Nice to see the recent FFP fine restricting PSG in the transfer market.

Chelsea must be absolutely pissing themselves here. Many probably won't agree but i do think Luiz is a quality player, but 50m! That is ridiculous. Chelsea can take that and buy 2-3 top quality players.

It reminds me of that old cheat on championship manager where you used to be able to enter in stupid bids for your players so you had ridiculous amounts of money to spend.

Either way, 40m or 50m, Chelsea are laughing. He's not even a first choice regular.

50m euros

Do they think he is David Silva ?
Report neill d May 23, 2014 2:58 PM BST
Class act, worth the money in today's market in a team that plays football with midfielders who will actually show for the ball when he comes out with it.  Him and Cahill could work great together when Terry finishes, I'm not sure they'll sell him, at least not till after the World Cup where he will go very well. Always looks an even better player with Brazil anyway.
Report unbiased May 23, 2014 3:31 PM BST
It is strange that those that want to knock his abilities know more than the top European clubs. He is an automatic choice for Brazil, and is highly thought of by many clubs. The fact that he wasn't always an automatic choice for Jose, was a big mistake,as he brings much to the game.A point not missed by most top managers.Good tackler, great vision for long-range passes, good in the air, takes a mean free kick, and is fast tracking back. His ideal position is where used by his club,in front of the back 4.Still improving too!
Report wallis May 23, 2014 3:33 PM BST
but 50 million for a guy who cant defend and goes awol more times than an open prison inmate ??
Report unbiased May 23, 2014 3:42 PM BST
Wallis, perhaps you need reminding how many times he got MofM last season. His game has improved tremendously.Ridiculous to say he can't defend.
Report maas May 23, 2014 3:50 PM BST
i think he;s a great player and with his skills more suited to the game in europe where defenders are more involved in the play. He can defend but he;s got much more to his game than just being a defender like Cahill.

I dont know about the price, I think Chelsea have done great business getting rid of Mata and Luiz for combined 80million?

To get rid of 2 players who are surplus to requirements, that you dont even play for you, above market value is pretty damn good.

Some people do just listen to Neville dont they LaughLaughLaughLaugh Such a great player himself. He never got over the fact Luiz kicked bald Wayne

"Wallis, perhaps you need reminding how many times he got MofM last season."

I bet it wasnt as many times as he was caught ball watching and out of position.

A good player but anyone paying 50 mill for him needs a check up from the neck up.

Find one football fan in the world who thinks that their club paying 50 mill for Luiz is a good idea.

No more than any other player really he had a bad 6 week spell under AVB then Neville went mad and everyone followed. Funny that Neville never mentions Rafael as a "playstation player" each to their own
Report unbiased May 23, 2014 4:42 PM BST
That was it sj,if a pundit says it ,then it has to be correct.Only thing is he was wrong, and everyone followed suit, and that tag stuck.Shows how little football they actually watch!
Regarding getting caught out of position,if only Glen Johnson could track back as fast as David Luiz.As for Rafael, enough said.

PSG hit with a huge FFP fine and have their CL squad reduced one week. Then the next week they splash out a world record fee for a defender
Report Panther65 May 23, 2014 8:00 PM BST
ffp is a stupid rule in any case...

i think it would be funny if psg played man city in the champions league final,,,,with already reduced squads, throw in some injuries and suspensions, and both teams might have only 3 or 4 on the bench Laugh
Report songsforthedeaf May 23, 2014 9:33 PM BST
Seems like Mourinho is building his very particular version of a squad...no flair/unpredictable players that might accidentally leave position for a few seconds and score a goal.

Is this a done deal or did PSG sober up ?
Report metaphor May 29, 2014 4:40 PM BST
he's not worth the money but he is a world famous player they can get and that's why they are paying wildly over the odds for him. they have money to burn but are probably struggling to get the really top class players to go there, because it's a weaker league and it's less prestigious than the top leagues... spain and england and bayern munich

Don't forget that they are also supposed to have a limited transfer market options;

PSG agrees to significantly limit spending in the transfer market for seasons 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. PSG further accepts a calculated limitation on the number of new registrations it may include within their “A” List for the purposes of participation in UEFA competitions. This calculation is based on the clubs net transfer position in each respective registration period covered by this agreement.

With all the other players they are linked to, I can't see them sticking to the imposed sanctions - either Uefa will change / reduce them or PSG and then other clubs will just ignore it.
