were they calling him the best when he lost 5-0 to barca, 1 win against barca and now everything has turned, what about those other 5 smackings he recieved from pep, people are so stupid the hop on any train as soon as it stops.

Barca looked jaded the past 3/4 games and do not have the seasoned pool that Real have and it showed last night,even so it took a fluke goal and some poor finishing again by Barca to lose the game,the better teams have sussed Barca out just play 11 men in your half of the pitch and you will in the course of the game get a couple of chances,with a couple of bits and pieces of luck and hey presto you are an amazing coach,you are totally outplayed for 85mins of the game and snatched victory your masterplan has worked.

Nobody seems to notice that Real's success this season is almost as much to do with a slight decline from Barca as anything from Jose. I'll repeat myself, but Pellegrini got 96 points and 102 goals with them, so it's not like Jose was taking over a team of mugs. Barca just happened to get 99 points that year. This season, they won't get that because they have declined and Real are going to win it.
It's taken two seasons for Jose to polish up Pellegrini's side a bit, but more importantly, that's how long he's had to wait for Barca's form to drop off. Pellegrini would have won La Liga this season too, imo. He might have even managed it a year earlier than Jose. Jose has waited it out. Now what's the betting that should Barca re-build and come back stronger, Jose would be off somewhere else, just like when Fergie did it at Man Utd to overhaul Chelsea? He's like Tony Blair; he'll stay in charge for the good years then hand the keys to someone else when it's all about to turn to sh1t. An admirable self-preservation technique. |

You can dismiss my point to bask in the reflected glory of a former manager of JAIL-SAY FAMOUS SAY-EFF-SAY...but it doesn't change the fact that the output of Madrid's team isn't much different to what it was under Pellegrini, except for 2 things: 1. Pellegrini broke their record points total in his first season. 2. Barca were more consistent in the league and got 99 points. As for staying around when things go bad, well, he doesn't does he? He's a brilliant manager and incredibly successful. But it isn't the special one who has conquered Barcelona, he couldn't do it when they were too consistent -- like Pellegrini couldn't. He's had to wait for them to drop down a notch and, as I said before, I think Pellegrini's side would have won La Liga this season. Jose just happens to be there when Barca have slipped. Pellegrini must be a bit gutted he was only given one season (and got more points than Jose did in his first season with Real Madrid). |

I don't know if I would say best ever but he is certainly a winner. I'm not fond of his style of football, he leans towards the defensive, stuffy, difficult to play against. It's certainly not open expansive attacking football. But then again neither am I a huge fan of the current Barcelona side, whose style while attacking, doesn't have the elegance and beauty of the great sides from the past, like Brazil '70 and '82 or Netherlands '74 and '78 for example.
Back to Mourinho, he is very effective, virtually guarantees success if he gets enough money to spend. Not sure if he could do it on shoe-string budget like SAF at Aberdeen for example. Won the CL with two outsiders, especially Porto who were 50/1 I believe. It's quite an achievement and have no doubt he will win the CL more times with other clubs. He doesn't ever seem to stay in one place very long, so we have no idea if he can rebuild multiple winning sides at the the same club, like SAF has and Bill Shankly did. |

Mourinho is definitely a winner but surely style of football is important too. I would much rather watch a Rinus Michels, SAF or a Jock Stein side play than a Jose side. If he can play good attacking football and win, then he could be the best, but for now I will stick with Michels as best ever, as much for his beautiful style of football as his ability to win.
