Just read on twitter from a fairly reliable source @DuncanCastles that Villas-Boas is to have an interview with Liverpool but is not the front runner. WHo is the front runner? Is it Martinez or is he ina similar position? Will it be Rafa to come back?
"While FSG plan to interview Andre Villas-Boas for the Liverpool job am told that he is by no means the front runner for the position. #LFC"

Villas Boas seems like the obvious choice. Liverpool fans raged with the thought of Martinez and I'm guessing they won't be open to another similar type ie. Rodgers.
I'm sure there are good candidates willing to come but under the new setup and what is sure to be a ridiculous interview process you can see this ending up like a Terry Connor situation. If this process gets botched and drags on I'm sure they'll turn to Benitez to save their ass.

We all know that Villa Boas had problems at Chelsea but at previous clubs there seemed no problem. Terry et all have fallen out with a few managers to be fair.
It seems it was his mandate at Chelsea to get these players out & that was the reason of the lenghty contract. I can see similar problems at Liverpool although the more I think of it, it's just Gerrard tha needs to be edged out over time.

I think Carragher himself realises his time is up-particularly based on him after the Carling Cup. He could actually learn a bit from a manager now as I think that's the career route he hopes to take.

if they go for avb they do have to realise half the side isnt an "avb" type of player. they are gonna need replacing.
fine if they will stump up some cash but im not sure they will put enough into a project.
best option is to get a manager who has a tacical brain to ballance out the weaknesses in some of our players with not too much of a change to the squad.
rafa fits the bill so does simeone.
if they get an inexperienced one they are asking for trouble.

I actually Think AVB's style of football would suit the setup that Liverpool currently have.
The main advantage that Boas will have is that He will never have to manage John "I run the show" Terry ever again. Carragher is on the way out, and Gerrard is not fit enough to have too much influence on a manager anymore.

I agree AVB is the right fit. Forget what happened at Chelsea he was on a hiding to nothing. He won a treble with Porto, obviously no mug.
Forget Rafa they've already had a blast from the past with Queen Kenny...the owners won't go down that road again ...won't happen.
For amusement purposes I hope it's Martinez. RAWK would be comedy.

i still cant have martinez as fav. managing to just finish ahead of wolves and blackburn is hardly awe inspiring. Its not as if he got wigan anywhere near the top half of the table, which would have been slightly more impressive.

I suppose he did at least keep Wigan up (when they looked certs to go down with a few games left) with some impressive results, especially against some of the big boys (including Liverpool which seems to have not gone unnoticed with owners)

Geniunely don't get the fuss over Martinez. Yes they played brilliantly at the end of the season but does that hide the fact that for the first 5-6 months they were f*cking dreadful.
If Wigan's season had gone the other way round and started like a train but ended pathetically, he'd be looking at the sack.
Does your side really only need to play well for 2-3 months to get you considered for a top job?

His reputation has been their since his Swansea days, and the Wigan squad is hardly talented, he started playing with three at the back and the results followed, he is good with the press and young enough to improve as a coach, think that if AVB is in with a chance then Martinez must be a better option, Cappelo getting backed...

Freddie. It goes without saying his management abilities and football acumen are the most important, but after the PR disaster that was Kenny, I would like the new man to be good with the press and handle himself well.
Its something that is still a factor.

Media management is almost essential in the modern game, unless you win every game. If you don't every mistake is a calamity, every defeat a crisis.
Obviously it's not the main factor, but it is vital whether we like it or not.

Pardew has had a few reasonable jobs in the past and not impressed. One season at newcastle when the scouts have unearthed a few gems is no reason to suddenly think pardew is a top class manager.
Big red on Martinez here, big green on AVB as he is the only available manager that seems to fit what Liverpool need for me.

the midfield is either too wet behind the ears and the likes of gerrard cant put a proper shift in defensively only lucas has the right stuff in there. also carroll...no way would he fit in.

Pardew got a good job at the toon, a well run club with a few quid to spend but the fact the team have performed well this year is down to him and the coaching staff, have to give him credit for that. But why would he want to leave a nice cushtie job a poison chalice.

Pardew has absolutely no input on the players that are brought in.
If you had given any half decent Manager their current squad, I think they would have matched what he has done tbh. I'd have his current stock as the most over rated in the league myself.

dont think its wise to let an inexperienced type take charge....if fenway do they will be sacking them quite quickly.

having seen the absolute mess he made of transfers during his time at Charlton, i go along 100% with this point of view.

