you are assuming england will qualify. I can see them losing to france and drawing with the ukraine and a very poor sweden

tucky, heres a question, if we field these promising youngsters you speak of, and leave out the failures, what do you think we will achieve?

Flea, I think england/france 1-1 draw, beat ukraine 3-0 and beat sweden 2-1

I've no idea why the OP is so certain we will win the group anyway. France played us off the park and beat us at Wembley last year, why will the Euro's be any different?

If England get out their group they will have to beat Spain or Italy. Not going to happen. The idea that this "promising group of youngsters" are going to do better than Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham and Terry managed at their peak is laughable.

Any country that has Pearce coaching their youth team should stick to knitting rather than football

England will struggle to get out of the group. Where are the goals going to come from with Rooney banned for the 1st two? France, Ukraine and Sweden will be no pushovers.

England have got past the Euro's group stage just twice in history (in 1996 and 2004).

They've have NEVER won a single knockout match in 90 mins and ET (although they did of course get through the quarters in 96 on penalties v Spain).

I hope I'm wrong, but with doubts over most of our best players, I wouldn't fancy us to do that well.

Unders probably a good call in most the matches depending on how we play.  At least we know who's money we won in the Spain friendly when Super Frank scored the winner.

previous tournaments do not matter, its the future that does.

Who will score the goals while rooney is out? Walcott, Bent, Carroll, Defoe, Oxlaide Chamberlein, Young etc etc.
By:

Those 5 players you've mentioned are rubbish and bar Defoe who has decent spells from time to time can't even hack it in the Premiership. Carroll is one of the worst "forwards" I've ever seen play. He's only scored a handful of goals and most of those were in cup competitions against lower league teams.

Well I have so little faith in the English side I have opted for France to win the EURO 2012 @ 16/1. I have a fair bit of money on it and with Rooney banned, Capello stepping down, Issues over captaincy, questions over JT and the racism row and the persistent faith in the older lot (gerrard, lumplard, rio, terry and cole) makes it hard for me to believe England can win. France seem a great bet to lay at least, they will surely get out of that group.

As a previous poster wrote this side will be a real force for 2014. Players like Joe Hart(who will certainly take captaincy at some point) alongside Rooney, Phil Jones, Kyle Walker, Jack Wilshere, Daniel Sturridge, Andy Carroll, Danny Welbeck, Adam Johnson etc..

When: 21 Feb 12 17:54
I assume this was a response to me? The list certainly is longer with players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Rodwell, Marc Albrighton, Micah Richards as other off the top of my head suggestions. I am sure you will be quick to shoot some down but as a squad they have a lot of young players coming through with good potential. Let's not forget players such as Rooney/Richards/Milner are still mid 20's players with a lot of impact for England up to 2020

if england field their youngsters though woozie then they can win it
By:

When: 21 Feb 12 17:57
agreed woozie, if england didnt field the oldies like lampard/gerrard etc, how far do you think england can get this tournament?

or is too early for the youngsters to make an impact?
By:
The Magic Flea
When: 21 Feb 12 17:58
they don't play like a team. Players are irrelevant. Look at the last teams that have won major championships. Italy and Greece won purely through teamwork. Argentina on paper has the strongest team yet they get nowhere. Germany rebuilt their team, but still managed to reach the final in 2002 with the crappiest team of all time.

This attitute is missing in England, and Capello was getting it under wraps. These youngsters you mention have the speed, but generally run around like headless chickens

flea, theres nothing to say that these youngsters wont work as a team and achieve more than the previous lot
By:
The Magic Flea
When: 21 Feb 12 18:03
ofcourse there is. They are in the U21 team under the management of a tactically inept bloke. In their specific teams they are used to playing with extremely skilled foreigners in specific roles. Group them together and they just boot and chase the ball forward

YOMOMMA - I am certainly not patriotic either. I am born and bred Welsh looking forward to a Triple Crown on the weekend. I am can see though that there is talent in that England squad. Don't get me wrong I love players like Stevie G but there days are numbered. Parker has proved he still has the bit between his teeth. Kyle Walker, Phil Jones and Oxlade are certainly players that deserve to be in that starting squad come EURO 2012 though. Be nice to have Wilshere(if fit) and Milner involved there too.

And in answer to Unique19 I cannot really forsee a scenario where England will ever beat Germany or Spain but all it takes is to get the ball rolling. A new manager and feel good in the camp must be a good thing. I was never Capello's biggest fan.

england did well in the u21 championships.

we'll see, if we field the youngsters then england has a chance of success this summer.
