Alan Curbishley favourite across the board.

Interesting others:

- Steve Bruce best priced 8/1 with William Hill
- Rafa Benitez at 14/1 with Victor but only 7/1 with William Hill?
- Alan Shearer at 14/1?

Manager markets can be fascinating when they change a lot!

That isn't what I have said, obviously the club sounded out the options.
I also accept most of the names thronw about had some sort of contact about the job.
That is a long way from being offered it.
The club want to appoint someone with a long term plan, and no one wanted to take the job until the end of the season without wanting big money.
That has left us with no other choice.
TC knows the system and players , that leaves him as the best option available at the moment.
Report Bradders February 24, 2012 11:02 AM GMT
Sacking Mick was probably inevitable, sadly. 3 wins in 23 games says it all. Whilst he's had some success in the transfer market he's also made quite a few duff buys.

The players haven't been doing it for quite some time and the performance against WBA smacked of a team who weren't playing for the manager.  5 years ago we lost 6-0 at home to Southampton, yet that team didn't stop pushing and trying, that showed a lot of fans what a "Mick side" would be like. Against WBA there was nothing of the sort.

The main mistake was doing it without having any idea of what Plan B (or C) would be, let alone reaching plan Z!

Moxey and Morgan have been made to look pretty damn inept over this.  Making offers to seemingly Bruce, Warnock, Curbishley and Smith, whilst sounding out goodness knows how manyothers, yet ending up with the previous Number 2. As said above, they have conducted this like a business interview.

I wish TC all the best, he'll need it!

The rules are extremely clear.

By your logic, if Connor had taken over this weekend and then been replaced, they should payout on Connor?

No - the point is that Wolves have been around the houses trying to find a Manager and spoken/approached (whatever) the world and his wife, clearly with no intention of offering it to Connor.

Now, they have given it to him.

Quite blatently, that is because they can't find anyone else. Want evidence? Try the quote at the start of the process, saying 'this job is not for a novice'.

I agree TC was not considered at the outset.
What puzzles me is why the board were so insistent on only giving the job until the end of the season, no worthwhile manager is going to risk that unless they are paid a lump.

This all reminds me of when Paul Jewell left Bradford and Chris Hutchings was promoted to manager on the basis of him being an excellent assistant and coach.  We then got resoundingly dícked on for the remainder of the season and plummetted through the divisions.

At least Wolves seem financially secure and so won't go into administration.  Twice.

Some amusing quotes from Morgan.

Having spoken to a number of people we have drawn that process to a close and myself and the board are unanimous that Terry is the right man to lead the club for the remainder of the season.

Does this mean that the intention was always to appoint someone until the end of the season?  In which case it's not hard to see why so many turned their nose up at it.  Or is it a case of trying to save face and make out that this was the plan all along?

Agreed Luckyman..............the only scenario in which Connor would go is if the results are dreadful. But if the results are dreadful and relegation looks ever more certain, there is not a snowball in hell's chance of them hiring anyone even vaguely sensible. This is a done deal.
Report Pounf February 24, 2012 11:20 AM GMT
I am staggered its come to this. The two muppets kept McCarthy on too long, should have gone before the transfer wiondow, so that the new guy has a chance to amend the squad, but that would have cost money. Now they get rid and dont have any kind of coherent plan to replace him.
They run the club as a business, and what happens on the field is secondary to that. I believe Moxey had a huge bonus last time we got relegated, as the club had done ok financially. This tells you all you need to know about their motivation. McCarthy had to go not because we lost to WBA, but because the early bird season ticket sales had opened, and they thought with him in, sales would be low.
I am going to get behind Connor, because apparently he`s a decent guy, and I suspect he has been coerced into this. Wolves are my team and that will never change, lets hope he can get the players to respond, because they havent exactly covered themselves in glory either.
Report brngtwt February 24, 2012 11:21 AM GMT

That's very funny, especially for a blue nose Laugh

As for the comments about these huge losses his businesses are about to announce, that's not the case:

Redrow welcomed back Steve Morgan, its founder, in 2009 to restore the housebuilder’s focus on high-margin family homes. Mr Morgan has delivered an 80 per cent surge in pre-tax profits, led by strong sales of higher priced two-to-four bedroom homes that lifted operating margins by 190 basis points to 7.5 per cent.

Profits of £15mil are not to be sniffed at, especially in these tough times for the building industry.

What I would say is that I think Morgan is focussed on THAT business rather than the football club.  The stopping of Phase 2 of the ground redevelopment was to put money into the Academy redevelopment. A part of that £50mil scheme (only £6mil or so from Wolves) is the development of 55 executive homes by... Redrow Homes!

Even if he fails - is Bruce really the most likely to step in, given all that has happened?
Report berto77 February 24, 2012 2:33 PM GMT
Absolutely no way on earth they could appoint Bruce having overlooked him.  The board would make themselves look foolish.

The only circumstances in which a Connor back could lose is if all three of things happen:

a) the results are really bad.
b) they still had a chance of staying up (whether there are 10 or 4 games left).
c) someone becomes available who could step in (possibly someone they've approached but it wasn't right for them).

It is very unlikely but not impossible for an 'experienced' man to come in alongside Connor if it looks like he need help as perhaps a Venables type figure as a 'football management consultant'.  It would then depend on the job description ie who is picking the team as to whether the market was settled.

All unlikely but not unthinkable.

As incredible as it seems Connor will probably stick around.  By the looks of it they want a younger manager (Poyet? or whoever) to come in fresh at the end of the season.  Nobody will likely come in now to attempt to save them for this season.  Bruce appears so desperate though if they can muster up the courage to drop Connor he might even take the job till the end of season.

They should really just seek out an older head who's desperate to get back into the game and offer him the chance to steer them clear of safety.  As is the team appears destined for relegation.
