City have one decent defender, Kompany. Stones is £50m down the drain.

Pep said in his ramblings that he is not the coach for the tackle. I wouldn't put money on City lifting the title and at 1.22 I'd be very wary about putting money on them finishing in the top 4.

But I guess at the end of the day no one give a flying fcuk where City finish in the league. They were once a great club now they are just an Arab's plaything. A couple of riots away from being the next Leeds United.

A few other coaches have remarked on Guardiola's comments regarding tackling :

Walter Mazzarri - "I don't coach on tackling either". “You don’t train a player to tackle – this is something that comes naturally to players in a defensive phase. “I’ve never taught players to tackle because the only thing that matters is that it’s done within the rules of the game and you go for the ball.”

Tony Pulis - "“I understand where he's coming from. He's a possession manager, a person that thrives on possession, and that's massive for him.

“He would concentrate more on controlling the ball and wanting to be the dominant team in possession more than anything else.

“Most probably it's been taken out of context in that respect.”

Mark Hughes - ""Most managers don't coach tackles," Hughes insisted. "At the level we're talking about that is a fundamental skill that they should have anyway"

Maybe some more will come out with an opinion, but either way I'm sure Guardiola knows what he is doing.

Forgot about the fistycuffs with Chelsea, the FA fine, the return of Yaya and his drink driving ban.

Incredible that a club that aspires to be European Champions hasn't got 2 supporters on this forum.

If tackling is a fundamental skill of a defender why can't John Stones tackle?

Of course a well organised good defence rarely has to tackle. Pity City do not have one.

Report themover December 14, 2016 9:31 PM GMT
1p, we have been over this what seems a hundred times. If Man City/Guardiola wanted a tackler they would not have bought John Stones. That doesn't mean he can't tackle it just means it's not what he's best at. What he is good at is possession and pass accuracy. Some stats season to date :

Chances created 2
Average pass accuracy 91%
Average pass length 19 metres
Average defensive actions 7
Average duels won 62%
Total defensive errors 2

"Of course a well organised good defence rarely has to tackle"

That is exactly what Guardiola is coaching, not tackling

Really? The defence didn't look too organised against Leicester. Have you got any fancy figures on how often Stone's fellow defenders were caught out of position in that game?
Report themover December 15, 2016 10:25 PM GMT
Sorry I don't have those figures. Guardiola will have them though.

The 3-4-3 formation was the mistake against Leicester imho. Guardiola had only employed it once before (the 1-1 draw v Everton, which City dominated and should have won). He likes trying to match formations against the opposition, and needless to say it hasn't been paying off lately! Since October he's been playing with 3 at the back which, accepting that will take defenders time to adjust to, hasn't worked as yet...in fact City have not won a single match when they have played 3 at the back (6 matches)...hey presto back to 4 at that back against Watford and a clean sheet and a win! In Europe he's tended to go with a 4-1-4-1 (including the home win v Barcelona) but has rarely used it, as yet, in the league. City have won all their matches when they've played a 4-3-3 (including the win at United) but he's only played it 3 times. Please a 4-3-3 v Arsenal on Sunday! Grin
Report OnePercenter December 16, 2016 9:22 AM GMT
The win at OT was down to a very poor decision by the Ref not to red card Bravo for his flying two footed challenge on Rooney. United would probably have gone on to win that game.

Funny that United are having a nightmare season but with a semi competent Ref that day we would be on the same points as City under their messiah.

If I was a city fan (Scared) then one crumb of comfort from this current shambles is that Utd fans are still close to tears by the derby game from several months ago.

There can be no disputing that Pep was brought in to take last year's Champions League semifinalists to the next level.

Has this season been a success?

What do City fans think of the FA cup now?

Given they only lost 0-1 on aggregate to Real Madrid last season has the recruitment of Stones & Bravo been good for City's defence?
Report themover March 16, 2017 2:44 PM GMT
No, because not going to win the Champions League and unlikely to win the Premier League

Probably the same as always thought of the FA Cup

Not for this season

Jose has won two out of the 5 pieces of silverware open to us this season and we might even pick up a 3rd. That is a spectacular result. Can't wait for next season.

Looks like City have agreed to sell Aaron Mooy to Huddersfield for £10m. Good business for everyone I would suggest.

And the tax on the sale of the player? And the cost of running Melbourne FC?
Many clubs make money by developing players. City aren't one of those clubs however much you wish they were.
Of course the other way to for a club to earn a crust is prize money.

I see CITEH been linked to / going in for Kyle Walker (Spurs)
and Alexsi Sanchez (Arsenal), any thoughts?
I 'd be happy if they didn't get either, the former in particular!
and tbh i'm surprised they are being linked.
Report mcfc1981 June 26, 2017 7:53 PM BST
talk is Sanchez, Walker, Bertand, Mendy, Alves and mystery centre back.......maybe Boateng
Report zipperdidoda June 27, 2017 3:47 PM BST
i think if they get sanchez, that will be SERGIO out.
and i just don't rate Walker(didn't spurs drop him )
Alves, Mendy, will be good.
and if Vincent stays fit , i don't think they need another centre half.
lets see what happens.

Why would Sergio leave? He's got two years left on his contract and Guardiola, Aguero and his agent have all said he will be at City next season.

also i think pep thinks he's a lazy ****. that's why.

wouldn't be the biggest surprise if Sergio was sold imo.

At least they commented "There is a really terrible rumour currently floating around the world of transfer chat - a potential swap deal of Alexis Sanchez for Sergio Aguero. However, what makes absolutely no sense is the Aguero to Arsenal aspect. Why on earth would he, at 29, want to swap a place with next season's Premier League favourites, where he is adored and certainly well remunerated, for Europa League football?"

Seems like they know it's a made up story but thought they'd fill some pages with it anyway Laugh

The FIFA investigation is over though with a small fine for signing players under 18 prior to December 2016 when FIFA issue a guidance explaining their rules Laugh The media haven't discussed it much as it didn't match all their original reports that City would get a transfer ban becuase Chelsea did.
