No! They have to give him some time and some money to spend. United desperately need to buy 5 top class players imo.

They are quite a poor side these days and they punched well above their weight under Fergie for the past 2 seasons.

That must make Ferguson the most sensational manager in football history then, high_lander.  They're utter tripe now, and that's after adding Januzaj, Mata, plus spending £27M on another midfielder - that's potentially three top-class midfielders added!   Just how poor must that squad have been that Fergie engineered to an 11pt romp in the Prem (despite the players having given up on playing for the final two months), and an almost-victory over Real Madrid.

Maybe they were flattered by Fergie, but there's no way this limp lifeless predictable lightweight tosh would be served up by those players if they had a good manager presiding over them.  Given the list of managers that would have come in the summer, Moyes has turned out to be a quite atrocious choice.  And the club's continued backing of him over the last few weeks beggars belief.

You're right, Fergie was sensational at getting the best out of fairly mediocre players. God only knows how they won the title last season with that squad. I am serious I do not understand how they finished above Man City, who are a much better side than United. It was a very weird season.

What you see now is the true level of this team. Look at the players and compare them with Bayern Munich, Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona. There are only 2 players (RVP and Mata) who would get into those other teams.

The Man City players are very very hard to motivate. That's essentially why they were so poor last year, and why they remain enigmatic this season.

My main point is that Man U could have gone for a proven quality manager in the summer. Plenty of reports suggest Mourinho would have been up for it. At the very least, he would have had the players playing as a team. That's why Fergie was so successful. Man U have been phenomenally successful for many years, but it's rarely been because they have a whole team full of the very best players. Each year there have been two or three big names (just as there are this year), but the majority have been decent but not great. Yet, with a good manager, they've been moulded into a top side. It's not just about loading the team with stars. That's what Man City fans etc. don't understand.

If Mourinho was available, he should always have been the first choice, since he could have knitted them together into a cohesive unit. Klopp or Conte would have had some merit too. Under the circumstances, Moyes was a very poor choice, and that became apparent almost immediately. He should have been dispensed with two months ago, even if that meant persuading Fergie to step back in for six months. That way, the team would have had a big lift in form and a decent chance of getting fourth and securing Champs League football for next season - crucial if a 'rebuilding' job or new permananet manager is needed.

OK he hasnt won any trophies but he did get Everton to 4th one year - a tremendous achievement - even Jose doesnt have that on his CV

if theres any chnce of moyes being sacked then the guys who put him in charge deserve sacking as well,they probably had the choice of almost anyone they wanted  within reason. if he doesn't merit at least two seasons then he didn't merit the job in the first place.

Man U have a problem with an ageing squad and a couple of seasons ago those players were better than they are now. United had a great defence when they had Van Der Sar, Vidic and Ferdinand at their best but their replacements are nowhere near their class. They had a fantastic midfielder in the shape of Paul Scholes. United always had world class players in most areas of the pitch but they have deteriorated badly in recent years. This side is the poorest united have had for decades imvho.

the biggest problem of course, with no champions league, is that they wont be able to attract the best players...

I suspect the time for getting in Fergie has passed now. 4th place has essentially gone - well, unless Arsenal really implode!!  The Champs League is a tricky proposition even when we're in the best of form, so, realistically, what could we achieve with Fergie in charge for a few months.

Back in December, though, it would have made some sense, since we still had a modest chance of 4th at that point, and that would have set us up nicely for a summer of rebuilding.    Ah well....

High_lander, to a large extent you are correct with the champions league but the Utd team just hasn't got the solidity to beat better teams 3 times (assuming they get past Olympiakos).  Moyes is remarkably lucky to be under so little pressure from the media with regard to his job. It was clear by October he wasn't the man for the job. The squad is nowhere near as average as it's being made it out to be. Moyes has made mistake after mistake and now confidence is very low too.

I'm not saying I'd put actual money on United winning the CL but it is a tournament that throws up some odd results.

No, Moyes won't get the sack cause he is the man for the job. Can't you all see how unlucky he has been? Just give him a summer or two to rebuild the horrible squad Sir Alex left him with. Not an enviable position for sure, Sir Alex had last season maybe 4th best squad that with combination of luck and good management somehow managed to pick up the title - for this season the squad has gotten worse and everyone else have improved, so Moyes is actually performing on par so far.

So keep patient and things will turn for the better very soon. Man Utd bound to invest and Moyes is the man to trust the transfer funds to.

I'd not be surprised if Arsenal get thrashed tomorrow night...

The road form is not bad suggesting that the likes of roo, rvp and januzaj will take advantage of the extra space they find away from home.
Clearly the home form is the problem. The old fergus bluster of 442, 2 wingers, intimidating refs and opponents wont cut it. Thats something he has to learn.
Moyes will have to build a new style of play, a modern continental style and Man U fans will have to suck it up

with a quiet word with mr roo imploring him to drop back into midfield when they havent got the ball (ie 60% of the time)

On no account do you want to see, ashley young involved, nor Mata, they dont work hard enough. Januzaj is still too green for this
sort of occasion, the way he was bullied by chelsea shows he still has a lot to learn.

Man Utd over performed last season while there main rivals under performed , Moyes has been caught in a perfect storm , who do you replace him with ?

The bottom line is that he should be getting much more out the players than he is.  Nothing he's said or done since he got the job suggest he's got what it takes for this job.

The crunch will come sooner than most people think as the bad results will keep coming and the excuses run out now players are back.  Why would the glazers trust him with £100m after burning £27m on Fellaini.  I think he'll go in the summer, he's just not the right man.
