'Portugal are NOT allowed to play any players that took part in sunday's game vs. Serbia.'
Where is the sauce for this then? |
By:
Yeah where have you got your information from?

It's FIFA rules!
By:
Has to be 3 days before they can play again

Never heard of this before, every day is a school day!

Not sure about being this strong, but will rest plenty from their usual first team, the main players, and when they drop their better players they become fairly bog standard.

By:
It's a 100% reliable source. Right now I'm searching the internet for those rules. Unfortunately with no luck.

POrtugal should win this even with their Z-sqaud!

When they drop Ronaldo alone they struggle to play.

And Portugal 0 Albania 1 in there last few games springs to mind also.

just read that Cape Verde are 38th in the world, fifa-rankings-like, fwiw. no way could they be 38th best nation - no way!!
By:
i'm gonna have an actual look at the 'fifa-ratings' - we always hearing 'bout it, never seen the actuyal list tho' hmmm
By:
A lot of support expected for Cape Verde, as well.
By:
Fifa rankings put them ahead of Scotland and Serbia - they have only lost twice in last 11 matches, so it's not made up.
By:
Big drift on Cape Verde here, from 9s to around 12.
By:
B'gger, apparantly they are playing Ronaldo and fair side.
By:
Apologies, looking at older info. Not certain yet.
By:
just backed 0-1 at 30 - insane price. The Cape Verde players are mostly from the Portuguese top 2 leagues. They have no fear. They are not minnows in this contest.
By:
Yep, if it is lesser Portuguese players they're not dissimilar!
By:
Yet one side is below 1.4 to win...
By:
Only other match Cape Verde have played against Euro opposition since that fateful night in Portugal was against Luxembourg, where they drew 0-0, so... who knows. After what happened last time, surely it's a nap Portugal are 2-0 after ten minutes

Portugal play Cape Verde in a friendly two days after the Serbia match, but Santos explained that the same players will not be used. "On Monday I will announce another squad list with 10 or 11 new players for the Cape Verde game."Fernando Santos has enjoyed a positive start to life as head coach of the Portuguese national side.
The 60-year-old has taken charge of four Euro 2016 qualifiers, all of which have been won - the latest of which came at the weekend against Serbia. On Tuesday, Santos will put his 100% winning record on the line against international minnows Cape Verde at the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota in Estoril. Historically, there is a close connection between the two nations. Back in the 15th century, explorers from Portugal discovered and colonized the uninhabited islands. To this day, the official language on the islands is Portuguese. As for the match, Santos is expected to ring the changes to his starting lineup, one of which will see captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo drop out as he looks to manage a long-standing knee injury. A number of debuts are expected to be handed out, which could see the likes of Lucas Joao, Marafona and Danilo Pereira make their international bows. Meanwhile, the visitors are likely to start with a handful of Portugal-based players, including Estoril midfielder Babanco and Maritimo defender Gege. The two countries have met twice before, with Portugal winning 4-1 in 2006 thanks to a Pauleta hat-trick. Then, in 2010, a 0-0 draw was played out. It was recently announced that the gate receipts from the match will go to a fund for the victims of the Ilha do Fogo volcano eruption in Cape Verde. |

As promised, Portugal National Team coach Fernando Santos named an additional eleven names for the team’s friendly against Cape Verde, to be played on March 31. Because Portugal faces Serbia on March 29 and then faces Cape Verde just two days later, there is not the FIFA-sanctioned three-day rest period between games. For this reason, those who take the field in the Serbia match will not in the Cape Verde match. Because of this, Santos has called up additional players for the Cape Verde match, and his listing is quite unexpected.
Santos announced that he only chose players from the Portuguese league, going on to state that the players playing outside of Portugal were called for the Serbia match. Santos went on to state that U-21 players may be promoted for the Cape Verde clash, which placates some fans who have been clamoring for the inclusions of the likes of Bernardo Silva, Marcos Lopes, and Ivan Cavaleiro in the team. Of the eleven players he called, only three have been capped before, those being Adrien Silva, Pizzi, and Andre Almeida. Though all three have been capped, all are very inexperienced. Here’s the full list: Goalkeepers: Marafona (Moreirense) Defenders: Andre Pinto (Braga), Andre Almeida (Benfica), Tiago Pinto (Rio Ave) Midfielders: Danilo Pereira (Maritimo), Pizzi (Benfica), Andre Andre (Vitoria Guimaraes), Adrien Silva (Sporting) Forwards: Ukra (Rio Ave), Lucas Joao (Nacional), Rui Fonte (Belenenses) |

No Ronaldo for bench then.
Almeida up front - he's managed one goal this entire season, and he's 30. |
By:
I think they need to do a match where the gate receipts go to the victims of that 0-0 in 2010
By:
going to have a punt on +1.5 h/t goals at 2.50

Not a that bad looking Portugal team, Almeida aside.
