cud it be that perhaps teams just park the bus alot more this season and just cant break them down as easy not to mention alot of injuries this year also rotation and villa there most natural finisher out

Dawsy, if this Barca team as they were playing now played United this weekend how would the game go do you think?

its not the quarters and its not lovely, its quite boring because there is no intend most of the time. much of the posession is near the midfield line.

I loved the way they used to play. But I am a realist; the magic has gone and they are now mere mortals.

Barca this season have had alot of injuries and key players being out. Teams have also worked out Barca's main weakness is in their defence.

carsten.....the more they pass and the longer they keep possession the more the gaps appear and can be taken advantage of...

for me it si a superb philosophy and their intent is an end product....sometimes it is easier than others but the intent and philosophuy is always the same.

To be fair to Nobby, some of the barca players are on the decline. Puyol looks like he has lost a yard of pace and his general play tonight has been utter dogsh1t.

Puyol and Abidal look on the wane to me, not surprising given their age.

Some of the others are just off form. They'd still murder Man Utd though

I said the other day that it stands to reason a side that has been as successful as they have can only go one way. They can't keep on winning everything.

Having said that though, almost all season they have had injury problems with Pique, Puyol and Iniesta in and out of the side and also Villa out for the season. That's 25-30 goals gone from the side straight away with Villa missing.

These things do tend to go in cycles though, Madrid in the late 50s, Ajax and Bayern in the 70s, the great Milan side in the 80s, then the Real galacticos with Zidane a few years ago. Now it's Barca's turn. It may well be downhill from here on but make no mistake they're still the world's best side. The only side close to them is Real and they haven't beaten them in 5 meetings this season.

Nobby, did you not see them v Arsenal away last season? They have always had it in them to give the ball away and ship a couple of goals in the away game of the tie. Tonight was polished by comparison.

you are right meadway....the consistency has dipped....but the quality and class is still there for all to see.

Meadway - Many things have contributed to Real Madrid being ten points clear and not least that they have been the better more consistent team overall.

Other factors like form, tiredness and injuries have effected Barcelona in the last six weeks.

They could still win five of six trophies available this season and be the first team to retain the Champions League.

If they do that then there can be no argument that they have gone backwards.

They are not playing as well at the moment. However there is always going to be a dip in form. Hard to keep as motivated. Also missing Villa. In saying that they would destroy any premership side. I don't them due to their diving antics but they are a great team. Have a feeling they won't win the CL this year. Mourinho is getting closer and he always finds a way in the end.
