guys i hate to say this but if ur still being defriblilated 30 mins after your heart has stopped its gone... i cryed when i heard what had happened... football, gambling, trading and everything are put into perspective.

Well said disco.
Really does put things into perspective and shows how trivial our pursuits really are. Hope to God he pulls through |

Its not gone obviously or the news he's dead would have been out long ago!
|
|
By:
Dr I hope you are right but im judging from logic here not hope...

I have no clue how Fabrice Muamba is and don't want to speculate but a defibrillator isn't used after the heart has stopped. It stops the heart beating. That's the whole point of defibrillation.

Sadly we've probably lost him. If he were alive we would have heard. Next of kin being informed at the moment before anyone else and rightly so. :(

Sadly we've probably lost him. If he were alive we would have heard. Next of kin being informed at the moment before anyone else and rightly so. :( A bit premature for such a conclusive statement, you never know, he may be alright, |

I don't think they'd put anything out till they'd told the family, and they obviously couldn't tell the family till they'd given up all attempts, which would be some time after there was a realistic chance of them succeeding.
so I fear the worst at this point. |

Looking at Hamsterdams comments on the other thread, he's a forum crank/troll whatever..he'll be loving situations like this!

I haven't posted an opinion. It's a medical fact. That's what defibrillation does. It stops an erratic heart beat or flutter completely. The heart stops for a short time to allow the heart's own built-in pacemaker to kick in again, hopefully with a regular rhythm.

Very unlikely all the signs pint to him having passed away. No news is bad news in these situations. On this occasion I'd love to be wrong.

on the other hand we were only one of 20+ million sperm racing towards the same egg. all the others died and we were lucky enough to win. we basically won the euromillions there so we are lucky to be simply breathing at all and should pay respect to the millions of our brothers and sisters who never got the chance at life that we got. for that reason, i am generally always in a good mood because i realise how much of a freak occurance my existance is. times like this just reinforce that perspective

Its not gone obviously or the news he's dead would have been out long ago!
not really, you have to inform the family of the poor man before you release it to sky sports news ffs |
|
By:
Defibrillation is a common treatment for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation, and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. Defibrillation consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the affected heart with a device called a defibrillator

Disco what paramedic/medical qualification do you have???..please dont say first aid!
|
|
By:
Defibrillation isn't used to get the heart to start after it's stopped.
It's used to stop a heart beating that is beating inefficiently or irregularly. As you said earlier disco - cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation, and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. |
|
By:
What you think you know is wrong, Pandorica is correct about defibrillation...

Bob Holness played the sax...

By:
Modern defibrillators are fitted with a safety mechanism that prevent them being used on a patient whose heart has stopped.

The longer we go without hearing news the more likely the worse has happened. If he is revived we will hear news immediately, but if there is no improvement, they will spend some time telling the family before alerting the press.
