They can't rely on a video. They need someone at the game to update them. For that they use Betradar but obviously Betradar are having problems hence the situation. Even still it's unprofessional in my opinion. This is a risky business gambling, and things like this happening should be near illegal

Do they REALLY have someone at every game? Someone paid to go the icelandic womens 3rd division reserves? (They really do have some madly obscure games inplay these days!). I suppose they could have a smartphone app with like 4 buttons on it, kick off, suspend, unsuspend or something, and be paid in commision waving ... Devil

I think someone said it correct earlier. These betting companies are outsourcing the data collection

Spent all day today looking forward to the 2nd half of Belgian Pro League (Where I make a good chunk of cash most weeks)

You are learning how fragile it is for an exchange trader on BF to survive.
I had to leave Australia because in-play Internet betting is banned there. I went to Europe and had a good few years before the new tax regime meant that Betfair pulled the plug in Germany. In the meantime I started getting hit with that fecking permium Charge. Now I`ve had to move on again and live in Croatia.
This is not a sob story but an instruction to be careful and not rely on BF to make you your $$.

In-Play matches going down are the least of your worries if you want to make this site pay..

I'm well pissed off anyway. And I haven't technically lost any money apart from opportunity cost, I can only imagine how people who lost money are feeling...

But if he'd e.g. stayed in oz and used a proxy, was this just a crafty workaround OR doing considered locally as "wrong"?

Any country that makes cycle helmets mandatory clearly has a messed up control freak legal system...

Not heard of proxies?

Loads of Aussie punters who started betting all the time in-play on AFL and Tennis whilst on "permanent holiday" had their accounts shut down by BF.
Plenty of naive Germans thought they could pull the same stunt after the ban by giving BF the address of their auntie in Austria and use a VPN Tunnel or similar.
I would struggle to earn as I am accustomed if my BF account were closed so I aint going to do anything stupid. You underestimate how seriously BF take these things esp. Germany where they would have serious tax liabilities should German based bettors use the exchange.

Face it, given the frequency of fck ups by betfair in the past 12 months, they must assume that those who are still here will put up with any sh1t.

On the plus side maybe property and beer is cheaper in croatia? :)
By:

A pint in the pub here costs $2 Cool property cheap too but the girls aren_`t..

The point I was making was that the whole thing is a fragile existence that could go down anytime. Take nothing for granted - nothing at all.
If you can trade 2nd div. Belgian football for a profit then great but don`t count on it continuing & don`t rely on BF as it seems you are..GL

Exactly RAPS. The people on here with steady jobs during this recession who talk about throwing it in to go full time as they've been making a bit of a profit for a while need their heads examined. Sooooo many variables.

Maybe Chris Huhnes "4th career" will be Betfair Trader? Wink

RAPS, how are you living in Croatia, as in, are you on some sort of visa ?
By:
RAPS
When: 16 Mar 13 23:06
There are several reasons why I´ve ended up in Croatia.
1.) I have a 5 y.o daughter growing up in Germany and there are direct flkights daily
2.)As a Namibian citizen with an Australian Passport there were no other countries around here that would give me a visa of more than three months without an awful lot of effort.
It is so much easier for EuropeansCry If they see anything African you are fcked!
But it worked out - I have a one year visa but had to prove no criminal record + sufficient funds in order to get it.
why?
By:

When: 16 Mar 13 23:12
Ahh ok I'd have presumed you were one of these ozzies that can get UK passports and Croatia is in Europe, so easier for them?
By:

Just curious, I'm an Australian living in the UK, was wondering how an Australian-passport holder moves to Croatia
By:

When: 16 Mar 13 23:22
Nah mate - no way I could ever get a UK Passport unless I marry an "English Rose" (Code for FAT but reasonable FACE).

Even most "real Aussies" would have s struggle to live permanently in Europe as a nichteuropear
By:

johndemer

It`s pretty simple to get a rolling 12 month visa as long as you can show that you have no criminal record. They wanted to see "sufficient funds" to finance myself during the stay but I noticed afterwards that the Bank Statement I provided had a negative balance so that probably aint so important....

I see Croatia is joining the EU properly this year, I'd have though the visa requirements would knd of get standardised?
By:
RAPS
When: 16 Mar 13 23:48
Just Checking,

1.) joining the EU is by no means certain because one country may hold out(Slovenia)and one (1) veto is enough to kill it.
2.) Even if they were to join that wouldn`t help me personally because if you have a passport from a non-european country you are handicapped anyway. eg. When I lived in Stuttgart I went to Glasgow with a party of VfB Stuttgart fans to see the CL game against Celtic. All my VfB german mates waltzed through customs but I had to stay and answer a half-dozen q`s before being let in.(much to their amusement..)
By:

When: 16 Mar 13 23:56
I'm afraid that's kind of what I meant, it might make things harder for you not easier.

Yes the controls have the "EU" door and the "non EU" door, just way it is I'm afraid.

But it works both ways, you should've seen the Oz guys react when I tried to take that Koala home in my hand luggage Whoops
