Wouldn't make my top 30 of all all time

1) it was a hit and hope type of goal.

2) It was a friendly

3) Hart was 20 yards from goal (open net)

4) First choice defence not present.

instinctive for him to score an overhead goal from 25 yards out, back to goal -not knowing where the defence is?

He was adle to know almost exactly where the defence were. This is something instinctive that a lot of very good players have.Players have a natural feel for this
Report mesmerised November 15, 2012 10:40 AM GMT
Answer this.

If he tried that 100 times - how many times do you think he'd score it - I would hazard a guess at ONE.

He's a fraud who wouldn't get into anyone's first choice 11 in the last 12 years, his record in Italy is good because it's a pedestrian league, he couldn't cut it at Barca where they shipped him out after a year and now he hides in the doldrums of French football.

As an arsenal fan, I'm disappointed in your eye for a player if you think he's in the top 20 of the last 12 years - not only that, I or shall I say we, could both name a few Arsenal players of years gone by above and beyond anything Ibra's so called talent has produced. And we're just one club.

What we saw last night was a player execute not only a fantastic goal but also attempt something rarely ever seen - thats what makes it such a great goal. It has a WOW factor. Almost every football fan who saw that goal last night had a double-take of "how the hell did he do that !!!".    Then the smart arses analyse for hours afterwards and come to the conclusion that its a fluke or it doesnt count as it was a friendly or that he would never pull that off again- do me a favour.

4 years at Ajax, 2 at Juve and left them because they got relegated for match fixing. then 3 years at Inter. Just because he moves around doesn't mean he's overrated. Rather, it's far more likely he wanted a new challenge having won league after league with each of those clubs. And there is always another top club with the resources to buy another top player interested but they chose him. But of course you know better than all the managers who signed him. Clown

"its lucky because he doesnt do it every week"  jaysus..

Regular Fries already answered that for you - volleys can go anywhere just like Rooneys 'shinner' that didnt even hit his foot but went in. You might as well write off every great goal ever scored unless the same person does it again to prove that the first wasnt luck.

Your problem Mes (along with many others) is that you cant separate your opinion of the player from the goal. If that had been Rooney you would have had the kleenex out along with a lot of other Man U fans declaring it as the best goal ever.  You are obviously not a fan of Ibra (neither am I) but you are letting it cloud your judgement and you are looking for reasons NOT to appreciate the goal.
Report Biscuit1979 November 15, 2012 1:18 PM GMT
The argument that it was lucky because it could've gone anywhere is a poor one. Any player who has ever hit a volley, could've hit it anywhere.

Rooney doesn't score flying over head kicks every week and his shot could've gone anywhere but it didn't, it went in so it was a great goal.

To turn the argument round, Zlatan saw the keeper off his line, reacted in a split second, hit an over head kick and the ball went exactly where he wanted it to go. You've no rightful claim to call it lucky when the ball went exactly where he meant it to go.
Report mesmerised November 15, 2012 1:25 PM GMT
I have very few problems, I am the voice of reason a I demonstrate on a regular basis - I haven't said it was a bad goal, I've said it was a lucky goal,, what part of that are people struggling with, nobody can argue that scoring a goal with your back to it, not knowing fully where the defence is, is worth of such admiration, he took a punt and it paid off - and that my friends is exactly what is was, a punt, IMVHAHO.

What makes me laugh is that, when people are floundering, they being to rely on insults as a way to make their point seem more prevalent, as if losing your rag makes your view right because you're more passionate about it - stick to the facts. Fact is, it wouldn't make the top 30 goals of all time in any one's list unless they were born in the last 24 hours.

You've no rightful claim to call it lucky when the ball went exactly where he meant it to go.

I have every right, everyone that takes a shot at goal means it to hit the net, his shot was no different and many a better goal has been scored - in matches that actually matter - and where it's not 'hit and hope' because that is exactly what it was.
Report wallis November 15, 2012 1:26 PM GMT
Agreed. The claim that its 'lucky' when in a split second the guy manages to assess the situation, the whereabouts of the goal and then hit it with enough power and accuracy to score is laughable.

People hit volleys week after week and everyone could name 3 or 4 off the top of their heads that they prefer but you will struggle to think off anything to come close to last nights goal.

