Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak admits he is afraid of visiting Manchester City in the Premier League and hopes his side can avoid a humiliating defeat.

The Royals are rock-bottom of the table ahead of Saturday's trip to the defending champions and have lost their last six games on the bounce.

Pogrebnyak knows manager Brian McDermott needs to find a solution and believes the journey to the Etihad Stadium will be a daunting one.

"Maybe I'm influenced by my emotions but we're a bit afraid of travelling to Manchester," the Russian told Sovsport.ru. "At least I'm (afraid).

"I hope we don't concede 10 goals (on Saturday). I hope our manager will find something."

The 29-year-old frontman acknowledges the Royals, who lost 5-2 at home to Arsenal on Monday night, have not been playing well and feels something has to be done.

"Is it time for a change? As I see the situation it's high time for a change and it has been for a long time but it's not me who should be targeted with this question," he said.

"Not only on Monday but we've been playing badly for a long time.

"But we don't give up the fight. Unfortunately we haven't been able to show more than this so far."

Well, I believe City will win, but won't be easy to pull this off as people may've been thinking. I'm backing City conservatively and that's about it.

Will either be a 2-0 scruffy game with goals coming 2nd half or 6-0/7-0 and a complete rout.No chance Man City don't win this game.

Problem is not only Mancini. This team is just a sum of stars like Real Madrid, not a real team like Man United or Barcelona, who play with closed eyes.

Depends on the cases. You are right about games like this, as I told back there it would be a close victory, but you do not lay games like Barcelona, not even with 22 blokes from Reading hiding inside the box.

Report Greenknight December 22, 2012 5:10 PM GMT
Also Mancini is an awful manager. It doesn't read the damn game, he doesn't know what to do when other teams bring the bus, he simply has no clue of what to do except relying on inspirational moments from individuals.

to be fair and from an independent view, Barry made a genuine attempt to attack the ball which he has every right to - Shorey cant stand and duck and expect to get away with it - what sort of defending is that ?
Report mcfc1981 December 23, 2012 12:13 PM GMT
50/50 shorey would have prob got a foul if he made any attempt to play the ball, def not a blatant foul like the reading manager is making out, whats this blatant pen he is talking about ????
