We've signed four players already, and hopefully close to signing the lad from Shakthar for 20m plus.

All going the right way at our place IMO. Long road back, but got to start somewhere.

when you take of the money you get from a.c jbs and suarez that will balance the books i would have thought

Just AC and Cara going has virtually balanced it already. Don't think Suarez will go myself. But good luck to him if he does.

Will signing him improve United? Yes... obviously. Because he'd be an addition (for the moment) rather than a replacement.
Is a decent left-back top priority, I'd say not but unless he's the only signing we make that's ok too.
The problem I have is a more general one of a manager simply signing what he knows. If Baines is the extent of that, fair enough. If we end up with Fellaini and half of Everton's backroom staff as well, that would be a worry.

I think Baines is better than Evra and therefore I'd say it would be an improvement.

Cole has been the best defensive fullback in the world for the last 5 years, if you watch him play he hardly makes an error, makes all the right decisions, is fit, fast enough to keep up with the fastest wingers... however he's lacking when he has to go forward, does some basic work but nothing exceptional and wont create a goal for the team all season- a part of baines' game that has really developed.

Obviously this is a strength of Evras game as well, goals/assists come naturally, BUT he can be found wanting when up against a decent winger. Baines is a combo of the 2, sound def and adds quality in atk, plus he has a v healthy attitude towards life and is loyal/ dependable which adds value in the long term, AND deserves a crack at the big time with a quality team.. gd move for both sides.

Should be a good signing but as Pand says, it is a worry that the new guy seems to be trying to create a mini Finch Farm there. The only recent comparison I can make is Hodgson at Liverpool and that great left back he brought with him - Mr P.Konchesky.

Fair enough, i think he is light years behind cole who is past his best.

And then it became clear this was a fishing trip.....

Baines would be a great signing for Utd. Think of the damage he causes for Everton down the left linking up with Pienaar, then magnify that by a team which generally enjoys a much higher share of possession and spends most of its time going forward. Definitely better than Evra and could enjoy 3 or 4 really good seasons at Old Trafford raking up the assists.

Would Seamus Coleman be a better signing?

Baines is a fantastic player, I would love to have him at Arsenal, consistency is an underrated quality sometimes.

if he didn't score the odd spectacular goal or two would he still be rated so highly?

i have my doubt,Especially given the asking price.

Sonko, how many have you caught on the hook with this statement, I see you haven't named any players that would be on the Man Utd shopping list for a left back above Baines?Laugh

Young and one of the best left backs around.

Age is no reason to justify his status above Baines as a player. Try again?

Given that he created more chances than any other player in Europe last season, I'd say yes.

Why would Baines want to move anyhow? Hasn't he publicly just declared his desire to stay at Everton and work under Martinez.
