Stand to make a bomb on this love that he's into 1/2. Yes Villa are going to approach him and he is now there no1 target but there is literally nothing that would attract him away from Norwich at this time, esp not to Villa. Literally free money it's a mortgage job

Report goldenboy89 May 30, 2012 9:41 PM BST
A Slightly* bigger club. With worse players, critical fan's, old dead wood players, why would he put himself in that situation. He's bought good young players for norwich and we'll want to stick with them. He would of seen how bad villa were when his Weakened Norwich team beat them last game of the season he's not stupid he would'nt go there it's a fact

Even if they could Lambert would'nt. That's what dumb people like you don't understand he doesnt go out and buy big names or big price players from abroad he shops in the lower league's and gives them a chance. Norwich also have money now so he's gona stay unless some one big comes in. Sorry Villa fans your gona have to look elsewhere

You can't look at the last 2 years, we have massively under achieved! We are a top 10 club for sure, we were top 6 with O'neill and 2 extra players (Young and Milner)!

A decent manager with good ATTACKING tactics is what this club needs!

American ownership has never really caught on, imo.

For the money they've invested between them (Gillet, Hicks, Lerner, Short, FSG etc) they've had very little return.  I'd throw the Glazer's in, but I'm not sure they've ever really spent any of their own cash?

All successful businessmen - makes you wonder why they hoy money at a sport they know nothing about.

Report Soup or Stew May 31, 2012 7:56 PM BST
You can´t just say that Villa are not a big club because they finished below Norwich. Norwich are newly promoted, Villa are in forth position for the most trophies won by any english club, 1 of 22 teams that have won Europes most important trophy, are one of only a handful of teams that have done the double. This is big club history, goldfish brains are just looking at the 2011-2012 season. On that basis if Norwich finished in the top 4 I would assume they would start calling them a big club.
Report Hamsterdam May 31, 2012 7:59 PM BST

I'm a Norwich fan and I accept the writing is on the wall. It'd be difficult for him to come back now. I'm not sure if he wold have gone before the Norwich board refused him permission to speak to the Villa. Now, of course, I'm a Norwich fan so I'm going to want him to stay, and I'm going to say that he'd be crazy to go to the Villa which is a bigger club, granted, but not a happy one and not one that performs.

I did like the comment that the Villa have a 'sane' chairman! Remind me who appointed their biggest rival's boss their own? And remind me, how successful was it?

The only reason Villa have not been performing is because of the manager situation we've had the last 2 years, especially the year just gone.......before that we were playing great football and knocking on the door for a champions league place.........

......a new manager with fresh attacking ideas I'm sure will get us back to where we belong. Weather Paul Lambert will give us that is a different matter but i'll take him any day over the last idiot in charge!

Report viva el presidente! May 31, 2012 10:37 PM BST
that's the difference with the yanks.

unlike arabs and russians they come from a country where buying sports teams is common and virtually always done to make money, even  by the rich.
Report Solano1 June 1, 2012 7:40 AM BST
Yep, agree with that VEP.  Makes you wonder how they will get their return though.

- The Glazer's you assume will float Man U in the Far East.
- FSG will likely make some decent cash when they sell Liverpool, as they were able to buy it cheaply because of the mess G&H created.  When I say cheaply, I mean relative to what it would have been worth had it not been in a mess.
- As for Villa or Sunderland, who knows?  Villa's finances are in a shocking state and Sunderland's wage to turnover ratio isn't much better.

My point was, unless I am missing something surely these blokes can make a far better investment in an industry they understand ???
Report viva el presidente! June 1, 2012 4:14 PM BST
their thinking will be, "we understand sports investing, we've done it in america. this is a bit different, but let's factor that in and apply what we know."

FSG are essentially trying to replicate what they did at the red sox from what i see. rebuild the current stadium, look for undervalued talent to improve the team.

that second bit's where queen kenny put such a massive spoke in the works.

but their real problem, ironically, is other foreign owners. faced with oil money distorting the market and with none of the cost controls you get in american sports (salary caps and the draft) it's going to be very hard to make the financial success through sporting success model work. unsentimentally, they may decide that cost cutting and sporting mediocrity make for a better business model.
Report Solano1 June 1, 2012 7:20 PM BST
Some good points VEP.

Perhaps they were hopeful of FFP being a leveller - which I am becoming increasingly convinced that it wont be. Sad
Report viva el presidente! June 1, 2012 7:23 PM BST
you're right. FFP is just a cynical exercise in pulling up the drawbridge.

ironically, it moves the european cash cow closer to being the closed franchise system the likes of FSG are used to.
