There's no way Lambert is worth £9million. Liverpool normally pay double that.

Very shrewd signing imo.  Liverpool need decent quality back up with all their fixtures next year.  He's a lifelong fan.  If they get 3 good years at that price than he's a steal.  No point blowing £25m on a striker who won't get a game and will cause trouble.

4m for an international striker who will provide decent back up and also qualifies as homegrown in the champions league squad listings is hardly bad business.

Liverpool in 4 comps next season. A decent quality striker for 4m whose wages won't be that high is a no brainer really

Liverpool basically had no one if Sturridge got injured or to change a game from the bench, now they've got one of the more productive strikers in the league for a few mill. Looks like a bargain to me, a long term one nope but if he helps them get in the CL again it's all good for them. I bet Southampton dont end up with better even if they spend 15m so I'm surprised they've sold him but perhaps given his age they felt they couldnt deny him the move so relucantly accepted.

I'll feel a lot more confident seeing him come off the bench than Aspas, that's for sure.

Teams will sit a lot deeper against us next season, so there's no way we'll score a hundred plus league goals again. Lambert should give us an alternative point of attack, if & when the need arises.

you hope they sit off you mean , teams score for fun against yous so they might come at you even more unless the defence is stronger

£4 doesn't even buy you a decent Championship striker , if he's fit and able (Froch is 36) then age playing up front shouldn't be too much of a barrier, like has been posted , Liverpool will be stretched thin as it is next season , having the luxury of Lambert in your squad is very good business.

£4m is superb value.  The real questions about this transfer need to be asked of Southampton not Liverpool.

We could be here all night if we names duffers who cost more, but I'll throw Maiga, Altidore, van Wolfswinkel and Soldado into the mix.

Probably a bad deal for both teams.  Lambert is a durable, mid table striker and ideal for a team like Southampton who don't have the resources to have lots of alternatives in the squad. I think you get the best out of him when he plays every week rather than asking him for 10 minutes here and there in between the odd cup game. At Liverpool his best strengths are negated while at Southampton it's just going to mean every player is going to be talking to their agent about getting a move

Stupid price for a 27 year old with 1 season in the top flight. Can buy established top class players for that money. If BR gets it wrong he will get a lot of flak for this signing. Really don't see what he offers that we haven't got. We need a midfield enforcer, have enough creative players.

Its really difficult to say until we see what manager we get, who's leaving, for how much money and who we get as a replacement.

I'm not hugely fussed about Lambert leaving, he scored 13 goal last season in the Premiership but when you consider that includes 3 penalties, 2 free kicks, and the complete fluke against Swansea you're down to 7. Factor in goals from set peices and you see that the number of real 'striker's goals' he was scoring has dropped considerably, although i'll admit he did finish the season strongly.

Either way I think he's probably past his best. Not a terrible deal for us.

Not sure what happens next, but lets be honest you are at a selling peak ?

lambert is an old fshioned centre forward like fowler and should score lots of goals at liverpool if played. 

if sturridge flukes a goal in the world cup he will revert to his chelsea persona of thinking he's too good to pass the ball to anybody else and just want to score all the goals himself.

I expect even a hopeless tactician like rodgers will quickly realise that lambert is much better for the team than sturridge.
