CROWD trouble today forced the postponement of the Greek derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, as rioting broke out in the stands and supporters set fire to seats and threw missiles.

Referee Tasos Kakos halted the match at the Olympic Stadium between first place Olympiakos and second-place Panathinaikos in the 83rd minute of play when rioting broke out for a second time after halftime disturbances.

Olympiakos were winning 1-0 from a goal in the 51st minute by French-born Algerian midfielder Djamel Abdoun.

At halftime, dozens of hooligans attacked police, with initial reports saying 57 people were rounded up and six arrested for possessing firebombs. Four police officers were injured in the melee, two of them seriously.

The start of the second-half was delayed by 50 minutes until the violence subsided. Fighting continued outside the stadium as a number of ticketless fans tried to storm into the stadium, forcing police to use tear gas.

Firebombs, broken plastic chairs, plexiglass and fire extinguishers were thrown and fire crews were called to extinguish seats that had been set ablaze.

The referee's decision to call off the match means a decision will now be made whether to replay the game or award the points to Olympiakos.

The home team Panathinaikos also face a heavy fine and a possible deduction of points.

Some 60,000 fans attended the match, all of them from Panathinaikos after a ban on Olympiakos supporters in anticipation of crowd trouble. Fears of violence also saw a temporary fence erected around the pitch.

bet365 voided all the bets, i was on olympiakos, but still got to accept it, coz in football , anything can happen till the last second, yesterday levante scored a last second goal, so it would be correct to void al the bets in that match.
