I think a listing of all the dead cert, full bank job, free money bets that went South might be a good idea, to reveal to all the mugginess of some of the 'key' contributors to this forum. A couple of classics have occurred, so early in the year too:

001 Wade to beat Lewis (Darts) - Millionaire_Morse
002 Man City to beat Sunderland (Football) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter
003 MK Dons to beat Brentford (3-0 up 1.01 busted) (Football) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter

This will be a simple list as a reminder throughout the year, and will sometimes contain 'epic' quotes / boats from the mugs themselves e.g. more bitter seethers here to watch me win again. i the top pro here there's no way i can lose. sorry mugs wade is a cert. [Millionaire_Morse].

And another..

'with the free cash thats on offer for a City win, ive got my eye on a new pair of real leather, tan coloured winklepickers, i'll be getting them out of part of my winnings.' [I_McHunt_Pro-Punter]

Yet more...

'MK Dons are just coasting, don't worry lads their are plenty of extra gears if needed.' [I_McHunt_Pro-Punter]

Maybe we can even have a vote for mug of the year, based on this list. Laugh

Keep 'em coming!

Highlights of the Mug Punting Year:

JANUARY

January started well, and after a couple of bets came one of my personal favourites, as one of the forum legends I_McHunt_Pro-Punter posted up MK Dons to beat Brentford @ 1.01, when leading 3-0 with about 30 minutes to go. Still chuckle at the ineptitude of that one, and it was one that the mug punter had several seethes at during the early part of the year.

Some other highlights of January for me were:

007 Pittsburgh Steelers to beat Denver Broncos (NFL) - tiny dave

In true sensationalist fashion, our new entry to the charts confidently proclaimed 9.15pm Free Money Shot.

Tebow has appaling passing record, as much as i like the whole tebow type he's out of his depth vs an elite side

Sadly Tebow (yes, he of the appalling passing record) wins the game for Denver with an 80 yard touchdown pass in overtime!

Sadly again, quoting tiny dave:

but im not being greedy 200 on 1.28 will do me

As they used to say in Tiswas....."this is what they want".

010 Estudiantes Tecos U20 v Club America Mexico U20 2.5+ goals (Football) - Totalavailable0.00

A 2nd appearance for tonight's MUG.

more free money for my followers over 2,5 is a free money bet @ 1,9x

Overjoyed with the early goal (goallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll  ), a call was made to the local hostelry of ill-repute calling prostitutes !!!! yesssssssseuros

Final score 0-1.

Another scramble ensued to call the hostelry of ill-repute "Have the prostitutes left yet......no? Thank heavens for that....now, where's that Ocean Finance advert when you really need it?".

The mind boggles!

Keep 'em coming!

014 Espanyol to beat Mirandes (Football) - Totalavailable0.00

After losing his house in Mug Bet 12 above, the Master of Mugginess, Totalavailable0.00 crawled from his cardboard box under Waterloo Bridge, fished a stray dogend out of his hair, ripped off a chunk of cardboard to fill the hole in his shoe, and headed off to the internet cafe with his final £1, to log on with his visionary bet.

My final chance for redemption he thought. Dead cert time...only one result, this one will be the one that gets me my credibility back, and after that...the World!

'Espanyol @ 2,30 immense and incredible value'

espayol play in la liga ( best league in the world )
mirandes play in la liga C ( scottish league like )

END OF THREAD

Well, Mirandes hadn't read the script, and yes, you guessed it, ran out 2-1 winners, despite their pre-match comparison with Stenhousemuir! So where does that leave us...oh yes, I'll quote the lyrics of the Lyndsey DePaul & Mike Moran track from the 70s:

"Where are we? - Rock bottom
Tragedies? - We got 'em
Remedy? - Why don't we
Rub it out and start it again"

Keep 'em coming!

015 Barcelona to beat Real Madrid (Football) - Totalavailable0.00

Although it's only really a rather damp, musty cardboard box / packing crate, the assertion tonight from everyone's favourite MUG, was that 'MY HOUSE ON BARCELONA TONIGHT'.

An additional boast of BARSA IS TOTALMENTY FREE MONEY ALL THE WAY OF THE MILENIUM

Of course, final score 2-2.

Instead of rejoicing with whiskey and prostitutes, Totalavailable0.00 has now been forced into prostitution, and drinks lighter fuel.

