Blackburn are a strange animal. On paper they have arguably one of the best squads in the division yet seem to under achieve and struggle during the season (maybe not helped with all the stuff that goes on in the background).

The likes of Grant Hanley, Scott Dann and Matt Kilgannon are decent centre halves at this level. Orr and Givet solid fullbacks. The midfield is still fairly strong with Lowe, Formica, Dunn, Pedersen and Rochina and they have plenty of goals at their disposal with Rhodes, Leon Best and DJ Campbell.

A lot seems to be expected of Derby too this season around. Clough slowly seems to be building a decent young squad and I've heard quite a few pundits predict a playoff place for them this year. If Jonny Russell clicks and finds his Dundee United form then he should comfortably hit double figures which is essential. Last year they seemed too reliant on the goals of Jamie Ward. If Connor Salmon chips in with a few I can see them top half but maybe a top 6 finish is a bit beyond them. Much depends on the form of young Hughes and Hendrick.

Should be a very close game today. Draw is probably the sensible option but I'm willing to chance that Blackburn will be much improved this season and take the 4.7 on them to win. Good luck.

Marrow and Lowe look 2 peas in a pod. Big, bustling English midfielders without an ounce of footbaling ability between them.

I'd still fancy Blackburn to get back into this; they've been all over them most of the half.

This lad Marrow looks even worse than Lowe. To think that they have a class act in David Dunn on the bench too!

Apparently he has been outstanding today. Really? Must've missed his outstanding performance this half.

Not disagreeing that I think he looks a decent player Glossy but they go so overboard every time he so much as looks at the ball.
Report themover August 4, 2013 4:56 PM BST
I'm not a regular watcher of the Championship (but as it's on Silly) and from the limited amount I've seen it appears technical ability is very limited. It has to be the coaching because as in this match they treat the football like it's a hot potato and something that should be got rid of as soon as possible to whoever appears available....suffice to say it's hard to work out what they are trying to do most of the time Laugh
Report Glossy August 4, 2013 4:56 PM BST
Yes, agreed mullet. You know Sky though, they get a storyline or an idea in their head and they'll run with it; regardless of the actual situation. You'll probably find its his birthday or his missus is due to give birth.
Report mulletmaster August 4, 2013 4:59 PM BST
What the hell does Shaun Barker look like? :-D
Report dan_411 August 4, 2013 5:06 PM BST
Blackburn no chance of getting back into it now. Shaky as anything after they conceded the goal. There's no quality there in that midfield, Rhodes can't get in to the game and the defenders don't seem to know what to do with the ball when it's at their feet.

Derby are pressuring Spurr when he gets the ball too, it feels like they're gonna force a big mistake out of him in the second half.

Derby are not exactly looking like world beaters themselves here though. Not much attacking threat there but don't see Blackburn getting past them so it'll probably stay in Derby's grasp until the end.

Report Rasiak9 August 4, 2013 5:16 PM BST
2.5 is definitely do-able. Especially with a Bburn equaliser!
Report Glossy August 4, 2013 5:17 PM BST
Seems that way. The forwards themselves aren't too bad but the service is woeful at times. Blackburn could definitely do with bringing Dunn on. That could open the game up.

Report Keefter August 4, 2013 5:36 PM BST
for me Derby look happy at 1-0, if they get a big counter attack opportunity they might take it but otherwise happy to not commit to many forward. if you're on >2.5 you need a Blackburn goal imo

Glossy what are a fool you are. A very good start to the season for Blackburn who were far the better team. Under Gary they have somebody who knows the game has developed players like Phil Jones and who has the total backing of the players. The pricks who they previously employed didn't have the ability to lace this lads boots. You give him 5 weeks do you, well put your money where your big fat mouth is then.
Report Glossy August 4, 2013 7:19 PM BST
Try My Best, you are clearly a big mouthed clown yourself. I saw Gary Bowyer play for my club as he was learning the ropes. I don't doubt his managerial ability, just the agenda of those around him and the players that he is allowed to purchase (not that he has much say in who they are I should imagine). Blackburn are reasonable at the back and above average up front but extremely poor in midfield. I'll give you that for free. If you're a Blackburn fan you will see this throughout the season and you can apologise in May, if not sooner.
Report ian merseyside August 5, 2013 2:10 AM BST
Typical tactics of the modern manager after going a goal up.  Shores up the midfield and then bizarrely takes off his best player (Will Hughes) to try and secure the 1-0.  Surely better to really press for the second?
Report smithy91 August 5, 2013 12:36 PM BST
Glossy spot on he knows a bad player when he sees one. First of all blackburn were massive at 4/1 the game showed that. Thank god for leon best making up for the howling miss earlier he won me a few quid with the equaliser. I probably wasn't the only one!  Now onto jason lowe. Can't believe that **** is still playing! As a 15 year old trialist at blackburn myself I played right back and he was on left mid. One of the easiest games ever back pocket job! As for phil jones yeah you could tell he had it. Just pass him the ball he was scoring worldies from outside the box!  4 he scored and we won 9-1! Then after about a year steve nixon the **** in charge of youth devolpment said sorry smithy your not better than what we have got we will monitor your performances for accy stanley. Yeah course you will thats why I'm playing pub football now! I said steve I'm better than jason lowe simple as! Playing for england under 21s now with those dreadful sideways passes. Takes the micheal!