G1. Its statements like that that I'm on about. You are contradicting yourself. You keep banging on about Simeone. How experienced is he? 3 or 4 seasons in South America with up and down results and one good season at Atletico.

martinez on the drift again. i have been on betfair for less than 3 year but this is one of the craziest markets i have seen. i have never traded the same market over and over again in a 5 day time period like this.
the fun will have to stop tommorow though as i'm going benidorm on a stag do but suppose theres still time to improve position

yep sounds about right can't catch me. i think the latest drift on martinez has come from sky sports news revealing he hasn't even held talks with liverpool or told wigan he wants to. could hit 4.7 tonight perhaps

David Cameron for me. He has the experience of piloting a sinking ship. Plus, he'll take all the youth team's money and give it to Andy Carroll. Result = goals galore.

also if you have watched atletico in their league all season youd would also agree with me.
there was a mssive turnaround in how atletico performed and approached their games.

they are only bottom of the league scramblers because they are young managers, there aren't many young managers that start at the top straight away. If you look at the history of great managers they all usually started off at lower level teams, the question is can one of those young managers make the step up to a big team and make the next step, thats a judegment the owers have to take.
There are a few young managers like AVB who have won things and managed a big team but im sure you'll agree there are just as many risks with someone like him compared to someone like Martinez who hasn't managed a top team.

yes of course a lot of great managers started at lower sides but im sure by the time they came to a "name" they had worked their way up properly.
taking a step up imo for rodgers or martinez would involve getting someone like villa in the chamions league without major luck in the market....ie.to show their managerial ability got them there. either that or they win the cup
thats the bare minimum.
id want to understand how they got their teams playing.
id want to see a similar vein through each club.
not just take their last instance like we did with woy....saying that the appoinment of KK longer term was a bizzare choice.

We are going round in circles G1. You don't want to accept they may have asked and he may have said not interested.
I can hear you already.... A few months from now when things aren't going well. I said they should have gone for Simeone

What do they do if the first six say no? Change the look for a young Manager and start looking at the likes of Capello, Redknapp etc?
It's not fair to slag them off until we know what is happening.
I don't think you are listening to what I'm saying? You are still missing the point. Say they have a list of 10 for arguments sake. Say it went as follows:1. Mourinho2. Guardiola3. Klopp4. Simeone5. Bielsa6. Schaff7. AVB8. Deschamps9. Rodgers10. Mart
we know they have a list but why was martinez and rodgers on there?
truly bizzare.
they in no way fit the criteria of nay side who want to challenge for a champions league place.
they can have their vision but the downside risk increases when you start thinking of employing those types.
simeone deserves to be on the list if he is on it.

I think it would be negligent for any Premier League club needing a manager not to speak to either of them Jockey - throw Lambert in there as well.
None of them may ever make it right to the top or have the necessary skills to manage a club with massive expectations (time will tell), but taking it to the extreme, Fergie, Wenger and even people like Redknapp and Moyes all started their careers at lesser clubs before being given a chance in their respective top divisions.
Both Rodgers and Lambert managed to finish within half a dozen points of Liverpool, with sides that I'd wager had a third of Liverpool's wage bill.

And Martinez or Rodgers may be the best available candidates. We are, at best, the 6th best team in a very competitive league, with fans and a media base, with ludicrous expectations. The new man will be following the most popular figure at the club, possibly, of all time, and instead of their other recent hero. We probably have a limited budget and will be pouring millions into a new stadium in the foreseeable future. Our current squad is weak.
If I were an up and coming Manager on the continent, I don't think we would be my first pick.

I just assumed you were p*ssed, when talking about a new stadium etc. Surely you've already built a stand or two, with that £49m in the Accounts ???
On a serious note, a lawyer I use once told me that one of the biggest regrets of the Newcastle hierarchy was that they didn't allow Keegan to fail properly second time around. The theory being had they done so, there wouldn't have been the outrage when he went and significant ill feeling that followed.
FSG may well have that to face, and are obviously prepared to ride it out. I'd see that as a positive, that they have taken the big decision - not that it will help the new man in the short-term of course.

i do think AVBs silence on the whole matter has been quite telling. Normally an out of work manager like himself would be openly saying he would like the gig but he has been very coy sbout the whole thing. Im sure he's probably already met with the owners and they have agreed to not mention anything until everything is organised.

AVB seems the logical choice...winning more than 80% at Porto he hasnt become a bad manager since...just was unfortunate to manage a team with the likes of Terry and fat Frank...AVB by this time next week imo.

The confusing thing from a betting perspective is how true the rumours are of us going for a DoF and a Manager. Bielsa could be more suited to the former if the offer is right?

Think bielsa would be one of the fans choices. As his sides play very high tempo , pressing football. Avb agent said he wants a stable club. Is Liverpool that club??