Keep 'em coming!

And that was it for January. There were some Epic Seethes from Totalavailable0.00, along the lines of:

•    joci mug club, i hope this help YOU ARE A BIG MOTHER ****
•    JOCI Club idiot ask my bank (Ocean Finance did tell me he was their best customer)
•    JOCI Club    you mug do you know what is back ? and lay ? 2 questions for you :question 1.- are you retard ? question 2.- are you idiot ?
He disappeared shortly afterwards, and I wonder did he ever return under a different guise..........

Highlights from February coming soon............

FEBRUARY
More highlights from the MUG PUNTING year:
018 Sunderland to beat Middlesbro (Football) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter

Missing in Action!

I_McHunt_Pro-Punter does a runner, a la AH Hunter after a Chelsea defeat, following yet another humiliating mug bet hits a dead end.

Oh yes, King of the Mugs, I_McHunt_Pro-Punter shouted from the rooftops "DEAD CERT ALERT >> WEDNSDAY, THIS IS HOT STUFF".

"2.14 IS A STEAL. SELL YOUR GRAN IF YOU NEED TOO, JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH ON.

The number of toothless old haridans sold into the slave trade in the last several hours, and all for what.....diddly squat!

Our favourite mug proves yet again he's unable to tip a wheelbarrow, but you never know, throw enough darts and all that!

Keep 'em coming!

027 Hantuchova to beat Goerges (Tennis) - tgkaplan1970

The football forum has been relatively MUG free in recent days (have they seen the error of their ways)? Or have they simply decamped to another forum in an attempt to escape my clutches. That may be the case, as one of my 'informers' alerted me to something on the tennis forum, by a familiar 'name' on here, tgkaplan1970.

██ DANIELA HANTUCHOVA IS FREE MONEY

So confident was he in his free money prediction, that he was seeking thanks from his followers in advance of knowing the result.

"no no no try thank me later"

"i only try to help".

Another glorious failure, and I can't help but speculate as to whether tgkaplan1970 is actually an employee of Ocean Finance who has been 'planted' into the forum, to give out ridiculous losing free money bets in order to increase their supply of penniless mugs applying for loans.

You decide!

Keep 'em coming!

So, February was actually a very quiet month for the MUG bet, so much so that we actually had a few wannabe mugs trying to get in on the act, without actually putting in the effort to come up with a truly muggy bet. They were swiftly turned away of course.

March to follow.........

Been doing this thing the last week playing 2, 3 or 4 leg multis - all short so a total price anywhere between 2.1 and 3. $100 a pop, going very well, 8 wins 6 losses so a profit margin of about 38%. This one I'm not so proud of:

  Soccer  1.51  Lost
   Italy- Coppa Italia
   Lazio v Siena
   Home/Draw/Away
   Lazio

   Soccer  1.52  Lost
   Italy- Coppa Italia
   Udinese v Fiorentina
   Double Chance
    Udinese or Draw

   Soccer  1.4  Lost
   Italy- Coppa Italia
   Napoli v Bologna
   Home/Draw/Away
   Napoli

Not sure what I was thinking, just wanted to bet, and as soon as I clicked confirm I regretted it. That was a mug bet.

028 Wolves to beat Man Utd (Football) - aaronh

The Boy Who Cried Wolves

One upon a time, a little shepherd boy called aaronh was sha....sorry, tending his sheep on the mountainside. Suddenly, he had a vision and ran down the mountainside and into the village of Betfairia, where the villagers were going about their everyday village lives.

Villagers, the Wolves will beat Man Utd today, cried little aaronh. Free money!

"We (Wolves) always play well against the top teams and obvious (joint) bottom always beats top".

LUMP ON

Now of course, the Betfairian villagers were used to people coming into their village spouting b0ll0cks, and took no heed of this free money nonsense, even though many of them could do with some.

No fairy-tale here of course, as Man Utd handed out a comprehensive drubbing to the Wolves who slunk away to have another crack at the house of the Three Little Pigs!

Free Money Wolves 0 v 5 Man Utd

Keep 'em coming!

030 Man City to beat Stoke (Football) - Far From Trouble

I'd like to start by saying that this will probably be my favourite of all time, and the forum's, and possible the World's biggest MUG might have revealed himself to us tonight!

Step forward the deluded Far From Trouble.

