Too much too soon. Only surprise is  he got the boot this month not next. Needs to spend more time in the lower leagues learning the job, especially the man management bit.
Passion doesn't equate to ability.
Sunderland should accept they made a bad decision hiring him.

Sickening the cowardism shown by fletcher leaving them to play with them men is nothing surprising same at wolves
And  then he left
Report akabula September 23, 2013 10:57 AM BST
Was a fight with the players on the training pitch yesterday that got him sacked.
He had a right go at them and they ganged up on him. Player power out of control.
Report dizzydavid1 September 23, 2013 11:15 AM BST
Ridiculous appointment in the first place. He's like an overgrown child. The chances of him lasting a year without throwing his toys out of the pram or falling out with the players was always a 100-1 shot.
Report jed.davison September 23, 2013 11:33 AM BST
Disgraceful scenes.

I wonder whether he will get a percentage of the tens of millions he saved them by keeping them up last year, because they were certainties to go down until he arrived.

Paolo di Canio will have his day, that's for sure. And Sunderland won't.

What sort of person is he?

^^^^^^^ the sort that stamps his foot and shouts louder and louder until he gets what he wants and if that doesn't work, storms out in a strop. A control freak. The sort that loves to make a drama out of a situation if he can. Sorry Paolo, this probably sounds a bit harsh, it's nothing personal mate!
Report peckerdunne September 23, 2013 12:02 PM BST
Yes i agree...
Report jermaine defonebox September 23, 2013 12:10 PM BST
The british players who were there before he arrived had a meeting behind his back and went to the chairman and demanded him out
An absolute joke
Like I said you have mr loyalty fletcher with an Oscar winning preface after missing an open goal being helped off by the physio with a supposed injured arm   Leaving them to play with ten men and having no hope
IMO and from what I hear this was probably a pre planned action and if proven he should be banned from football. He's been apparently injured almost continually since signing from wolves where alarmingly similar things happened
Report peckerdunne September 23, 2013 12:13 PM BST
So dont play him, manage the the situation.
Report dizzydavid1 September 23, 2013 12:15 PM BST
Jermaine, why did the British players want him out? Anything to do with his man management "skills" or was that just a coincidence?
Report jed.davison September 23, 2013 12:18 PM BST
They want him out because they reserve the right to act like the game owes them a living and to treat the fans with contempt. He wants them to act like professionals.
Report jermaine defonebox September 23, 2013 12:18 PM BST
He tried stopping them stuffing burgers and ketchup before games and tried to get them passionate and fit
Player power won as usual
If I was a Sunderland fan I would not be happy with the players efforts not the manager
IMO his mistake was not changing the entire squad because the ones he. Kept made sure he was playing games with 8 men
Report The Shiekh September 23, 2013 12:21 PM BST
it was quite sad watching the man being screamed at by the ignorant horde, just because he has principles and wanted the players to behave in a professional manner
Report dizzydavid1 September 23, 2013 12:29 PM BST
If he had any man management skills instead of being such a drama queen with his spoilt little kid persona, he'd have been able to get his players onside like so many other managers do, and get them to work with him, as a team. As an aside, the guy's like Thatcher, you either love him or "hate" him, doesn't seem to be much middle ground, he seems to have divided opinion nicely on this thread. Anyway, I'm off out and I just hope he never get's the manager's gig at Griffin Park.
Report dave d September 23, 2013 1:09 PM BST

Report jermaine defonebox September 23, 2013 2:41 PM BST
Dizzy they wouldn't play for oneill and everyone else.  plus fletcher downed tools on macarthy   So its a no win situation for anyone who goes there
As they will find as who wants to manage a club where they have without doubt the thickest bunch of fans in the world   This is an area that can't seem to understand coal is outdated and they no longer need to send their children down the mines with a canary on their head to make sure it's safe for the grown ups to blow holes through the earths core
They are so deluded they are mentioning people like di mateo after seeing how they treated his  mate he's sure to go there lol

I think they drew the line when he wanted them to wear swastika armbands, 'Seig Heil' instead of shake hands and go synchronised goose-stepping when they scored a goal.

Oh and refusing to 'park the Panzer Tank' rather than the bus.

Sacked for caring more than most players
I have an reliable source that has said that during training sessions when he first arrived he was one of the fittest guys  there
Hence he said he was alarmed at how unfit they all were and got rid f most banned the burgers n ketchup and upped the training and diets and the few he didn't kick out were still senior players and it was them that stabbed him in the back
I mean has fletcher ever looked anything other than 55 yrs of age no wonder he's always handing in sick notes

Discipline is a good thing. Does sound as though DC imposed just a bit too much of it though. These players didn't have to play football for him. He'd be wrong to pamper them, but treating them with constant stick and no carrot seemed a strange way of getting them to be loyal to him.

And the public slagging off of players seemed very stupid. The occasional big ego would benefit from being punctured in public. Most players, though, will just react badly to that sort of treatment.

I reckon next it will be the last man fletcher would want  mick firm but fair macarthy for the hot seat. Deserves another chance similar scene to di canio performs miracle keeping wolves up the the players   Next year fletcher and the boys all think they are maradona wolves relegation fight macarthy loses dressing room ......and gets sacked

Di Canio was right to be sacked but make no mistake some of our players are pr1cks of the highest order. Players are no longer threatened by getting 2 weeks fines, most of them have made enough cash by the time they reach 20 year old to retire and lead a comfortable lifestyle, it sickens me that players have all the power these days.
