The Mirror's Derek McGovern and Jon Shaw gives a tip in their betting column which runs between Tuesdays and Saturdays. This will not include any weekend accas or any bets mentioned on the rest of their page. As they don't give a staking plan, I shall treat them all as 1 point win stakes, unless they give an each-way selection.

Good luck all.

I know you have form for not reading other posts, but surely you have some idea of what your own posts say?

You've constantly said from the start that because of the constraints he can't be expected to make a profit on his selections(Which is fair and we can all agree). Now you've joined what I and others have been saying in that he's just putting up nonsense bets for the sake of it.

A big movement from the cheerleading you were doing earlier in the thread when he hit a winning run and constantly trying to get the thread pulled.

I notice in the other thread you've been caught out posting some 'stats' from a paper without checking them. This thread should be a clue as to why you don't blindly follow paper tipsters.

Report kenilworth September 13, 2014 1:49 PM BST
I have said that McGovern or anyone else, would find it
near impossible to show a profit, tipping within the
constraints they work within, I stand by that. I also
think his picks are just throw away lines in
with no explanation as to how he arrives at it, probably
because he doesn't do any research!! What amazes me is that
some people seem to think he should win at it, God only knows
why.
Regards the other thread you refer to, have another look.
Report stu September 13, 2014 1:59 PM BST
I get what you are trying to say, however do you believe he has no responsibility for his actual tipping record?
Report stu September 13, 2014 2:00 PM BST
i.e. could he lose every bet and it wouldn't be a problem then?
Report CJ70 September 13, 2014 2:02 PM BST
Yes, ken. That's what most people in this thread have been saying and you've been firefighting against.

I'm glad you are now on the same page. That just leaves Derek and his mates who think he's a tipster.
Report kenilworth September 13, 2014 2:55 PM BST
CJ70, Working under the constraints that McGovern tips under,
I think it would near impossible for ANYONE, not jut him,
to show a profit. Whether he tries very hard or not, I have
no idea but any one who thinks because he works for a newspaper,
writing a daily column, means he should make it pay, is
not in touch with reality. That is what I am saying, and recording
his picks is childish.
Report CJ70 September 13, 2014 3:12 PM BST
It's not childish when he's all over the place talking about how good his record is, is it?

Childish would be trying to get the thread pulled so people can't see said record.

(Nobody will believe for a second that McGovern has actually read any books on the Booker Prize book of the year shortlist. That hasn't stopped him tipping up a book about a child who had a chimpanzee living with them for a sister. (I know, posh books eh?). He's only wrote that so he could squeeze in the joke "I've had a monkey on it at 6/1"
His Bet Of The Day though is a different matter - he's just not very good and needs help).

No. I know you are getting on a bit, but try to remember what you wrote earlier or just read the thread back. It's not that hard for any normal person.

You complain when people think you are a joke, yet you are unable to function on a basic level in a conversation. You don't learn and your response is always to throw abuse when people don't agree with you.

I am rude to those who are rude to me,
it's as simple as that, and you fall
into that category right up to your neck.
Everything I say, you disagree with.

Nobody is rude to you. You are mocked openly by myself and others because you want to be something you are not. I think I've been generously playful towards you considering you can't hold a conversation and struggle with basic betting that isn't back Team A to win at X.

You should learn from this thread and your changes of opinion. I wont hold my breath.

I'll repeat it's admirable that you keep coming back to defend one of the people you clearly admire, but your constant flip-flopping to try and save face does you no favours.

Regards Mc Govern, and how I see him. He is a professional
journalist, writes a mildly amusing piece for a Red Top and
most days puts up a bet, without qualification, on all sorts
of sport, IMO a fun bet. It seems that on level stakes, this
bet shows a loss, reportably of between 15% and 20%, which
is what I would expect anyone to 'achieve' under the constraints
he makes his selection(s). It seems some people on here think
he should show a profit for reasons I fail to understand and
and he is mocked unjustly IMO. I have repeatedly invited his critics
to show us/me how it should be done but so far no one has, because
it's virtually impossible for them to do better. I defend any
tipster to win doing what he does, but some people think because
he writes for a newspaper qualifies him as profitable tipster, what
rubbish IMO. I think it's because they almost mostly are losers
overall, and it makes them feel better about themselves. I come
under criticism mainly because I defend him, a heinous act ITO. His
main critic(s), I will just ignore from here on.

Report CJ70 October 28, 2014 11:14 AM GMT
Again your response shows you haven't read the thread and don't understand. It's quite easy and lazy to suggest that the guy you admire is getting heat because he isn't showing a profit.

You both get heat because you both desperately want to be something you are not. You gave the game away in your previous reply, suggesting people were being rude to you on the basis they didn't agree with what you said. It's a bitter mentality and says a lot about where you are coming from.

You'll be back soon enough to the thread. Everyone knows it including yourself.

I tried it and failed.... Marychain beat him comfortably though....
As I have always said I enjoy most of his jokes and the only thing I object to the fact that it says "sports betting top tipster" above his column. Or is that part of the joke maybe?

He's back on Twitter and has restarted his website, also back on Hills giving abuse on their podcasts.

All this has happened since Joe39 stopped updating this thread.