Here we go (another inevitable forum name change to follow):

Bet of the century

MAN CITY AT 2.2 (TWO POINT TWO) TO BEAT STOKE (LOL)

STOKE

STOKE

SOME NO-MARK TEAM FROM BIRMINGHAM

CITY THE BIGGEST AND BEST CLUB IN THE WORLD, WILL NOT, OR SHOULD I SAY, CAN NOT BE HUMBLED BY THIS POOR EXCUSE OF A CLUB

I JUST CAN'T STOP LAUGHING AT THE MUG LAYERS
- crying now, I suspect!!

And then, of course, Stoke take the lead with a wonder strike from Peter Crouch:

CITY HAVE BEEN DOMINATING THIS GAME AND SHOULD BE 1.27 AT BEST

I'LL TTT THIS LITTLE BEAUTY LATER ON WHEN I CAN BRAG ABOUT WINNINGS (Haven't noticed the TTT yet.....probably scouring bins for some left over fish and chips after doing his conkers).

CITY TURNED THIS AROUND AGAINST MASSIVE CHELSEA I'M CURTAIN THEY'LL DO IT AGAINST LITTLE STOKE - happily, it was curtains for this mug instead!!!!!

This has to go down as one of the most embarrassing tirades of all time!!

036 Man City to beat Sunderland - (Football) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter

Another one from the 'respected' professional, who is soon to be inducted into the Epic Mug Bet Hall of Fame, due to both the quantity and quality of MUG bets.

>>> DEAD CERT ALERT >>> DOUBLE BET SPECIAL

Before I continue, I must admit my concern over what might be the start of a series of copy-cat MUG bets! That would be serious indeed! Let's hope I'm wide of the mark.

Not just one MUG bet, but a twin MUG bet extravaganza today.

(1) Man City to beat Sunderland
(2) Man City clean sheet

So here we go:

THIS IS THE FIRST BET FOR A WHILE, BEEN TOO BUSY SPENDING THE PROFITS FROM THE PREVIOUS WINNERS, ITS JUST THE LIFE OF A PRO.

Translation for newbies: "Been waiting for the unemployment benefit to come through".

NOW AS AN ADDED BONUS, BACK MAN CITY TO KEEP A CLEAN SHEET, VINCENT KOMPANY RETURNS AND WHEN HE'S IN THE TEAM CITY ARE USUALLY VERY TIGHT AT THE BACK AND DON'T GIVE A LOT AWAY.

Update: Man City concede 3 goals at home!

THIS IS A PROFESSIONAL STING

I_McHunt_Pro-Punter then did a Lord Lucan, and hasn't been seen since.

Now, How do you spell W-O-N-G-A

Keep em coming!

A late entry from a Quatari friend khhinji!

It is a FREE money guys in QSL Al-arabi vs Al-sadd khhinji

I'm 100% sure about Al-sadd victory tonight they want to finish this of before the international break
as we know al sadd are in form and they never lost in the first round 11 win out of 12 al arabi struggling with their team and they have change 3 managers from the binging of this season

Try to put as much as you can in al sadd because they will repeat their victory earlier this season the game will start NOW ,and don't forget to thank me

However, things didn't pan out as the OP expected, with Al Arabi taking a 1-0 lead, and things took a turn for the worst, when they extended this lead to 2-0.

Despite this, khhinji re-assured all the people who had followed his advice, and gone in baws deep with:

I'm Qatari and I'm an expert in this league

Al sadd will win this

No doubt, hopes were raised when Al Sadd pulled one back, but these hopes were cruelly dashed, as the home team eventually romped away to a 4-2 victory.

Now, indeed those who had loaded up their full bank on As Sadd, were now All Sad Devil............the OP might have been from Quatar, but this really stuck in the throat of those now wandering the streets homeless after their life savings were destroyed!

Never mind...the OP will just need to find another oil well!

043 Man Utd to beat Wigan (Football) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter

There's a new king in town. King MUG!

It was Epic Mug Bet 035 when we last saw this MUG punter, and he's been away for some time (a) crying and (b) trying to scrape together the minimum £10 deposit to place another Epic Mug bet.

Well, he's surpassed himself again....here we go....several of you will be familiar with this story:

>>> DEAD CERT ALERT >>> FREE GIFT FOR ARMY OF FANS.

Then we had the usual nonsense about his followers, all of whom are now bankrupt, on the streets and have their best meal of the week at their local soup kitchen.

