Crashed into 1/5 this morning (yes i know it's only with sky bet) to be the next manager sacked.

Seems a bit odd after a 5 game unbeaten run.

Anyone know anything?

Southampton would be crazy to get rid of him! He, and the team, weathered the early season troubles and are playing well now and not rolling over if they go behind. I wonder, if the markets correct, who they are looking to bring in.

Let's get rid of the guy who's won us 2 straight promotions, and now has us outside of the relegation zone and bring in a guy with no knowledge of English football who was sacked by Espanyol 6 weeks ago. Great move!!

Who the f*ck advises these club owners?

Crazy decision if that's correct tobes. I think he's done a fantasic job at the club and if they bring a new man in now I fear they'll get relegated.

the article mentions another on the shortlist is Christian Gross

Scared

yeah agree seems very odd indeed . Certainly would make them long odds on as it is to finish above Reading/QPR  and they'd have a good chance vis a vis Villa/Wigan

The potential replacements seem very dodgy and the fans would be up in arms just when they seemed on the right track Confused

I'm not sure it would take too much for the bookies to react in such a way.

They don't seem particularly happy about it

I often wonder what some clubs expectations are! Adkins has worked wonders at Southampton considering they were in league one in 2010 when he took charge  Cry it's a meteoric rise for a club like Saints

2 straight promotions and 15th in the premier league, sitting above Newcastle and villa. Thanks for your efforts Nige, cheerio!

What do they expect a guy with almost no knowledge of English football who will probably never have even heard of half the Saints squad to do better than Adkins?

Not to mention he just got sacked after a horrendous start to the season with Espanyol, and he'll have to deal with a squad no doubt pissed off at Adkins going.

You can wager this has been planned for a while, I can see them getting relegated now and facing a backlash from supporters.

i go for Scunthorpe and he took us to dizzy heights (for us) only for us to fall from them as soon as he left

then goes to Southampton and as every one knows two promotions and going ok now in the EPL

wow - that is amazing - all the best to him and another team will get themselves a great manager

Yeah, owner probably hoping for a big defeat at Chelsea to somehow justify sacking Adkins.

Ridiculous decision

Have enjoyed watching Southampton this season whenever they've been on TV, hope they go down now

I don't undrstand the 'hope they go down' comments.

Fair enough if you want the owners to fail but spare a thought for the fans as well.

Looking at Pochettino's record in La Liga i'd say it was just about on a par with Gary Megson's EPL record (though at least Megson had promotions on his CV)

all adkins needs is to get some european experience with a bigger club and he will be a future english manager.

disgraceful.  2 successive promotions from league 1 to the premier league.  january and they're above the relegation zone.  recent draws against arsenal and chelsea.  unbeaten in their last 5 league games (4 of which were away matches). shocking.

Saints statement:

Southampton Football Club has this morning appointed Mauricio Pochettino as First Team Manager, having relieved Nigel Adkins of his managerial duties.

Forty year old Pochettino has earned a reputation as one of the most talented young coaches in European football thanks to an impressive spell in La Liga with Espanyol.

The Argentine was widely linked with a future role at one of Spain’s top clubs, but having left Espanyol in November now joins Southampton to continue his top-flight managerial career.

Pochettino will take charge of training on Saturday ahead of his first game as Southampton First Team Manager on Monday evening (21st December) against Everton in the Barclays Premier League.

However we fail to mention that he left in november because he was sacked with his side bottom of la liga and he can't speak English!! LaughLaugh

Everton, Man Utd and Man City are 3 of his first 4 games.

You better hit the ground running Mauricio.
