guys i hate to say this but if ur still being defriblilated 30 mins after your heart has stopped its gone... i cryed when i heard what had happened... football, gambling, trading and everything are put into perspective.

Well said disco.

Really does put things into perspective and shows how trivial our pursuits really are.

Hope to God he pulls through

Report Pandorica March 17, 2012 7:56 PM GMT
I have no clue how Fabrice Muamba is and don't want to speculate but a defibrillator isn't used after the heart has stopped. It stops the heart beating. That's the whole point of defibrillation.
Report Hamsterdam March 17, 2012 7:57 PM GMT
Sadly we've probably lost him. If he were alive we would have heard. Next of kin being informed at the moment before anyone else and rightly so. :(

A bit premature for such a conclusive statement, you never know, he may be alright,

I don't think they'd put anything out till they'd told the family, and they obviously couldn't tell the family till they'd given up all attempts, which would be some time after there was a realistic chance of them succeeding.

so I fear the worst at this point.

Looking at Hamsterdams comments on the other thread, he's a forum crank/troll whatever..he'll be loving situations like this!
Report Pandorica March 17, 2012 8:00 PM GMT
I haven't posted an opinion. It's a medical fact. That's what defibrillation does. It stops an erratic heart beat or flutter completely. The heart stops for a short time to allow the heart's own built-in pacemaker to kick in again, hopefully with a regular rhythm.
Report Hamsterdam March 17, 2012 8:00 PM GMT

on the other hand we were only one of 20+ million sperm racing towards the same egg. all the others died and we were lucky enough to win. we basically won the euromillions there so we are lucky to be simply breathing at all and should pay respect to the millions of our brothers and sisters who never got the chance at life that we got. for that reason, i am generally always in a good mood because i realise how much of a freak occurance my existance is. times like this just reinforce that perspective

Report disco10 March 17, 2012 8:01 PM GMT
Defibrillation is a common treatment for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation, and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. Defibrillation consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the affected heart with a device called a defibrillator

Defibrillation isn't used to get the heart to start after it's stopped.
It's used to stop a heart beating that is beating inefficiently or irregularly. As you said earlier disco - cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation, and pulseless ventricular tachycardia.

Generally, responsibly - if you go to the right sources. You're not one of those.

I posted what people were saying on the net and it turned out to be TRUE!

Because a meat packer reported it as if he had a hotline to the ambulance. Now he may have had a friend who is a paramedic who was in the ambulance and who then phoned said meat packer to tell him that the patient was breathing. Meat packer then goes to an obscure football forum to post the news. This is a possibility.

It's also a possibility that the said meat packer was a moron making up a story for attention - that you promptly gave him.

Of the two possibilities, I tend to favour the second.

Might be worth pointing out on this subject that a forumite on here who "has a mate who's a Sky reporter" posted that Muamba had died.