I KNOW THAT IVE GOT A HUGE FOLLOWING HERE, ITS QUITE HUMBLING REALLY. ANYWAY, HERE IS A FREE GIFT FOR MY ARMY OF FANS, THIS IS A 5PTS BET, FOR THOSE CLUELESS MUGS THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT 5PTS MEANS IN RELATION TO BETTING, ITS 5 X THE NORMAL AMOUNT THAT YOU PUT ON.

GET ON MAN UNITED TO BEAT WIGAN

1.44 IS AN AMAZING PRICE, SNAP IT UP, NIP OUT AND GET A CURRY THEN POP BACK TO COLLECT YOUR WINNINGS LATER.

When I did my public duty and reminded fellow forumites that the OP was a grade A MUG, I was rebuked with the following:

THIS IS A PROFESSIONAL TICKLE THATS TAKING PLACE ON THIS THREAD TONIGHT, CAN THE SMALL FRY LIKE JOCI CLUB PLEASE FIND YOUR OWN THREAD, THIS IS FOR BIG HITTERS ONLY.

Naturally, against the odds, Wigan beat Man Utd.

The coup de grace was when the MUG came out with the following:

SORRY FOLKES, I NEED TO APOLOGISE

I DIDN'T REALISE THAT OUR LOCAL CURRY HOUSE ISN'T OPEN ON A WEDNSDAY, WITH THAT BEING THE CASE I HAD TO ABORT THE BET, DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO POST AND LET U KNOW. IF ALL THE KEY FACTORS ARE NOT IN PLACE THEN I DON'T GET INVOLVED.

ANYWAY, NO HARM DONE, LEVEL ON THE NIGHT SO WE'LL ALL JUST HAVE TO WAIT TILL NEXT TIME FOR ONE OF MY SPECIALS.

Well, let's thank the Lord that no damage was done eh!

Now then, spare a thought fellow forumites, next time you pull up at a set of traffic lights, and some wild eyed, dishevelled, halitosis ridden, unwashed urchin slaps a damp infested rag on your windscreen, and demands £1 for his services, there's a very good chance it will be I_McHunt_Pro-Punter trying to raise his next deposit.

Turn him away for his own good, and do not encourage him.

For some reason, this person springs to mind...

050 Real Madrid to beat Bayern Munich (Football) - DARLOisBACK

Knock, knock, knock.....a hand with dirty fingernails, chewed to the quick, raps frantically against the heavy wooden door.

"Open up, it's me again...DARLOisBACK."

"Please, it's cold, and I don't have a shirt on....I lost it tonight on the Champions League! Real Madrid bastards!"

He looks up, through greasy, matted hair at the sign above the door.

Salvation Army!

"My home" DARLOisBACK sighs lovingly.

The door opens, and a soldier of the SA welcomes this dishevelled street urchin into the Lord's abode.

"You been eating donner kebabs again Darlo?" asked the soldier...."Come on, let's get you cleaned up.....tomorrow's another day."

"Don't suppose you have £9.49 so I can scrape together another deposit....Barca are going to do Chelsea tomorrow night. Full bank job!".

"Well, I think that could be arranged Darlo.....now then, let's get those trousers down!  "

So, another typical day comes to an end for arguably Betfair's worst ever punter, DARLOisBACK.

So, here's the story:

@@@@@@@ REAL MADRID IS A BACK @@@@@@@

maybe the best team in the world and you want lay madrid ?

How many neurons do you have? back real madrid

put house tomo on real madrid and green out when madrid goal...

a cert 10000000000000 % sure

follow me or you will cry

In an attempt to justify his MUG bet, Darlo lists the following reasons why this is the best bet ever:

do you know what is LA LIGA ?

do you know who is REAL MADRID ?

do you know what is FIFA ?

do you know 500 millions person want madrid - barsa in the final ?

do you know what is FIX ?

do you who is CRISTIANO RONALDO ?

I just ask you one thing....do you know what the score was?

Bayern Munich 2 v 1 Real Madrid.

Did you red out?

051 Barcelona to beat Chalsea / Lay Chelsea (Football) - DARLOisBACK

Unfortunately, JESUCRIST was busy in goal for Chelsea, repelling all attacks!

