So inconsistent, that maybe exciting for some, but for an outsider looking in they are so poor. Chelsea will win the league by 10pts+. from Man City........ another 10pts back to the third.

Man city and Chelsea are light years ahead of the rest.

Man utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton are a complete joke. Lacking in quality.
Report lurka December 8, 2014 10:09 PM GMT
Chelsea are well ahead. Man City not. Don't rate the manager (but he's better than Wenger). The last 3 champions of England have been shíte imo. City lost the title twice and had it handed back to them on a silver platter twice. Man U weak champions in between, Chelsea the worst ever CL winners in between. Chelsea can win CL this year tho imo if Costa can stay fit

i'm an arsenal fan but i think alexis is class, not a cast-off. It is very hard for any attacker to go to barca and play second fiddle to messi. Ibrahimovic lasted a year. Eto left too. See how suarez works out

When you see that complete shambles of a side sitting third in the table when they've probably only played well in 2-3 games all season, then you know it's bad. Chelsea and City are miles ahead of the rest.
Report lurka December 8, 2014 10:56 PM GMT
for me you have to judge against other teams in Europe. City are not at the same level as Chelseaand that's got a lot to do with mourinho but they are still in it and you never know. A lot can happen between now and feb (assuming city make it)

They struggle to find enough highlights to fill in match of the day, so they spend most of the time discussing referee decisions as the matches are so boring. Take Chelsea out of the league and it's the worst egnlish top flight I can remember.

^The Italian league is also pish though. The Spanish and German league are ahead of the English league. Just look at the overall results in CL:

Spain P24 W17 D2 L5 = 53 pts
Germany P24 W14 D4 L6 = 46 pts
England P24 W11 D7 L6 = 40 pts

A fair reflection of where the leagues are at right now.

Rubbish.  You can use any random stats to prove your point.  Wouldn't it be more accurate to compare how the teams have played against each other?  In that case, English clubs are better than German.  And who are currently 2nd in Germany?  And how have they got on against English opposition?  Take out Bayern (and possibly a full strength Dortmund) and German League football is mediocre.
Report JC1326 December 10, 2014 10:13 PM GMT
Full strength Dortmund is mediocre. Full of players like Kagawa who couldn't cut it in a proper league, and a feeder club for Bayern, nothing more.

Only top sides are the two Spanish, Bayern, the PL teams and maybe PSG (knocked out by Chelsea last season). The reason the PL teams have it tougher in europe is because they play in the most important league every week. Bayern had their league won in August, Spain is a joke, as we know. If we cut down on the stupid amounts of games we make our teams play we'd rule Europe, and have the best league too
Report n88uk December 10, 2014 10:18 PM GMT
There are people who actually believe the Premier League teams have it in tougher in Europe because their league is tougher stuff?

Why did the Premier League teams not struggling in the CL in the mid-2000s then. Come on this is nonsense, they struggle because they're not as good as they should be and are lagging behind European's elite right now.

a few observations

EPL not great this season but it seems that most of the top teams other than Chelsea have had plenty of injuries - it's not an excuse its a fact, Arsenal, City, Liverpool, United, Everton

Bayern, Barca, Real, PSG can cruise through league games eg Real are 1/5 to win away tonight - cruising through games means that you get fewer injuries as the game is normally won by half time, and you are more likely to be 100% fit for European games

If Chelsea were to get a few injuries to key players, Matic, Costa, Fabregas, Hazard (like City being without Kompany, Silva, Aguero and Toure) then they will not walk the league - the EPL is too competitive for that - Chelsea are 8/15 for the league so it doesn't sound like it is home and hosed yet

Despite all of that we still have 3 teams in the last 16 of champions league and 2 teams through into the last 32 of Europa despite Spurs rarely playing any 1st teamers and Everton beating the 2nd place team in Germany home and away and topping the group with a game to spare
Report dlarssonf December 12, 2014 3:59 PM GMT
did you think the epl was good last year toffee?????
Report toffee87 December 12, 2014 6:11 PM GMT
I thought it was very competitive -  I cant stand Liverpool but it would have been interesting to see their team of last season competing in this season's champions league

You cant underestimate the effects a 38 game competitive league has on a team - I doubt Real, Barca, PSG and Bayern have to get a sweat on for more than 10 league games a season and tellingly they don't suffer too many injuries because of it
Report dlarssonf December 12, 2014 6:40 PM GMT
I didn't ask you whether it was competitive in fairness???  You point about the spanish league is a smokescreen I'm afraid.  The standard of the premiership week in week out is in the most part diabolical. Lump ball hoof ball doesn't cause much sweat either, its just an s hit over hyped league, but sky and Jamie Redknapp and the gang tell you different so it must be true.

Ans as far as competitive goes only two teams are winning the premier league this year and that was known before a ball was even kicked.

I'm presume you dutched Chelsea and City then at a tasty 1/2, both sides were 2/1 so not as a complete formality as you make out. Or did you lay Arsenal at 6/1 or United at 5/1. La liga was 20/1 bar Real and Barca and 200/1 the top 3

Anyhow I cant say I've ever listened to sky and certainly not listened to Jamie Redknapp - I'm quite happy to make my own judgements and certainly last season Everton and Liverpool played some of the most entertaining football around - injuries have affected both teams quite badly so far this season.
As for hoof ball, I'm not too sure who you are referring too
Report dlarssonf December 12, 2014 7:00 PM GMT
My betting has nothing really to do with the standard of football in England.  Everton played some nice football at times last season in particular Ross Barkley , Liverpool were Suarez basically.  And I'm referring to most of the EPL, it's a snoozefest
