cant believe martinez and rodgers are being mentioned - really have we sunk that low

vidou 17 May 12 00:19
Paul Lambert and Brendan Rogers are similar in that they've done ok this year in the Prem but we need more than that - we need a coach who would do ok every year and these two just don't tick that box.

G1 Jockey 4 17 May 12 21:28
hes basically had one decent season in the premier league.....failed miserably with reading but did quite well with watford.

1.the cv is still poor
2.just being able to play a certain way isnt the correct criteria.

if he continually gets swansea where they are for say 3 seasons on their budget maybe he would be worth a look.

Tavaris Jackson 18 May 12 22:42
There is one reason and one reason only why Brendan Rodgers decided not to put his name forward or speak to the owners over the Liverpool job.

He knew he wasn't going to get it.

vidou 19 May 12 07:35
Brendan Rodgers is manager of Swansea and he turned down the chance to be interviewed for what would once have been regarded as one of the top posts in world football. Simple as that and I think that is a pretty damning indictment of the current state of LFC. That is what I mean by 'less of a risk.'

Can't Catch Me 21 May 12 12:07
This might well chnage! But my current top 3 candidates in order are:

1. Rafa
2. AVB
3. Paul Lambert

I actually think Lambert did every bit as well as Rogers, arguably more, with a worse side.

REDUNDANT PUNTER 21 May 12 16:18
lambert and rodgers they are just one season flavour of the month wonders, managing to keep a team in the prem is a totally different ball game to trying to manage a club into the top 4

Nilsson Schmilsson 21 May 12 22:28
brendan rodgers back in to single figures

turn down an interview you should be crossed off the list automatically

Can't Catch Me 21 May 12 22:31
Exactly NS.

duffy 21 May 12 23:04
Rodgers, martinez types are ridiculous options at the present, liverpool are a giant

GeorgeBrush 21 May 12 23:29
Unbelievable there are even considering striplings like Rodgers

G1 Jockey 4 22 May 13:09
ffs how can you have the likes of martinez or rodgers ahead of simeone.

REDUNDANT PUNTER 22 May 12 13:31
martinez. rodgers, lambert, et al, they should not even be consisdered, give what they have achieved and whats expected from the next man in imo

duffy 22 May 12 13:59
The problem that the likes of martinez and rodgers would have that an established top manager wouldn't ,is that they will get little respect from the players, when things go wrong the players would pretty much think ...who the feck are you anyway!!

REDUNDANT PUNTER 22 May 12 14:06
having someone like rodgers turning you down or martinez refusing it after an interview is like having your pants pulled down in public and getting a smacked @rse

REDUNDANT PUNTER 22 May 14:14
we must be at the point of barrel scraping - having to choose managers whose ability to stop a team getting relegated is seen as an achievement

Can't Catch Me 24 May 12 11:44
I cant get out of mind that Rodgers was sacked by Reading in the very recent past. He has one good season at Swansea.

However impressive that one season has been, its still only one season.

GAZO 29 May 12 15:11
the betting suggests its a straight fight between martinez and rodgers,if thats true and i hope its not then it shows you how far liverpool have fallen, these managers should be fighting out the villa job

vidou 29 May 12 18:37
If you guys had been told 6-8 weeks ago that KD is going to be sacked at the end of season and the club will be strongly linked with the Wigan and Swansea managers you would've probably buried your head in our hands and cried.

G1 Jockey 4 29 May 12 21:14
rodgers failed at reading and has only had one season in the premier league...for all we know swansea may go into freefall next season under ridgers if he is there.

its a really shortsighted of our advisors who clearly have not been keeping up with the world game.

ours4keeps 30 May 12 11:34
Not wishing to be the first of the told-you-so's but I do have reservations about both Rodgers and the DOF-Coach system.

Rodgers has had one season in the Prem after going up through the play-offs and has turned them into a solid mid-table team. So far, so decent. But we've seen this kind of managerial performance before, most recently from Owen Coyle. What would cement BR's credentials would be to build on last season and either cement or improve Swansea's position. It's a real gamble that he is the real thing and not just another 1 season wonder.

G1 Jockey 4 30 May 12 12:01
must have been some severance package coz rodgers will need 5mil to "prize" him from swansea.

feels more like 5mil for a chance to win a fair ground raffle

charwell. 30 May 12 15:25
I think the appointment of Rodgers is nearly as bad as Martinez. Sacked by Reading and did a good job at Swansea in a short time. HArdly the credentials for getting back to the top.

At least a big name manager could have used his influence and contacts to buy a better calibre of player. We have settled for mediocrity. No marquee signings and a payroll choc full of overpaid donkeys.

Never have I been so pessimistic about the forthcomign season. AVB would have been perfect but seemingly the Yanks want a cheap yes man.

G1 Jockey 4 30 May 12 20:01
its a very bad decision by the board.

imo we will pay a hefty price for this.

MilanBarosh 30 May 21:01
so here we have a young Oirish manager Brendan Rodgers...who's only claim to fame is getting Swansea into the prem via the play-offs !

now mr Rodgers is miraculously going to take Liverpool back to the glory days.

Benitez who has champions league and la liga titles...the current England manager Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish the legend...and now the Oirishman is going to do better than those three is he ?...IS HE PHUCK !

Its a strange choice tbh, esp when you look at previous managers with decent first seasons:

George Burley (2000/01 Ipswich 5th)
Paul Jewell (2005/06 Wigan 10th + League Cup Final)
Alan Pardew (2005/06 West Ham 9th)
Tony Pulis (2008/09 Stoke City 12th)
Alex McLeish (2090/10 Birmingham 9th)

Brendan Rodgers (2011/12 Swansea 11th)
Paul Lambert (2011/12 Norwich City 12th)

I mean those are all trumped by Kevin Keegan (1992/93 Newcastle 3rd, also 2002/03 Man City 9th) and would even he be good enough to get Liverpool top four?

I mean they should really have gone for Pulis if they wanted performance with a small club.  Four seasons in the PL, FA Cup final and a good showing in Europe.  Its easy to disparage managers like that because of the style of play, but I doubt he would play the same way if given really good players

everytime i see a liverpool fan posting that people are obsessed i post my reply as a jokey response. its interesting that you say ive used it "100 times at least" as it shows how often lfc fans use that expression. ive never actually counted, but if you say its that many i wont disagree.
regarding your other forum name, you seem very very similar to a so called united fan who uses the name pandorica (or something like that). every time someone posts a harmless joke about man utd he jump down their throat and tells them to stop posting (im not talking about the nasty stuff that sometimes appears on here, he reacts to the harmless banter from other fans). in the same manner when someone posts a harmless joke about liverpool you react in exactly the same way. even some of the language you use is so similar (if not identical) to pandorica that its easy to feel that you and him are really the same person on the wind-up.
