Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has had a cheeky dig at Premier League rivals Chelsea, describing them as a "really good club" - but not a "massive" one like the Reds.

It came as the Northern Irishman was discussing Victor Moses, currently on-loan at Anfield from Jose Mourinho's side.

Moses has this week sat down with the Reds boss, with Rodgers explaining his reasons for substituting the Nigerian international at half-time in the FA Cup win over Oldham last weekend.

And Rodgers feels that what is important for Moses is to come to terms with being at a "big club."

"It’s not easy when you come to a big club," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"You come from a really good club like Chelsea to a massive club like Liverpool where there is expectancy every day.

"For any player to go into a big club is a huge difference in terms of mentality.

"He’s a good kid and I’m delighted to have him here. I’ve got no doubt that over the course of time here he will show his talent. I still expect him to make a big contribution in the second half of the season."

To be fair the burden of being expected to finish above Everton every year can get to the best of players.

Neil Mellor could have been better than Messi if only he'd had the mental strength to cope with that pressure.
Report sj January 12, 2014 3:10 PM GMT
Liverpool are clearly a bigger club. But would that bother 23 year old Moses? Not really, Rogers talks about the need for expectancy every day. Moses wasnt even alive the last time Liverpool won the league, Chelsea have won it 3 time in the last 9 years so I doubt very much it matters to Moses

probably not. but if he then banged millions into worldwide  marketing, that increased the clubs profile and turnover built a bigger stadium, that was full every game, sold more shirts than lpool worldwide, and won leagues and cups on a regular basis. what would then be your criteria for saying they weren't bigger?

Roman bought Chelsea cos they were v cheap (and very tax efficient) considering the amount of land they own etc (wd ken bates for running them into the ground before) nowt to do with history or size or football at all really. As for London (Chelsea) house prices that'll be (mainly) the Russian (mafia) keeping prices high so 'ordinary' British people are priced out of living in many parts of central London - esp Chelski - now the Chinese are following Roman's example. Wd Roman for that - the less British there are in London all the more room for the rich (tax) tourists.......

the inner part of south west london has always been in the very top bracket for property prices.

regarding when he bought them, they were a team in the aformentioned location who were in the champions league [and have been ever since].

i suppose it backs up your prejudices to blame roman and chelsea for the high property prices even though they are baseless in fact.

the top and bottom of it is that prices have always been at the top of the market because it's one of the most delightful areas in the greatest city on the planet.

Anyone remember Chelsea's victory parade after they won the Champs League? It was laughable, a few streets and maybe 100k there. Shows how their support stands up to the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd. When Liverpoool won the Champs League there were estimated between 500k and 1 million on the streets. Man Utds treble parade was also immense.

Chelsea parade consisted of driving the bus past Romans house Grin
