Fernando Torres has placed his Chelsea future in considerable doubt after admitting that he has endured the "worst moments" of his career this season and that he now wants to hold talks with the club's hierarchy.

The club's £50m record signing has scored only seven times in the Premier League since joining Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2011 and experienced a goal drought this season spanning more than 24 continuous hours of football. Even after winning the Champions League on Saturday, Torres made no attempt to conceal the unhappiness he has felt this season. He also claimed that he was stopped from taking a penalty during Saturday's shoot-out against Bayern Munich.

"This season I felt things I had never felt," said Torres. "I felt they have treated me in a way I was not expecting, not the manner for which the club brought me here. We have had many conversations and now the season's finished we will have more talks to see what happens in the future, because this is not the role for which I came and I'm not happy.

"All this makes up for it, of course. Right now, I do feel it's all worth it but the truth is I've gone through some very bad moments -- the worst moments of my career -- during the season, and I am not willing to relive those moments.

"There have been many ups and downs and many moments where I felt lost and I didn't know what to do and where to be. I want to thank my family, the club's owner, who's always supported me and backed me and, above all, the fans. If it wasn't for the fans, many times this season I would have thrown in the towel."

It is significant that Torres has had such personal backing from owner Roman Abramovich, but it appears that he now wants clarity about both the managerial situation and whether Didier Drogba will stay.

Although Torres has been given plenty of opportunities, the past three Chelsea managers, including Roberto Di Matteo, have favoured Drogba for the crucial matches.

Torres did not come on until the 84th minute on Saturday when Chelsea had fallen one goal behind. There then appeared to be a disagreement between Torres and Di Matteo over who should take penalties in the shoot-out. "I wanted to take a penalty but they didn't let me," Torres said.

The Spain striker was also deeply disappointed to be only a substitute as Chelsea fielded what was largely a containing 4-5-1 formation.

"I felt huge disappointment when I saw the starting line-up, maybe the biggest disappointment of my life," he said. "What I was thinking when I came on was we had to win. What we were lacking was attack. We were wrong to conform with 0-0 and they punished us with (Thomas) Muller's goal. In the end, I was able to play a bit and help the team. I felt it's one of my best moments.

"The ideal for me for next season is if someone tells me what's going to happen. What role will I have in the team, what function is expected of me and to evaluate if it is worth it."

Torres goes on holiday to Ibiza today and faces an anxious wait to discover whether he has been selected for Spain's Euro 2012 squad. He believes that he can have a major impact this summer for the reigning world and European champions.

"I'm hoping I will be in it feeling better than ever and with greater desire than ever," he said.

"Football is like that, many times when you feel at your best is when people count on you the least. I've now won the Euros, the World Cup and the Champions League. We had a star or an angel, or whatever you want to call it, that the team didn't have in Moscow."

I would rather let my gran take a penalty then him Crazy

Torres wanted to take a penalty, manager overruled him (as he has the right to do), Chelsea won on penalties, Torres gets a Champions League medal. Torres should be grateful.  The bigger question now is where will he go.  His comments combined with his contribution this year clearly spell the end of his time at Chelsea but, who's going to want to pay his wages for a return of a handful of goals each season??

Would he get more game time at any of the top clubs in England? Or Spain? or Germany?  If he wants to play week in week out surely he'd have to move to a club aiming for 4th-6th spot.  That rules out a return to Liverpool, what other options in the EPL?  Fulham? Everton? but again, it then comes down to whether wage demands could be met :s

torres 0nly wat 27 28. still can get bak to his best. is he in spains squad?
Report Kevin65 May 21, 2012 1:27 PM BST
Bhoys - yes he's in the squad.  Not sure how much involvement he'll have though.  I don't believe he'll ever get back to his best as he was at Liverpool - he's showed very limited signs of real talent/confidence in his sporadic appearances for Chelsea over recent years.

wat game was it he turned down a pen? his confidence is shatterd. i hope he gets back 2 best but not v us at euros
Report YOMOMMA May 21, 2012 1:39 PM BST
Chelsea will want to offload him in the summer but no one would buy him if he took a pen and missed it on top of the season he's had so Di Matteo did the right thing obviously. It's best for Chelsea and for Torres if he moves on.

I bet when he moves the fee is undisclosed or a swap deal.

They shouldn't have mentioned that he was off to Ibiza on holiday. Bound to be mobbed by fans everywhere he goes.

didnt torres turn down the chance to take a penalty sometime around easter?
Report Biscuit1979 May 21, 2012 2:21 PM BST
If Drogba goes then i can't see them getting rid of him too.

If they sign Hazard then Torres should definitely score a few next season with service from him, Mata and Marin.

He can't be going to Ibiza for very long, he's got to join the Spain squad in Austria on friday. Hardly worth going especially as he'll miss Space on Sunday!!

Yes.  He turned down the chance to take a pen in the cup replay v Birmingham when they were already 0-2 up.  Sturridge took it and missed.

Report _Pedrito_ May 21, 2012 3:25 PM BST
Wasn't it Mata who missed. Mata asked if Torres wanted to take it but he said Mata was designated penalty taker.
Report berto77 May 21, 2012 3:28 PM BST
Sorry yes.  Sturridge tried to grab the ball.  Mata missed.

a selfish reaction from a selfish ****.....perhaps if he had put in a few decent performances over the season he would have come in for consideration....he didnt,he wasnt....case closed
Report duffy May 21, 2012 3:38 PM BST
i remember earlier in the season when chelsea had a pen and mata offered it to him and torres didn't want to know.
Report duffy May 21, 2012 3:39 PM BST
oops, been done already.

I suspect Torres will be at Chelsea next season and Di Matteo wont.

I cant believe anyone actually believes that Di Matteo had anything to do with Chelsea winning the CL. This genius manager was sacked by WBA for being all kinds of carp - he is merely a spokesperson for Terry and Lampard - they tell him to jump and he very politely asks how high.

Mourinho had more to do with the CL victory than Matteo did.
Report Biancoceleste May 21, 2012 5:03 PM BST
Terrible attitude after Chelsea shelled out 50m for him, if that isnt a belief in someone what is? He needs to look in the mirror as to why he was left off the pen list
Report TheBetterBettor May 21, 2012 5:05 PM BST
im surpised ashley cole had the nerve to take and score a penalty
Report scaredmoney May 21, 2012 5:06 PM BST
for all of Cole's faults, he usually delivers when the pressure is on
Report high_lander May 21, 2012 5:33 PM BST
No way Di Matteo gets that job.
Report baddreammama May 21, 2012 5:50 PM BST
Torres never took a penalty at Liverpool and didn't take them at Atleico either, and it was well known even then that he didn't take them. The man is full of ****.
Report 1st time poster May 21, 2012 6:00 PM BST
torres golden rule is that he doesnt take them if he is the man fouled for one to be given, which means rotating penalty kickers if he wants to take one,so it more often than not means they dont bother asking the question
Report McNulty May 21, 2012 6:01 PM BST
He took one in a pre season game for Liverpool........ and missed.

From what I remember his record at Atletico wasnt great either.
Report tegz May 21, 2012 6:14 PM BST
