Had a look back through the records and cant find any time this has happened. Could Hearts make history and become the first Scorttish team to beat an English team in Europe? Be an amazing event for a country like Scottland if this could happen.

When it was a level playing field, many Scottish teams beat English teams.

Now thanks to Murdoch its vastly changed in the EPL's favour.

Lot of young players in the Aberdeen side that were thrashed by Liverpool in 81.

Learnt a lot from that game, 2 years later Fergie won the European Cup Winners Cup beating Bayern Munich in the QF and Real Madrid in the final.

Celtic made a fair job of the great Leeds team.

When it was a level playing field the story was different.

It fact I think the England Captain and some of the team played for Rangers when English teams were banned from Europe due to the thugs who followed English teams back then.

But let's brush that unhappy period for your country under the carpet.

It hurts me to say, but Everton were knocked out of the Inter Cities Fairs Cup by Dunfermline & the Texaco Cup by Hearts.  I saw the defeat by Hearts.

As another post points out, things were very different pre Murdoch loot. Further back, Hearts were in the European Cup when Liverpool were still in the 3rd Div north or somesuch desert. To provide an evolutionary analogy, we were accountants and the like when 'pool fans were still bludgeoning their lunch to death with clubs, egged on by grunts in unison from their families.

Some things never change.

Is this some sort of haircut-on-welfare scheme that we don't get in England, like free prescriptions and tuition fees?