All of which leaves DARLOisBACK's P&L redder than his rusty sheriff's badge after last might's romantic rendezvous at the Sally Army! More of that tonight now again! And more donner!

059 Man Utd to beat Man City (Football) - MisterWinner

MisterLoser is back, and will doubtless be on a huge seethe-fest after he's exposed once again!

█ Man City v Man Utd █ NAILED-ON AWAY BANKER █ Live & In-Play...

Rooney and co to bring home the League Title, and the bacon.

NAILED-ON AWAY BANKER

Well, of course, victory for the home team, and another bank busted. But what did you expect, for possibly the worst tipster on here (after 1.01(Busted)Mc_Hunt_Pro-Punter).

One of MisterLosers follwers added his thoughts shortly afterwards:

"f off you cretin"

Hardly a glowing commendation. MisterLoser then promptly disappeared again, for a massive seethe. We'll see hmi, again shortly after he's done a bit of busking!

Must be gutted to have been outed / exposed by the return of the real MrWinner!

THE MERRY MONTH OF MAY MUG PUNTING:

May was a magnificnet MUGFEST with some of the alltime classic MUG PUNTERS coming out to play.

062 Chelsea v Liverpool Lay of Chelsea (Football) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter

The forum's losingmost punter chalks up another Epic Mug bet for us to enjoy!

>>> DEAD CERT ALERT >>> FA CUP FINAL SPECIAL

THE BET IS TO LAY CHELSEA @ 2.7

Ultra-confident as ever, Mc_Hunt boasts about his supper of choice from the winnings:

I'LL POST THE TAKE-AWAY DETAILS LATER AS I KNOW THAT A LOT OF MY FANS FOLLOW MY TAKE-AWAY TIPS AS WELL, IT WILL PROBABLY BE A CURRY TONIGHT OF SOME SORT.

ITS AN INDIAN TONIGHT TO CELEBRATE THE WINNING LAY ON CHELSEA, IT WILL BE A BEEF ROGAN JOSH ACCOMPANIED BY A COUPLE OF KEEMA NAN BREADS, A COUPLE OF COBRA BEERS AFTER THEN CHILL OUT COUNTING TONIGHTS WINNINGS.

Of course, he's the man with the minus touch, Chelsea won quite nicely, as everyone else knew they would, and an Epic Mug Seethe was witnessed, much like a child's tantrum:

ANYONE WOTH A FULLY FUNCTIONING PAIR OF EYES COULD CLEARLY SEE THAT LIVERPOOOL WERE ROBBED OF A PERFECTLY GOOD GOAL, THAT SHOULD HAVE FINISHED 2-2

Later that same evening...........

"Curses! I hope them in the bedsit next door are having lasagne again. They usually do Saturday nights. Usually Marks & Spencer too.....finest range or something. How can they afford that? He must have a job!! Anyway, cos they microwave it like, there's always plenty of tasty bits left sticking to the cellophane when they get rid of it. Got a good few licks off of it last weekend, after doing my conkers again. Mind you, the Jack Russell from flat 14 beat me to it last time, and I had to put up with a bit of dog saliva too! Chelsea b@stard mugs!"

He turns woefully to the cork notice board on the damp peeling wall, and salivates at the picture of a lamb rogan josh on the cover of the Taj Mahal take-away leaftlet. It's a little faded and discoloured now, as it's been there, unopened since 2003, the last time Mc_Hunt managed a win.

"Fook it, I wonder if Stavros at the kebab van will let me do him a "favour" again tonight, so I can get a few bits of left over kebab at shutting up time?". "Must be worth a try, but the salty taste stays with me for the rest of the night".

"And some mug has put up some stupid video about me on the intranet - the git". "When I get enough for the electricity meter again, I'm going to log on to Betfair, and tell them I greened out....".

Keep 'em coming!

066 Liverpool v Newcastle Lay Liverpool (Football) - TheFormMan

By wait a minute.....do my eyes deceive me? Has the evening suddenly taken a turn for the better?

Well, well, well!

The(OutOf)FormMan is back with another MUG bet! Would you believe it.....well, of course you would!

LAY Liverpool at 2.38

This is very straight forward

We had there number in the cup and we will have there number again tonight! [Oh no we won't]

We played them off the park for 60 minutes till we got bored and let them back in it just to tease them

We are champions league finalists after smashing up barcelona and bringing pep to quit!

