Under the rules Reina had to go but newcastle fans should be ashamed of perch - first the cynical trip and then clutching his face when any contact was very minimal. Thing is, it is already forgotten, barely mentioned in the meeja and it will happen again very very soon. The answer is fairly simple - retrospective reds for simulation' and a charge of bringing the game into disrepute and 3 game ban - same for Carroll. It will only take a few bans to sink in.

there was contact , therefore you can't guess at how much a player was injured by it. impossible to police. can't give someone a ban for conjecture.

It was quite clearly a red card. Reina should know better.
Yes Perch should be embarassed, but I reckon almost every player in the league would have reacted like he did. Just a sign of the incredibly sad times. We cant deny that every single one of our outfield players would have done the same, so I dont see the point in moaning about it. I just hope we dont appeal. I actually think we are one of the worost teams in the league for this now. Kenny seems to have taken his own self pity and transferred it to his players. |

Totally agree with all that CCM.

What an absolute pleasure (i even corrected your spelling before copying) to see the truth from a red for a change. Good luck with your hoss next season CCM. |

I was once head butted in an amateur match with significantly more force than Reina / Perch. It chipped a front tooth but it never occurred to me to go down because it didn't hurt.
However much contact yesterday, perch was not hurt. It has just become the norm for players to exaggerate injury to influence the ref. I know they won't do it, but perch, and others doing the same thing, should be hauled in front of the disciplinary panel and get a ban. That would soon stop it. |

i see a bit of realism creeping in here. of course most players would have gone down , but why????????????
COULD IT BE THAT THEY'RE NOT CONFIDENT ENOUGH IN THE REFEREE TO MAKE THE CORRECT DECISION THEREFORE DOWN THEY GO GIVING HIM A DECISION TO MAKE? I reckon that is somewhere near the mark, and therefore the refs have to take an element of the blame for the amount of diving going on.. when i was a kid the perception was that a defender had to half kill a forward before a penalty would be given. many a time forwards were kicked to high wycombe and back in the area but if they stayed on their feet and got a shot away, even if they were terribly off balance the defenders were not sanctioned. recently it's been deemed that it's ok to go down on contact, and that's become accepted. BUT HOW MUCH CONTACT? SO DOWN THEY GO. some now "look" for a contact, or [worse still] initiate the contact. and the great and the good of the world of punditry pontificate that there was contact, therefore it's ok to go down, therefore it's a pen. perch knew there was contact. he also knew that the way the game is refereed nowadays that is considered violent conduct. so down he goes giving the ref a decision to make [some might say refereeing the game himself] ensuring reina gets his "deserved" red card. compared to a few years ago refereeing the game in the penalty area has been turned upside down. as i said earlier contact with the feet had to be outrageous to get you a pen, but there was no contact with the hand/arm. nowadays the slightest contact with the feet is deemed a pen whereas you can pull the shirt off somebody but there's no sanction. yesterdays episode would not have gotten a second glance. RANT OVER. |

By:
you can't ban players for going down as you are guessing how much it hurt the individual. if there is contact of course.
|
|
By:
No-one is guessing. He wasn't hurt, that is obvious from the footage.
|
|
By:
perhaps increase bans to 6 games for putting head in someones face and the initial aggression might not occur. at the end of the day football is an emotional game and in the heat of the moment things happen that in hindsight people would do differently.

dead right mate
there was contact. and it would be pure conjecture to say that perch over dramatised the effect of that contact. no matter what you might think. |
|
By:
your opinion berto , i think its guessing to actually ban a player for simulation if contact has been made, how many times have you seen a foul, eg an elbow where it actually looks like minimal contact yet the injury sustained is horrific.
|
|
By:
If a panel of 100 people watched the incident, I think 99 out of 100 would think the player exaggerated the contact.
If they don't introduce retrospective bans, how can it be eliminated from the game? |
|
By:
It will be eliminated when other players stop sticking their head in other players faces.
In the meantime, players will continue to go down. |
|
By:
if they introduce retrospective bans for divers and all other miscreants within the game we'll be watching 5 a sides .
|
|
By:
players who appeal for throw ins they know arent theres should be banned