Im not saying its the greatest goal ever but finding fault in it is just ridiculous.

-The technique was good
-The goal was not a bad goal
-The goal was a lucky goal
-If he tried it a thousand times it would fail 99 times.

and mata is in the 40-45 range FWIW.

With Crouch's goal he at least knew where both the players in front of him were along with the goal, and still mange to sore an incredible goal at an incredible tight angle.

Rooney's goal was better but he was in a much tighter position surrounded by player with the ball comning to his feet at a much faster pace, but not the best over head kick I've ever seen given it came off his shin.

Just face it, he doesn't cut in when he mixes it with the big boys, no European Cup, no consistant top performances against a top international sides either - and that's not including England last night and their B list defence.

Kingorrome, the reason why Italy prevailed over England was simply down to poor tactics by Hodgson, who allowed Pirlo to have space and therefore dictate the game - an irrelevant point in relation to what an overrated player Ibra is,

He knew the 'keeper was well out, glory beckoned. He took a chance and got lucky. I agree with mesmerised, 100s of better goals even in the last 10 years.

......

'lurka

I think the clown is the person who comes up with as weak a justification for his 'moving on' status as you, yet another poster who can't string together conherant statements without sounding angry.'

So you admit that my statement above was 'conherent' [sic], just that I sounded angry? Or are you still sticking by your ridiculous reasoning that he left all those clubs against his will because manager after manager got rid after they realised he was overrated, despite him winning league title after league title?! My justification was weak? In comparison to that? Please.....

I'm sticking by my opinion that you are a clown. And I'm not angry at all, I'm laughing here along with the majority of people on this and all your other threads. I think the goal has been completely overhyped, wouldn't make my top 30 either btw

'it's easy to be player of the year in serie a' - yet another clownworthy statement. You are speaking with both feet in your mouth at this stage.

lurka, it was an overhead kick into an open goal as hamsterdam say - no amount of long winded post will change that. Anyway nvm I'm bored of it - and you.

Makes my list of top 10 goals despite being a friendly.

He knew Hart was 20 yards from goal that's why he went for the overhead kick....a great goal in my opinion; I'd also layed Sweden to win 3-2!Laugh

1) it was a hit and hope type of goal. MOST GOALS ARE YOU MORON

2) It was a friendly SODO TEAMS TRY AND LET IN WORLD CLASS GOALS IN FRIENDLIES?

3) Hart was 20 yards from goal (open net) KEEPERS DECISION SHOULD HE WAIT FOR HART TO GET BETWEEN THE STICKS?

4) First choice defence not present. NO DEFENDER WOULD OF STOPPED THAT FFS THEY CANT USE THEIR HANDS.

Pointless arguing with mesmerised, he doesn't like Zlatan so his mind is made up that it was lucky. Look at some of the forumites who've agreed with him (Roy Keane and Dawsy, need i say any more). One has an 'over rated' players thread that lists Messi and the other thinks Carrick is better than Xavi. Not to mention mesmerised himself who thinks di Natale, di maria and mario gotze are 2 of worlds 40 best players of the past 10 years.

Complete clowns.
Report mesmerised November 16, 2012 11:40 AM GMT
Those players in that list were top players I was thinking of off the top of my head to put into a top 20, if you re-read the thread you will see that, but to suit your points - you overlook that, for the record they wouldn't be in my top 20.

And Carrick is better than Xavi ?- do you enjoy being fished to tears?

Laugh Can't sleep with you around.

It was a friendly match so it doesn't count, I've seen them scored in Sunday league football, night.
Report tobermory January 14, 2014 1:47 AM GMT
Answer this.

If he tried that 100 times - how many times do you think he'd score it - I would hazard a guess at ONE.

I'd say probably 7 or 8 times . Near Miss/ hit post 20 times , respectable miss 20 times , long way out out the rest .

An average top league striker might get it close 2 or 3 times out of 100 . Mostly they would just fail to make any sort of good connection or mistime. But that's irrelevant as an average player would never think to try that in the first place.

Anyone who does not understand why this was an unbelievably great goal simply knows nothing about football..i would go further and say their judgement on any subject is in doubt

AHEM. I'm a quantum physicist and I'm a nominee for a Nobel prize, and I think the goal was dung.Laugh
