My approach to betting on football is to bet very selectivly and this has done me well over the years. I only bet when I think the price is right.

If I was pricing up Spurs in this game I'd have them a 4/7 shot. I've seen a bit of Villa lately and they look just about the worst team in the league. Their midfield is at times non existent and they pose very little threat in attack.

Yes Spurs have had a dodgy run but that win at Bolton will have given them a huge lift. They are right back in the hunt and look to be nearly full strength.

This is the biggest football bet I've ever had.

One swallow dosnt make a Summer Mr Eboue......was it 10 away games with out a win before Bolton?
Something like that i believe, that would be enough to put me off a large bet. I agree, they should win but have a few negatives about them.

Good luck Sir
Report mafeking May 4, 2012 10:15 PM BST
the fact that they're called aston villa will keep the price up. a less high profile team with villa's form they'd have been a fair bit shorter

think we've only been shorter than around 1.8 once away this season - 1.65ish at swansea on new year's eve when we were absolutely flying and they rested a few.
Report Mr Eboue May 4, 2012 10:17 PM BST
If Spurs were away at Wolves they'd be 2/5.

Villa are so demorolised and I genuinly think at this moment in time they are on a par with Wolves.
Report Crisp77 May 4, 2012 10:20 PM BST
Villa will be up for this after a couple of pints.
Report mafeking May 4, 2012 10:21 PM BST
they don't ship many goals though, Mr E. wolves have given away at least 2 virtually every game under connor. 0-0 is still a big runner in any villa home game
Report mafeking May 4, 2012 10:21 PM BST
and spurs have had 3 0-0s in the last 6 or 7 aways. unders on goals an absolute banker

Bolton beat them a week ago ffs!

Arsenal 3 - 0 Villa
Man utd 4 - 0 Villa
Villa 2 - 4 Chelsea

Score one and the floodgates will open Mafe.

Villa 0 - 3 Spurs

if i lay spurs now i look like this tottenham £83 draw £0 aston villa £0.

if i wait until kickoff i look like this. tottenham £185 draw £0 aston villa £0

spurs are huge and will be further backed in when villa team news comes out with carl baker , chris herd, eric lichai and steven warnock in midfield all starting. 1.75 for me now at kickoff some bookies already have 8/11Grin

Aston Villa should not be beaten this time. Man U will win the title and Chelsea will eventully be given the opportunity to lift the cup. The que is finally over for themGrin

i'm naturally cautious though. i have a horrible feeling about newcastle beating man city.

even with the respective fixtures i'd take going into the last game just needing a win to secure 4th and then get behind zee germans.

Worth remembering Villa have drew 16 games, that's almost half their matches. If this match is a draw you lose your bet.
Report Knight Rider May 5, 2012 1:24 AM BST
Problem is Villa are a very different proposition to Bolton, who set up in an open 4-4-2 and attacked.  Villa will be a very miserable, defensive opposition, not something Spurs tend to do well against.  Can easily see this being a 0-0 or 1-1 or 1-0 with Villa scoring a scrappy set piece goal.
Report emeraldg May 5, 2012 1:30 AM BST
Prefer the unders.  Villa are a different proposition to Bolton as they are more solid at the back.  Don't really fancy them to score though tbf.

Wrong. Villa have the better goalkeeper

I'd rather have freidel - Given is too small and therefore always stuck to his line - he's a good shotstopper but i think his shotstoping looks better because of his lack of height ie someone like Cech would not have to throw himself around as much as Given to make the same save

Villa have played 5 out of the top 6 at home this season; they have lost all of these games except one, which they drew with Newcastle 1-1. Going a bit further down the table, they have played 7 home games against the current top 8, losing five and drawing two, against Everton and Newcastle.

(following games at Villa Park):

Man City 0-1 L
Man Utd 0-1 L
Arsenal 1-2 L
Chelsea 2-4 L
Liverpool 0-2 L

Spurs haven't been great away from home, but coming off a good win at Bolton, I'd expect us to get a result against Villa.

Aside an away win against Chelsea (which seems to be a freak result), the bulk of Villa's wins have been against sides in the lower quarter of the table. The middling sides, they draw a lot of games. The top teams, they tend to get beat home and away.
Report mafeking May 5, 2012 11:01 AM BST
and most unlike us we've generally put the dross to the sword this season. think it's 9 wins out of 11 against the bottom 6

have i missed something maybe roy hodgson has been sacked and harry has been appointed england manager or maybe darren bent has returned for villa.

anyway lets hope for a big drop now i am playing football at 10:30 when i return i hope to see some movement.

I'm with you on this I backed them yesterday @ 1.91 and they are even bigger today.  Now Rednapp has Lennon back and playing on the right wing and Bale has been moved back to the left wing they looked back to the form of the 1st half of the season.

Villa are truly awful with dressing room / manager issues.  This is a big play for me as well I've just gone in again with my winnning for the cup final.  Spurs won't let Arsenal off the hook again and they will nail them for 3rd now.  Of course if Spurs don't win this Arsenal will find a way of messing up at WBA (Hodgson's last game)Sad.  The saving grace for Arsenal is no way will Chelsea beat Bayern Munich.

agree the price looks wrong, i agree Villa have the ability to defend well for long periods but it only takes 1 moment and Spurs have 4 or 5 players of producing it. Both teams have maximum motivstion but Spurs so much better all over the field.

It's got nothing to do with it, what has gambling on Spurs today got to do with loyalty to another team exactly?   From a pure betting POV they are completely disconnected.  A disciplined gambler is ideally suited to back in markets in which they have a strong understanding of form.  I've done it successfully for years.

In this case the added bonus if Arsenal's 3rd place aspirations are snuffed out today is the solace of picking up cash on what is clearly an exceptional price.

morning rob managed to trade the 2k out at 1.98 around 35 min before kickoff. dissapointed with not making any profit this was me at kickoff.

villa=+£0 draw=+£0 tottenham=+£10Laugh.

but i did mention low risk trade in my thread so although i did'nt make anything the price did go down to 1.86 on two separate occasions over the last couple of days so there was a chance to make a trade but i didn't take it. tbh i was expecting spurs to be 1.8 at kickoff