We have a squad of superstars that can score goals for fun and we are facing a bunch of wasters that cant score for sh1t!

FOLLOW YOUR CHAMPION FORUM KING OF PROFIT AND JOIN ME IN YET ANOTHER HUGE WINNING THREAD

THIS IS A FULL BANK LAY!

And this all based on this piece of cutting edge analysis:

Carroll and henderson starting, this will be an easy lay tonight - Carroll played well and a constant threat, and Henderson scored.

His FULL BANK LAY was a big LOSER!, as we come to expect.

Now....wait for it, what did we have next......

I actually managed to green out for a small profit early on after ivanovic hit the post

The only thing green about you tonight Sonny Jim, would have been the colour of the shoite in your undercrackers, after seeing another bank decimated.

Bread and water til benefit day!

Now, the final analysis:

I give you...The FormMan.....

Darts - MUG

Horseracing - MUG

Football - MUG

I think there are only a few more other sports safe from him at the moment!

074 3:10 Longchamp Dabirsim to win (Racing) - TheTipsMaster

WARNING!!!! TAKE THE 6/4 NOW!!!!! HURRY!!!

There is a true superstar in the making running

His name is DABIRSIM,he is already a 2 time group 1 winner at 2 and has won 5 of his 6 career starts,he would still be unbeaten but for a terrible ride from the jockey last time up,this colt has class written all over him and is a champion racehorse of the highest order

Tomorrow he will win and he will win well,i advise you back him and back him with large sums of money, dont be the person to miss out on this racing certainty

This horse needs no big build up,his form speaks for its self and if you dont take this free money opportunity, then you truely are a mug of the highest order

this will be my biggest bet of the year so far and i expect this to be very very easy work for DABIRSIM

It all sounded very very confident, didn't it, and TheTipsMaster came back again to say:

i will not be posting on this thread again till 3:15pm tomorrow and that post will be just to confirm that DABIRSIM bolted up in the 2000,you have all been told,so please dont come crying after he wins and you were not on

So, let's examine the facts:

Race Result: Dabirsim failed to make top four (maybe finished 5th).

Post race Assessment: An Epic Seethe from TheTipsMaster.....

never ever back a horse that has a totally MUG/JOKE jockey onboard it and the guy (Soumillon) is pure comedy hour

So, it must be very hard to take that....

my biggest bet of the year turned out to be his BIGGEST LOSS OF THE YEAR!, which is shame, as it more than wipes out all the gains from finding a couple of winners yesterday. Another bank OBLITERATED, and Ocen Finance will be doing a good trade early doors Monday morning!

There is another positive end to this post, and that concerms my own finncial situation. I also was keen on Dabirsim, and had backed him to win. However, after finding out that he was tipped up by TheTipsMaster, I laid the cojones off him, and ended up winning a tidy sum from TheTipsMaster, so I have to say "Thanksyou very much sir!".

Filet steak tonight I think!

077 Bayern Munich to beat Chelsea (Football) - ImAllIn

Still chuckling from MrWinnerReturns' seethe on here last night, when my attention was grabbed by another epic!

I HAD MY HOUSE ON WESTHAM, NOW ALL ON MUNICH!

I guarantee it. Munich to lift the trophy!

Homeless now....reminds me of...

Sitting on a park bench
eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot is running down his nose --
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
ImAllIn
Drying in the cold sun --
Watching as the frilly panties run.
ImAllIn
Feeling like a dead duck --
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
Whoa, ImAllIn

Sun streaking cold --
an old man wandering lonely.
Taking time
the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
as he bends to pick a dog-end --
he goes down to the bog
and warms his feet.

Feeling alone --
the army's up the road
salvation a la mode and
a cup of tea.
ImAllIn my friend --
don't you start away uneasy
you poor old sod, you see, it's Chelsea!

080 Bute to beat Froch (Boxing) - I_McHunt_Pro-Punter

You know the saying "You can't keep a good Mug down"......we'll today's entry proves it's nigh on impossible to keep the world's biggest MUG down, however stupid they are, or how much ridicule is heaped on them, their need to feed their own egos drives them to post more and more attention seeking drivel.

You may have seen the Robert Bolt play, or the 1966 big screen remake by Fred Zinnemann of "A Man For All Seasons". My sources tell me Spielberg is interested in making a 2013 version, starring I_McHunt_Pro-Punter, and I've suggested he calls it "A MUG For All Forums".

