betfair announces they are working as hard as they can. Minutes go and absolutely nothing happens

Probably two men and the cleaner at Betfair Towers at this time on a Sunday. No doubt working hard means they'll be hoping to get someone away from the dinner table to get it fixed by 10pm at the earliest.

The Betfair Exchange Website is down 1000 times more than any other website I visit.

Yep £5,000 matched on the tennis final currently on. Whereas £550,000 here on Betfair despite the fact it's been suspended for half the match.

Intriguing. Certainly every time the exchange goes down for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, an hour, or however long this will be, it knocks your confidence that little bit more. Every person who has their fingers burnt won't be in a rush to trade again too quickly.

Why don't Bet365 get an exchange set up, they are by far the best site with their video coverage etc...

Why would bet365 want to run an exchange? There's simply no money in running an exchange compared to running a bookmakers. Bet365 are the market leaders. Absolutely no point in them doing something where there's no profit in.

on the old site the open golf still has all the money up, but nobody can bet cos in the last 10 minutes the matched total hasnt shifted a bean.

So there's no money in exchanges? you are right then about them trying to get rid of it...

Looks like that's what Betfair are slowly doing to me.

As I said the other week, you are all being slowly weeded off the exchange and onto the sportsbook, the exchange has reached it's optimum level. People wont have it though.

They had to start Premium Charge to keep it going though.

Fair point but it clearly worked.

Don't know if a new exchange could pop up and immediately have such draconian charging levels. PC worked because players were already tied in.

I tend to agree. Clearly Betfair know the full figures. I get the impression they are using the excellent name and reputation they built up for themselves to grow the sportsbook.

I attempted to place my first bet on there £400 at 1/2 and I was offered £9.

the prices are in general not that great but if u keep an eye out they have the odd mistake and decent value price.

the exchange is probably an inconvenience. they cant shut it down or sell it, cos the new exchange would attract half the customer base away. they dont really want it, but have no real choice but to keep it.

they should sell it but are just being selfish.

Betfair Sportsbook contains crackpot risk averse traders frequently offering the worst prices seen in the betting industry.

No shops, very little Live Video, a hacked off Exchange Customer Base and stiff competition out there.

Bit like a tiddler attempting to bite jaws.

Betfair is nothing without the Exchange liquidity and will be finished when this liquidity finds a new home.

i got offered about £30 on an evens on the sportsbook. its not really aimed at people who bet regularly. just the average joe who puts £5 on england winning the world cup.

i think they keep the exchange so they can use the name betfair for the sportsbook. betfair being synonomous with best prices and person to person betting.

yeah the exchange gives them loads of free publicity. whenever anybody says the name betfair, in relation to the exchange, thats great for them.

if they sold the exchange, they know that the name would obviously have to be changed. then that new named exchange would get all the free publicity associated with it. then even if the new owners werent bookies, theyd soon launch their own sportsbook on the back of the exchange! they cant sell it, itd be suicidal.

yep the name has big brand value.

just had a look at other exchanges, how do they manage to so rubbish?? not just no money, but abysmal design.

they try to have too many markets too, im sure theyd be better off starting with only covering select big events per day. make it easier to find them. do everything possible to attract money in those events, then slowly add more over time. having thousands of markets with tuppence in each one doesnt seem to serve much point.

im not convinced another exchange can ever compete though. the money is where the money is. no point using an exchange that has no money. but without money there, nobody will take their money to the site. its impossible, isnt it?

its the old 'need experience to get a job, but cant get experience until you have a job' thing all over again!

The engineers have fixed the Sportsbook Issues and now working on the Exchange.

Lucky these idiots are not in charge of something important such as paramedics as they would rush past someone suffering a heart attack to treat someone who fell next to them suffering from a minor graze.

Even the Engineers are told the Spudsbook is the priority

Does anybody here use the sportsbook much ? odds can be chronic at times especially on the footy.Limited markets too compared to pps, wh and b365?

I have absolutely no interest in using a conventional bookmaker.

Sportsbook limit winners to very small amounts and prices are much worse than the other Bookmakers

But 95% of the time exchange is supposed to be better than sportsbook.

Very good point made on Twitter by Peter Webb that Betfair prioritised fixing the sportsbook before the exchange where people have an open position. Putting customers first eh?! Tw@s.
