Not until tomorrow night but the price has been crashing on Plymouth all day. Portsmouth have three registered players in their first team squad – a defender, a forward and a goalkeeper they signed today on non-contract terms. Any trialist that featured pre-season is ineligible for tomorrow night’s cup match meaning the team will be mainly made up of youth squad members and any last ditch loanees they may sign. Further to this Pompey’s last two friendlies have been a 4-0 defeat to Gibraltar and a 5-1 loss to Brighton.

Plymouth to win @ 2
Plymouth to score 4+ @ 10 (Billy Mountains)

Plymouth v Portsmouth preview

Team news ahead of Tuesday's Capital One Cup Round One clash between Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth at Home Park.

Argyle are set to give competitive debuts to summer signings Rhys Griffiths and Johnny Gorman.

Griffiths has joined the League Two side on a one-year deal after impressing on trial, putting his career as a firefighter on hold to make the step up to professional football for the first time.

Gorman, meanwhile, is on loan at Home Park from Wolves until January.

Argentine winger Andres Gurrieri may also make his first full appearance to become the first South American to play for the Pilgrims.

Fellow summer signing Jamie Lowry will miss out as he is expected to be sidelined until late October with a ankle ligament injury.

New skipper Darren Purse will wear the captain's armband for the first time after a successful operation on an injured toe over the summer.

Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton will be forced to pick from youth and development squad players.

Any trialists that have featured for Pompey during pre-season are not allowed to feature as the club are currently unable to sign new players.

Appleton will therefore call upon the remaining members of last season's youth side and the club's development players.

Defender Adam Webster, 17, and academy graduate Ashley Harris are the only surviving members of Portsmouth's original first team, and both are expected to feature in the inexperienced squad.

Pompey fell foul of League Two Barnet last season in their first round-one defeat in a decade. That was the first time they failed to score in a League Cup match for eight games.

Last friendly was actually a 3-0 Pompey victory over Bolton but that was with a side which included trialists who will be ineligible tomorrow.  Current price on a Plymouth win (just shy of evens) is a steal.  Bulk of side will be youngsters from the 'development squad' who were beaten 2-1 by Salisbury at the weekend.

Yes you're right, I read their friendly results in the wrong order!

Argyle are well capable of losing any match, no matter the age and quality of the opposition.
Report CJ70 August 14, 2012 1:42 AM BST
Will be good to see how Rhys Griffiths gets on. He was about two levels above the WP in his prime. That was a few years ago and you have to think the move to proper football has come to late for him to be a big splash.
Report ShirleyKnot August 14, 2012 9:58 AM BST
Pompey are set to play first team coach Ashley Westwood according to the local paper.
Report CJ70 August 14, 2012 10:43 AM BST
Apparently Portsmouth can still register players until 4.45. Anyone think there will be a market move when the youth team is confirmed or has it already been factored in?
Report Stone Roses August 14, 2012 11:32 AM BST
Yes loan players can be registered up until 3 hours before kick off. Plymouth are down to 8/11 now, will probably go shorter still.

Thought I'd missed the boat at evens. Interesting bournemouth getting backed for same reasons. 2.78 into 2.18

Agreed donut. I'm considering laying Plymouth at this price!
Report eagles2008 August 14, 2012 12:31 PM BST
I personally think theres value in this all the way down to 1.5. It's got to be the equivalent of Plymouth at home to a blue square South team.
Report ShirleyKnot August 14, 2012 12:51 PM BST
It is thought to be pretty much the same team that played and lost to Salisbury a few days ago so I agree this one has a bit to go yet.

These Pompey lads were well beaten by a Bl Sq South side on Saturday. Friendlies always difficult to assess but sounds like they were flattered by the final scoreline.

I'm an Argyle fan and I would say be careful backing us. Our record in this cup is shocking and our best striker isn't playing. 1st 25mins we haven't looked like scoring.
Report Boozle August 14, 2012 8:23 PM BST
BBC claims 10 shots at goal for Plymouth, 5 on target, with not even 30mins gone! (Only 1 shot, on target, for Pompey)
Report Boozle August 14, 2012 8:29 PM BST
And Pompey assistant manager has been subbed off, so the goalkeeper is the only senior pro left on the pitch for Portsmouth.
Report POMPEY1. August 14, 2012 8:30 PM BST
Four of those five on target roll into goalie 1mph, pompey's oldest outfield player aged 18 with westwood off, could tired badly last half hour here, will have a few wagers h/t.

Would have thought Westwood being off the pitch will mean their organisation drops off a bit too.

Pompey look like they are in a situation like Weymouth Town a few years ago when they went into financial turmoil had to play a load of youth team players. Some better teams in league 1 will post cricket scores against them. Its going to be worth opposing them big time at the beginning of the season
Report Stone Roses August 15, 2012 1:12 AM BST
Wish they'd got a 4th but a win is a win.

dont think pompey will be about for much longer.....

Chainrai had been in talks to purchase Pompey and administrators worked hard to remove highly-paid players from the wage bill - including Tal Ben Haim and Kanu - in order to facilitate the deal.
However, Chainrai has now accused administrator Trevor Birch of failing to co-operate fully during takeover talks and says he has withdrawn his bid.
"Portpin Ltd regrets to announce that it is withdrawing its bid for Portsmouth Football Club," read a statement released to Sky Sports News.
"Unfortunately, our efforts to save the club once more from extinction have hit a wall of rejection and lacking co-operation from the administrator and other interested parties.
"We are not the ones who have caused the club to collapse and we are not the ones to choose PKF as administrators.
"As history has recorded, we sold the club over a year ago after saving it from liquidation and unfortunately found ourselves again fighting to try and save the club from another liquidation.
"Through this administration process over the last six months we have always had the club's best interest in mind - unlike many parties who were involved in the process.
"We repeatedly encouraged the administrator to find a new, willing and able buyer to take over the club - unfortunately he was unsuccessful in this job and couldn't find a buyer despite his promises!!
"Later he approached us to be his safety net to save the club as he couldn't find a buyer. We agreed in the effort to avoid liquidation of the club.
"We welcome and will assist anyone, including the supporters trust, to try and save the club in the coming days."
Portsmouth lost 3-0 in the League Cup on Tuesday night and were forced to field nine teenagers as well as first-team coach Ashley Westwood.
