England don't qualify with 2nd place, they are not in great shape and must win 3 of their last four matches against teams they have already failed to beat.
Will be a shame to see no England at the next world cup, but at least Hodgson will be sacked.

2 wins could be enough, but on the other hand we could win 3 and still finish 2nd.
The whole group rests on our game in Ukraine. If they beat us, it's out of our hands even if we win all our other games.

I hear the FA are so pleased with halfwit's management of the Under21 squad, having played 3 and lost 3 games in the finals that they are considering halfwit for the full England job.
If that's the case then England not to qualify will be a certainty!

Great, a play off match possibly against France, Croatia, Russia, Sweden, Czech Rep.....
England need 3 wins in their final 4 matches which should be pretty standard, but you would have expected to have already qualified considering the dogs in their group. We are constantly giving the teams around us hope and you just know one of them will turn up at Wembley and pi55 on Woy's parade.

Play offs at best. Deary me. Confident people here who do sh1t all talking with their wallets. England still ODDS ON TO TOP GROUP a huge lay for those predicting them PLAY OFFS AT BEST.

Fair enough. Here is the market if anyone wants to get involved in England topping the group or not.http://www.betfair.com/exchange/football/market?id=1.103350840
even if we get a draw in kiev very likely we'd have to beat both poland and montenegro at home to win the group and can anyone see a hodgson side doing that ?
on the other hand 2 wins and a draw from the 4 games which is the minimum even this pish poor side england should get will mean a play off place. very unlikely to finish bottom of the 2nd placed sides as they are at the moment with a game in hand

IMO England are right in contention to be the worst 2nd placed team and not even make the play offs
7pts is about what you'd expect i agree which would give a total of 13 without the San Marino games , but that would be close run i think as 4 groups already look certain to get 14+

England are invariably a value lay in nearly every market as they are backed in to stupid odds by patriotic punters. they were favourites to win in 90 mins against germany in the last wc after drawing with algeria and the US. they are currently the same price as holland and italy to win the next wc and both of them are top of their group by a distance. Belgium are lower priced than all 3 of them too. I know they have a good team and are also top of their group but that is still ridiculous IMO (regarding italy and holland only)

I don't think FIFA will want a WC without England. England is a huge market for tv rights. They will be looked after if they get a play-off. Just like France were last time

tobermory, i haven't studied the 2nd place table in detail but from a quick glance it looked like a lot would have to against england with 13 points and a very good difference.
think the 2 sides immediately above them had 7 with 3 games left. both would need 2 wins and a draw to keep england bottom. surely that's unlikely ?
