"Footballers and officials have been stopped from gambling on any league match, even if their team is not involved.
And they can’t bet on a game in a cup competition their club has been entered in, even if they have been knocked out" Someone care to explain why? Why on earth can't a league 2 player have a bet on City v United if he wants to? Pathetic rule. The FA should concern themselves more with sorting out the centre of excellence that we've been waiting about 10 years for or looking at our sh*te refereeing week in week out, instead of worrying about John Smith of Macclesfield betting on the Merseyside derby. |

Although its not clear, my reading of the article is that a player could bet on a league game as long as its not the league they are in, and therefore have some influence over. Otherwise the story would just have been 'banned from betting on all English football'.
If it is the case that anyone employed by a club can't bet on a competition in which they are involved, I think that's fair enough. But difficult to enforce. |

Yes i see how you have drawn that conclusion, but I think it could be the way the sentence is written. Reading the man utd quote at the bottom suggests its just competitions in which they are involved.
You might be right, just saying i didn't the ban quite as widespread as you. |

Vaguely interesting. Seems they think travel agents may be involved in match fixing. "A player is offered and accepts a week’s holiday from a local travel agent if his team loses. The player is in breach of the rules as he has accepted a gift from someone seeking to influence the conduct of a match" |

“With immediate effect there is now a strict prohibition on betting on any match in any competition in which we will, are or have played in this season or future seasons.”
I take that to mean that your club could be involved in any domestic league, cup and European competition in the future and therefore would be banned and only allowed to bet on foreign domestic league and cup competitions. |
