. Showing 3 or 4 a week.

Next season will be the first for me without televised football since Sky Sports started showing it, cant say I'll miss it (apart from the odd really big game). As a layer of scores its far less stressful not having to watch donkeys on £80K+ a week blasting over from 6 yards out when you need a goal. Also knocked £60 a month of my Sky bill.

Makes me laugh that the regulators think that by having more choice the prices will come down...

I have three sky boxes and they will go and get the illegal choice for a months payment upfront..

So sky have pulled out of the bidding in protest and have effectively told La Liga that they don't need them Confused

Hopefully as BT have got them on the cheap there wont be any need for any massive price hikes.

Sky have tried to shaft BT into a stupid bid, SKY had LL on the cheap for many years.

SKY will go all out on promoting the EPL, if they not annoyed everyone with it so far.

And what about the golf, Rugby League and majority of prem games still at sky? Now I would have to pay for BOTH to be able to enjoy the sports i watch. Its a cronk of poo

I mean BT have already bumped their prices and at £10 a month, it will be £20 a month soon when they add some womens netball and the odd ufc fight
By:
Ibrahima Sonko
When: 01 Aug 15 20:42
£10 !?!

so you would rather pay £60+ for something you can live without and call the £20 a waste.

I reckon you have to have sky for other reasons.

Yes, this season being now or 2 weeks when it starts. The consumer is losing out no doubt about that. But there is now an option to watch a handful of EPL games, La Liga and Champions League, Europa League at a fraction of the cost if you drop Sky. Of course you'll miss out on the overrated EPL matches but they can be streamed easy enough these days.

Sonko the only person ever to put pen to paper on a tv package Laugh

"contract" LaughLaughLaughLaugh

apparently  a had a rolling contract with them ,the more it rolled the more they stuck it over me ....it was all in the small print and was actually all my fault for not reading it ,whats why it sneakily  doubled in price over a few months Laugh

enough was enough ,fool me once ....fool me twice ,fool me 3 times and that just makes me a fckn idiot Wink

Yes Sky put a bid in with what they thought was a fair price. They were other bidders (BT) so La Liga took it to a second round. But Sky said sod that we ain't interested. So BT got it on the cheap.

The EPL has deteriorated relentlessly for about 10 years now with 8 out of 10 matches boring people to death.

Take the 3 games as follows:
1. Hull v Man Utd
2. Burnley v Spurs
3. Burnley v Man Utd

That would be £33m forked out by Sky next season for 3 matches that had one shot at goal in the 3 matches combined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The EPL pays World Class Wages for mediocre players such as Rooney, Di Maria, Costa, Sterling, Wilshire, Walcott ............ the list is never ending.

The current Sky model will collapse soon as they have paid far too much for what is a pile of poo, lost the Champions League and soon to lose La Liga.

Watching Ajax pass the ball about the half way line does not cut it with customers paying top dollar.

The day will come when there is a stampede of subscribers cancelling and the whole model comes tumbling down along with the big clubs without rich owners.

Hopefully that day is soon to end the obscene wages in the Moneyship.

I dont pay £60 lol .. Regardless the point is you have to pay £10 to get the same access to sports thaat you had before BT came along, add to that skys price increases and your average person now has to pay £15 a month more just to get the same content

By:
Ibrahima Sonko
When: 01 Aug 15 21:17
Only if you are stupid enough or made to keep sky.

I really dont get the point that it is more expensive, its like going to the shop for 1 mars bar but buying 2.

BT new content rises are only just behind SKY's yearly rises.
By:

When: 01 Aug 15 21:25
Ok so once upon time SKY had everything and charged X amount

Then BT came along and everybody said HURRAY!! Great news for your average Joe! Cheaper prices etc..

Now sky costs X+5 and you get far less money
BT charges £10 for the content you no longer get
By:

Dear God.

Sonko Sky used to have all the PL, La Liga and CL.

Now BT has a small number of PL matches, all the CL and now La Liga it seems.

So what you used to pay say £30 a month for on Sky now costs the current Sky subscription plus a BT subscription on top. It's not a difficult concept to understand honestly.

I started with Full Sky Package then RUK then Premier Sports then BT came along. I have gone back to the first two and considering dropping Sky and listening to the football on 5 Live, but it's the cricket and RL that I would miss.

Sonko don't you have Sky Sports? Or how do you get it for nothing?

last season i watched far less football than usual as quite frankly it was boring me to tears...

apart from real madrid v barca, i very rarely watched a spanish game...

the champions league is usually bollox until the last 8, so no real loss there either...

im quite happy with just the prem games on a sunday really...and even some of them i dont bother with...plenty of other things to watch...

i think maybe that over the last 20 years or so, my football watching on tv has reached its own saturation point...
