People outside of Scotland might not be aware of the McCall factor. Stuart McCall is a died-in-the-wool Rangers supporter, former player (part of the 9 in a row side) and big buddy of Ally McCoist. Motherwell's record v Rangers since he took charge is there for all to see - truly shocking !  He also probably thinks he has a chance of being Rangers manager one day so that's another reason for not upsetting his heroes.

But even if you don't buy any of this and believe all those results are just a statistical blip etc, there are some other reasons to be wary of backing Motherwell. Rangers have undoubtedly underperformed so far, give their squad of players who are clearly SPL standard, and not Div 3 standard. But their struggles have been away from home, on tiny pitches where their opponents have played as if it were a cup final. Poor attitude from the Rangers players, simple as that. They clearly believe they are above this level and haven't put the effort in. At Ibrox, it's been a different story, probably due to the big attendances and the big pitch, familiar surroundings etc. In the main, they have won their matches by wide margins at home. The one exception was the Ramsdens Cup tie v QOS, where they threw away a lead to draw 2-2, before going out on pens.  I think you can dismiss that result because it was only the Ramsdens Cup. Again a question over players motivation. Contrast this with the league cup ties where they played Falkirk in a previous round. Falkirk have been their biggest test so far, a good Div 1 side (who knocked them out the cup last year). There was a lot of talk beforehand about Falkirk going to Ibrox and beating them again, but Rangers battered them. You can imagine how easy it was for McCoist to motivate his players for that match. Motherwell represent the same kind of challenge - top of the SPL (currently) and everyone saying they should be favourites to beat Rangers, even at Ibrox. The Rangers players will be well fired up for this.

Add in the fact that it's live on terrestrial TV in Scotland, and you've got all the motivation the Rangers players need to put up a display of defiance, and a performance for their supporters who will be there in full numbers.

I make Rangers slight favourites at home here. Somewhere around 11/8 is about right.

Platini what a crock of sh1t .

Do you really think a professional manager is going to throw a game cos he used to play for the opposition?
What about Motherwell directors or fans ,they just accept this do they?

Finally the rangers squad is not SPL standard and is full of youngsters and money grabbers who could,nt care less as long as they get their inflated wages for playing in Div 3.

Motherwell should win this comfortably.

Are you off your nut...Rangers are shown for what they are...RUBBISH,,Motherwell at 6/4 is like taking sweets from a baby all day long.

Motherwell cracking price imo, dont be swayed by the name of Rangers they are a shadow of the side that played poorly in the SPL last year with all their decent players having jumped ship and being replaced by laddies and average SPL players.

I think you're seriously overestimating the strength of the SPL. Of course Sevco are weaker than they used to be, but they still have a better squad than the likes of Aberdeen. They are SPL standard. ie. p1sh in real terms.

Believe me, nothing would please me more than to see little Motherwell gubbing The Rangers in their own backyard, Laugh but under McCall I don't see it.

and how can anyone claim 6/4 is a good price when you could have had bigger than 2/1 ?? Do the maths.

the SPL players have already left rangers and left them with unknown youngsters and other players from smaller teams.

they are no longer SPL standard and if they were still in the SPL, they would be in relegation trouble.

they are now 3rd division standard and will need to seriously raise their game to have any chance against the SPL leaders.

Rangers may be nowhere near where they once were and rightly so, but they ll always have tradition. and that will help them when they face sides like Motherwell, who might be better currently but have a tradition of losing to Rangers on a regular basis

it wont win the game for Rangers alone. but this should be far from easy for Motherwell

Rangers look to be almost certainly without Ian Black, with McCulloch playing as a stand in centre back to try and patch up a very leaky defence.
With Higdon running riot this could get messy for a very young Rangers team.
A lay of Rangers, and small stakes on Well -1 and well -2 looks to be the bet for me.

Well now best price 2.5 with the Bookies after being backed big time all day, and now as short at 2.38
