cancer, the modern day epidemic. When young(ish) super fit sportsman are contacting as readily as oap's, it's time the cancer funding went towards investigating the source of this, not just looking for cures.

Won't happen though, Big phamecutical companies are quite content with selling drugs to deal with symptoms. Prevention is entirely contrary to profit margins, and after all, they own the politicians.

Yes if that were to happen we would need to do something drastic.
As it is about 100 oap`s get diagnosed with cancer for every young sportsman so your alarmism is way, way of the mark.

It is scary when these super-fit guys get taken ill -- it shows how fragile life can be for all of us.

I hope he gets well.

I loved Stan at Celtic. Get well soon. I'll say a prayer for the young lad.

Unfortunately "super fit" does not mean healthy. The intense physical and mental pressure associated with top class sport actually often weakens the immune system.

You could do something a lot more usefull than posting on here if you feel strongly, give a blood sample to Anthony Nolan with a view to becoming a donor if needed.

All the best to Stan - thankfully Leukaemia has a relatively decent prognosis these days but it does require lots of treatment Sad

He's a top bloke as well (I know that's always said in these circumstances but he genuinely is)

Yes thats true chances are better than ever, but it does require the likes of you and me to be on the bone marrow donor register. Its a saliva test not even a blood sample, link here
