Ok i am going to get replies saying you do whatever you have to do to ensure you win and i can accept that but his antics during last nights penalty shoot out where a disgrace. He was going on like a schoolyard bully, i guarantee he would not have gone on that way have it been Zidane stepping up or someone like Duncan Ferguson. Then why the referee allowed him to continue with these antics throughout the whole shootout is a joke, then much better for FIFA to have Holland in the semi finals rather than Costa Rica (Argentina v Costa Rica hardly has the glamour of Argentina v Holland).
His antics left a real sour taste here and i am praying they get what is coming to them, i can't decide whether i would like Argentina to do them or maybe it would hurt them more if the Germans done them in the final, either way i now have an interest in the rest of the comp and it is praying that prick does not get a winners medal.

Clearly it would be worse for the Dutch if the lost to their age old foes Germany. People who think England-Germany is any kind of rivalry have no idea.

agree with that, thought their pens where excellent
All three penalty shoot outs so far have been excellent penalty taking. But Dutch right up there, especially given their record in previous shoot outs.

i know they didn't look great last night but with Robben flying around with seemingly boundless reserves of energy & continually posing threats i just have a feeling they're gonna see off messi & his boys & what's more i just can't see germany not beating brazil

football, or should I say professional football, as a sport needs to decide whether or not it wants to define and enforce a set of boundaries on acceptable behaviour on the pitch
if not then it risks becoming increasingly ridiculed and alienating viewers

i totally agree.
sadly football has become in my opinion a masterclass in cheating techniques,embued by a hopelessly outdated officiating structure.

unfortunately,altho' laudable sentiments echoed by many,just can't ever see it happening in reality
agreed, i thought it was embarrassing and cringeworthy. i am sure many dutch fans were embarrassed by his behaviour. this is the world cup, the whole world is watching, show some class for goodness sake.
sort of takes the gloss off van gaals tactical change for me, originally it looks like Kruls coming on as the better penalty saver but maybe it was because he's better at the sledging, of course plenty will applaud that like they did the bullying tactics against spain 4 years ago when they knew howard webb was weak, but it wont get the neutrals support

and if you compare videos from even 2011 to today (there is a Grand Prix on today) you can see the players have changed their behaviour, they have had to because if not they would be getting DQ every match

Good points judorick. I thought Krul was totally out of order and expected the referee to do something. It is one thing trying to put the penalty taker off by shouting and pointing while on the line but not to walk up to the spot and do it. If I was the taker and Krul did that to me I would have waited until he walked back to his line and then followed him and done something similar at close quarters.

wasnt the point i or anyone else on here was making, but as it happens brazil have always pleased the neutral and won 5 world cups - more than any other country, doesnt exactly fit your theory of "very rarely win"

should have been a yellow card for unsporting conduct the first time he did it (preferably awarded after the penalty was taken so as not to increase the pressure on the taker) and another one the second.
of course the scope for such behaviour could be eliminated if the refs blew as soon as the ball is placed and gave a retake if the 'keeper wasn't on his line when the penalty was taken.

the majority of football supporters want success for their team & do not care how its achieved - all the rhetoric about wanting fair play is merely that as laudable as it might be as an objective

You are right Cheltenham, unsporting behavior is now the norm
Quite simply,the total focus,and concentration required by the pen. takers was broken,and not just the once.I have never seen that sort of behaviour before,and hope to never see it again.Once the concentration is broken,and the pen. taker stops looking into the goal,then, as proved many times before,the chances are it will be missed.

Sledging is common in a lot of sports it's just that it isn't usually so visible.
Personally I loved what Krul done all about getting a mental edge. As for the fear of Van Gaal the man sat there like a cardboard cut out for 105 minutes before realising a change should be made. Fearing him at the moment? Chuck in Kuyt at wing back as well, I'm not

I just wish Krul showed as much passion when playing for Newcastle, 2/20 penalty saves. He's over rated, no issue for me if he leaves Newcastle close season.
surely a yellow card after his first infringement would have stopped any further antics as him getting sent off would have meant a dutch outfield player having to go in goal for the remainder of the shootout.

that was the result of both teams going in too hard in tackles which happens all the time. costa rica did nothing wrong in their game and this sort of thing doesn't happen as often

It was also the result of weak refereeing, as directed by FIFA, which led to both sets of players knowing they could get away with more fouls without being booked.
Should be a sending off offence to go within 10 metres of penalty taker pre-kick or to say anything to him !
I can remember the same debate years ago when Grobellar done his spaghetti legs
