hey 3PP, what are your thoughts on the 2.9 odds to lay greece to qualify from their group. i put 500 on it as i thought it was a good bet, and now Wenger has said that they have no chance of qualifying.

Frankly I don't see that bet as value personally. A quick look at odds checker shows the price drifting out over the past week and the majority of money on betfair in that market is currently laying Greece @ 2.84 with very little looking to back which should tell you where the market is going. The lay price on offer is 22% bigger than the price offered by the vast majority of bookmakers and I can see the betfair price going over the 3.0 mark before the first match kicks off on the 8th. The vast majority of the Greek team ply their trade in their domestic league which is quite a weak league so going by stats alone on each players domestic achievements will be quite skewed as the internationals they face in Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic by and large play their football in more competitive leagues. Looking at Greece's last 10 games they have played some very poor opposition and their only notable achievement is a 2-0 home win over Croatia, both goals coming in the second half from scrappy corners amid a backdrop of serious crowd trouble that caused the game to be stopped a few times. Greece played at home against Poland in March last year, granted it was a friendly, however in my opinion Greece have become a weaker team since then and Gekas (highest scorer in their squad) is no longer the player he once was since coming back from international retirement and Poland since then have strengthened and I would have Poland as favourite against Greece when they meet on the 8th, currently evens generally. The Czech Rep. are a very unpredictable team but on their day they will beat Greece, not by much, I expect a close match but I would have them favourites by a shade. To sum up, I see the 2.74 currently on offer with Betfair for Greece to finish bottom to be better value than the 2.9 on Greece to qualify. Good Luck. |

Cheers, I knew I wasn't getting the best value but it appears to be a good bet based on the information you have given and several other opinions.
I will be placing a bet on Greece to finish bottom, maybe 750 possibly with a view to lay it after the Poland vs Greece game, which I expect will be a Polish win. |

ye luckily i traded out on that, unluckily i thought i saw an opportunity in the russia 1st poland 2nd/russia 1st czech republic 2nd markets, if either had happened i would have 200 quid more.
