Advocaat here at Betfair is trading far too low.  Guessing they'll be quite a few who don't bother reading the rules.  9 games left in the season and he will unlikely see the 10th next season.  Unless the wording of the official statement from SAFC somehow excludes temporary/caretaker/interim/"until the end of the season" there is little hope for backers.

Apparently a journo talked to him tonight and he confirmed he will take the job for the rest of the season and then very likely retire.
Report El-Geordio March 17, 2015 12:55 AM GMT
Harangi is spot on, appointment is only going to be till end of season.......9 games left.

Ellis Short wants a longer term manager in place and Advocaat is too old for that role.

Can't believe how low he traded last night, can never underestimate the level of stupidity out there.  Of course I guess I was stupid to lay at 1.50 when it later fell to comical levels.

Even now unsure why there's an appetite to back sub 3's, not sure if this more dumb money or legitimate belief he will be in charge next season.  All the reports suggest he is not the club's long term candidate and a handful of other names are given as targets.  Sure I suppose there's a chance if he does well sentiment shifts in his favor and the club may change their mind.  But as of this moment we don't even know if Advocaat wants a longer stay, it could be a total non-runner.
Report Crisp77 March 17, 2015 1:01 PM GMT

Report Roker_Park March 17, 2015 1:07 PM GMT

As Horangi said, the stupidity of people never fails to amaze you, there is zero chance whatsoever of Advocaat been here next season, whether we stay up or not.
Report mesmerised March 17, 2015 1:08 PM GMT
he's 67, he can't be long term. He will recommend his Dutch pal Jol.
Report Horangi. March 17, 2015 1:28 PM GMT
Sun reported just over a month ago a sounding out of Clement for next season, as you say local paper now suggesting he's at the top of the list.  Makes sense given the head coach role they want and his probable connection to the current DOF.  Got some money in the 20's on the man and will probably try to add more at what appears to be a decent price.

Allardyce name also popping up and at first thought dismissed it but I suppose he's a steady hand and will be free in the summer.  He'll probably want it although he doesn't really fit the head coach role.  McClaren is touted as the number one target by the lone voice of the Guardian but get the feeling from following the Newcastle manager market he is almost nailed on to move there, if anywhere.
Report Roker_Park March 17, 2015 1:40 PM GMT
Clement and Congerton our DOF are mates, they worked at Chelsea together and if we stop up I expect him to be appointed.

People next to remember we are not looking for a "manager", we are looking for a "head coach". Forget about the likes of Allardyce, he simply won't be appointed as long as Congerton is there.

Report Darlo Bantam March 17, 2015 10:32 PM GMT
Looks like free money. All the free money was presumably yesterday afternoon/last night and heavy odds on.

On the flip side, were he to win all nine he'd be heavy favourite to keep it. And secondly he'd only need one more league match to complete the 10 fixtures - would a theoretical relegation play-off count as a league match were they to tie for 17th/18th position too? Last bit clearly far out, but certainly not impossible.

Dutch journo who spoke with Advocaat yesterday claims Advocaat said he will only be at Sunderland for the rest of the season.  Goes on to bring up the point his wife isn't too keen continuing to accommodate his football exploits away from home.  Despite the admission from Advocaat he will not continue the journo does go on to guess at best a 10-20% chance he'll continue (assumes he'll avoid the drop).

Can listen to it here;

1:13:42 is where the question is asked to the journo if Advocaat would take it on permanently.

Sending mixed signals.  Who knows what the clubs plans are.

But if Advocaat achieves his aim of keeping Sunderland in the top flight, then he says he would consider a longer stay.
The 67-year-old is yet to hold his opening press conference as Sunderland head coach, but he has spoken to the Dutch press.
“I’ve heard and read the reports that they are already looking for a younger trainer,” said Advocaat.
“At the moment, I’m only here for two months.
“But, in principle, yes (he’d be interested).

At the end of the day Betfair needed to sort it out, customers will leave if they feel they've been hard done (whether right or wrong).  With only 9 games to go and their standard 10 game rule in effect they should've brought out the note from the get go.  Pretty obvious where it was headed especially as a short term (potential anyways) manager was being reported.

Be nice of Betfair if they loaded up some more manager markets.  Newcastle and West Ham surely will bring in new men.
