Ronaldo plays no part in first 3 goals, goes down easy (again) for a meaningless pen, then acts like he'd just won the match single handed. Grade A egotistical ****er.

Somebody said earlier in this thread that Atletico Madrid are the "peoples team". I for one wouldn't watch them if they were playing in my back garden! They are horrible to watch and have taken football back to the boring 1970's when Leeds used to dominate. I hope Simeone gets a long term ban for his antics during extra time. In some ways Real Madrid were lucky because Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema didn't turn up during normal time but I am glad positive football won out in the end.

By:
Why Betfair pay Real Madrid win bet as a loss on the Exchange market. I checked the rules on the page and it says extra time and penalties included. I got on the chat and the bet is supposed to be settled but nothing in my account yet. Only a small bet but a win is a win.

di Maria was fantastic last night. He was a thorn in Atletico's side for the whole game, and was almost single-handedly responsible for wearing Atletico down. Atletico were a bit unlucky to get within 2 mts of winning but I think Real Madrid deserved it because they were the only team trying to play football. Anti-football cant be allowed to flourish.
By:
anti football is v harsh on a limited side whove done so well, didnt see that agin chels and i didnt see it last night, unlucky not to last out against a real m team who probs deserved it,thank fck it wasnt chels we were watching
By:
I'm just calling it as I see it rommel. In my opinion there was only one team trying to play football last night and they won. I know Atletico have limited resources, but the man in your picture had that at Aberdeen and still managed to play entertaining attacking football beating the likes of Real Madrid in the process. Other managers have done likewise on a limited budget.
I don't like Atletico's brand of football. I find it pretty much unwatchable and I don't want to endure it again. |
By:
Harsh on Atletico, most of their players re youth / frees/ loans / cheap purchases, Real's team cost 10x as much, if they were to have gone out all guns blazing they would have been battered in normal time, instead they gave themselves a chance
By:
am gave it a good go-as the game went on they just came back and were hemmed in,no bus parking involved
By:
Pressing high up the pitch can be just as negative as parking the bus. Their pressing game stops the other side playing football. To me that is the definition of "anti-football"
By:
Football is supposed to be an entertainment like films for example, would you turn up and pay your hard earned once or twice a week to watch a boring film? I bet you wouldn't.
By:
another example of how professional fouling needs to be addressed, a yellow card/free kick hardly compensates the attacking team, commentators condoning it doesnt help either, "he knew what he was doing" "he's taken one for the team" "clever defending", its only clever because the sanctions are not sufficient, thankfully it didnt cost RM
By:
high lander you must be having a bubble, you can't compare a scripted film to sport, Atletico are no Stoke, they don't lump balls forward at every opportunity, you're talking about a team whose wage bill is the same as Fulham's playing a team with the two most expensive players in history. If they had the same budget they would have better player able to compete with the same style, Simone is a shrewd coach who'd be dangerous with money
By:
They didnt park the bus atall last night tbh and i hate them theres nothing wrong with pressing high up ffs
By:
Atletico have won the Europa league, UEFA Super cup, Copa del Rey and la liga in the space of 3 seasons. And all that whilst losing a top player every season. You don't win all that by parking the bus.
By:
Biscuit, I don't think anyone is saying Atletico parked the bus, they are complaining about their negative style of football. They press high up the pitch, so it is not about parking buses. However, their style is still negative. They go out to deliberately stop their opponents from playing and that is negative tactics.
People want to be entertained by beautiful football, they don't want to watch dire negative football. I admire what they have achieved on a limited budget but other managers have created winning sides with less money and played attacking football. |
By:
Football is about different styles and playing to your team strengths & the players individual abilities - in a perfect world every team would be far more expansive but you can watch & be enthralled by a game with 2 completely opposing styles - enjoy it for what it is
By:
Geordie if only that had been the case, the first hour was terrible to watch. The game only came to life when Real Madrid started to get some attacking moves together in the last 20 mts, and that only happened because atletico were tiring. Extra time was worth watching when we finally got some entertaining football, it all came from RM.
I don't mind Catenaccio so much, at least that way one team is playing football and the counter attacks by the defending team can also be exciting. Atletico's style is much worse than Catenaccio, it stops play from happening at all. It strangles the game. It kills football. It was terrible to watch. Truly awful! |
