In response to the thread title, the comments don't hold up whatsoever, and are bang out of order. My betting partner and myself have been using Betfair since 2000 and have found it be an unbelievably good innovation, and were only discussing it this morning, before reading this thread, how our betting would be without this site. The answer was unprintable! Every company gets a problem from time to time, whether betting,or anything else, that's life. Virgin have had mast troubles, rendering numerous problems,as have had others. To suggest licence being removed is crazy.Yes,glitches causes a problem,as does any accident, life isn't always a smooth run, more often than not it's a roller coaster of a ride. Be grateful that we have this site, and how useful it is,and what a brilliant idea. And yes,I did buy shares,so am happy to see the company grow.

Fuming, they had a "special" Utd to score more than Chelsea at 5/1,don't know what i,d have got on but thought it was a decent price. Site came back on just after Chelsea KO and special gone, what a shower.

The only problem unbiased is that nearly every customer knew there would be a site meltdown yesterday as it has happened for years. Why don't Betfair sort it out FFS.
Betfair need customers and 99% of customers don't need Betfair. The world survived before Betfair and it will when it has long gone.
People can and are either betting elsewhere or spending their money on other non betting activities.
Until Betfair realise the above then the business will continue to decline month by month.

Lot of anger on here, and false statements, like Betfair "continuing to go downhill."The reality is you could have bought Betfair shares a couple of years ago for under £8,and they are now listed at over £22!!! I have lost count of the number of times I have gone into my bank, and they couldn't do any transactions due to the computers being down.As stated glitches can happen, and systems get overloaded, especially being more vulnerable on big days, that's life. Going overboard and running down the company is totally negative, and achieves nothing. There appears to be plenty of growth on sporting events, much against the claims of the moaners. Yes,life would go on without this site, but going back to ordinary betting would be a massive loss to all.It is not as if problems are self-made,it is something that just happens, and usually doesn't last too long.Have you guys never had a powercut,or a mains trip-out?

the truth is betfair is a very badly run company. what kind of betting exchange charges up to 6.5% commission and is unable to accomodate winning punters and slaps a nonsensical premium charge on them driving them away.

Yomomma,do you know anybody that pays premium charge. If you do you will understand why it is levied on them,if you don't,then should find out why it was brought in. Plus why do you claim that it" is a very badly run company",when you have no grounds to substantiate that, and public confidence is at all time high,as shown by the current share price. How many proper punters do you know of that don't regularly use this site, for either backing or laying,on any sport?

I'm on 21% total charges so don't bet with betfair anymore. I do not understand why I would have to pay it if I fell below 20%, please tell me.
It's a badly run company because they have gone from being a well respected betting exchange to a joke sportsbook. Share prices is bizarre but just shows how clueless the city is.
Finally no serious punters use betfair, why would they. All the big betting is done at Pinnacle and the Asian bookies.

unbiased they cant raise forever with so many £2 punters on here
no one use the sportsbook hardly, most bets you see posted on twitter facebook etc are hills and laddies

The Sportsbook will never be a serious competitor in a saturated bookmaking market and very few Exchange customers will be interested in the Betfair Sportsbook because of the poor value prices and the fact that winners are restricted to pennies.
Betfair needs to go back to growing the Exchange or it will die and all will be left is a 2 bob Sportsbook.

I'm surprised you think people haven't the right to be angry Unbiased,if their money is tied up in markets and they cannot do anything to change their position(which is one of the main reasons people use the site),they lose and another extremely sorry it happened again does nothing for their pockets.

To quote you Unbiased "every company gets a problem from time to time", well this is the next day and here we go again,is it fair on any one to have money tied up in a market and they are unable to do anything about it? Of course it isn't.

The difference with this though is when you are visiting your bank you are not in the process of trying to get your fix!!....we're all going cold turkey that's the reason for the vitriol.

Unbiased - just out of interest, as you're a shareholder - are you not concerned about the terrible impact on revenue with the site performance. Yesterday obviously the worst, but hardly a unique day either.
If days with NOTHING taken happen, plus losing custom so LESS taken, then this surely will impact on the supposed projections for making anything as a shareholder...or maybe they are cashing out??

i hate betfair like most for what they have done to commission. they deserved to be attacked but its not in their control if a person or group of people set up a system to spam their ip adresses to the point its slows everything down
not really site performance though is it.didnt you know that stars also got targetted?i hate betfair like most for what they have done to commission.they deserved to be attacked but its not in their control if a person or group of people set up a sys
Hardly the only time the site gets naffed up though is it!??
Performance is a massive issue regardless of one specific problem - and even these attacks are not unpreventable (ask Google or any decent site).

imo i think soem players should have more than one method and certainly more than one site option. purple has lower commision and is playable on the main markets.
if your stuck on lower markets then you havnt and option.
adapt or die imo

Stu,of course I am concerned, but some things unfortunately are uncontrollable. That is why I suggested a visit to Hammersmith in order to see how strong the organisation is,and to see how professional they are.I would imagine it could happen again,as there are some very malicious characters around. Many of your comments are assumptions, and not facts, like saying they don't care, when ,of course they do.Try to imagine how massive the set up has to be,in order to operate taking the millions of transactions that are placed.

Fair comments, but it hinges on current and future turnover at the end of the day - you know liquidity has dropped, and it will continue that way if problems are not ironed out. How can revenue support this (IMO silly) share price and projections?

In regards Paulie Unitedbiscuits? Not really,a bit blunt but Unbiased thinks it is an odd glitch.People will lose money over these "outages",you don't care, betfair don't care, surely the site should be shut down until it is stable to protect people?

I agree it is flippant to say 'these things happen' while people are losing their cold hard cash - potentially with big personal implications. I was lucky other day and only lost a couple of smaller trades, but could have been a lot more and I'm sure a few did lose decent amounts due to the crash.
Would it be the same if shareholders were losing their own money? Still just a glitch in the system that we have to put up with?