But I digress....

>>> DEAD CERT ALERT >>> GOT A BUTE OF A BET.

MOST PEOPLE ON HERE WILL KNOW ME BUT FOR THOSE THAT DON'T I'LL QUICKLY INTRODUCE MYSELF, I'M A PROFESSIONAL GAMBLER AND WELL RESPECTED FORUM MEMBER THATAS HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS OVER ON THE FOOTBALL FORUM, MY LAST BOXING TIP WON SO DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS BUTE'Y.

ANYWAY ONTO THE BET, BACK BUTE TO BEAT FROCH.

....NOT BEEN CONVINCED BY FROCH........HIS HEART ISN'T IN QUESTION, HIS CLASS IS.

BUTE HAS COME ACROSS VERY CONFIDENT TO ME, HE WOULDN'T BE COMING OVER IF HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO LOSE, TOO MUCH AT STAKE FOR THAT.

ENJOY THE WINNINGS

Now, McHunt is taking a big risk by handing out dud mug bets on the Boxing forum, as it wouldn't surprise me that p1ssing off the patrons of that pugilistic paradise could lead to him being dumped in the Thames wearing a pair of concrete slippers. Did I just hear a chorus of "hurrahs" from the forum?

A little into the fight, McHunt came out slugging (which, incidentally was more than what Bute came to do)....

WHEN BUTE WINS CAN YOU REFRAIN FROM SAYING YOUR GREAT, YOUR THE BEST, BEST TIPSTER ON HERE ETC AS I GET ALL THAT ON THE FOOTBALL FORUM.

And in another outburst of pure bravado:

I'M NOT HERE FOR THE PRAISE, I'M HERE PURELY FOR THE FREE CASH THAT THE NUMEROUS MUGS ON BETFAIR GIVE AWAY FOR FREE.

So, the fight goes exactly to script, Bute is hopeless, and the Boxing forum punters start to register their unease:

.you are the Forums no 1 fraud and worst tipster..(anonymous)

In a fit of pique after the final bell, McHunt could only respond with:

WHAT A BUM BUTE IS, HE NEVER CAME TO FIGHT.

HE JUST KEPT HIS LEFT ARM HANGING DOWN BY HIS SIDE AND WOULDN'T THROW IT, THAT WAS AUDLEY HARRISON ESQUE.

If anyone's in London today, keep an eye on the Thames, where you might see something that rivals the sinking of the Titanic in the annals of history!

DONT WORRY MUGS THE KING IS FINE AS SOON AS ESTONIA BANG ONE IN A CAN TAKE MY PROFIT AND MOVE ON

4-0 - yet another for the Grim Reaper!!

THIS ENDS 4-1 BOYS AND WHAT A SWEET VICTORY IT WILL BE FOR THE KING

JUNE - approaching the mid year point in the Mug Punting calendar, a month monopolised by the MUG HorseRacingExpert:

092 Brazil & Spain Double (Football) - HorseRacingExpert

Now, I'm never happy when there's a whiff of controversy surrounding a prediction, but I think things have been resolved equitably here!

FREE MONEY!!!! FREE MONIES!!!!! FREE!!!!

Note - regular patrons of this thread will reaslise that the words "free money" are our staple diet on this thread.

BRAZIL 8/11

SPAIN 1/10

Ordinarily, one might imagine that the OP is looking at a win double for Brazil and Spain.

My fans can double there money tonight with this absolutely fail safe 100% cast iron free money double, load up,lump on and count your sunday night profits on this amazing cash giveaway

There can be no doubt that this bet was a double, from the above.

enjoy your sunday and your winnings kids

So, Brazil go a goal down, Spain are struggling against China, and HorseRacingExpert states the obvious that it wasn't a win(back) double he was predicting after all but a 'lay' double.

there is nothing in the original post that states this is a back double,it is actually a lay double boys and we are nearly there so dont jinx it with 5 mins left

THE AFTERMATH:

Spain beat China

Brazil lose to Mexico

Therefore this constitutes as an Epic Mug Bet of 2012, and made all the more entertaining by the OPs dismal failure to change the bet from a back bet to a lay bet, and yet still lose.

100 Holland to beat Portugal (Football) - HorseRacingExpert

What an appropriate way to bring up the century of Epic Mug Bets, with a classic post from one of the leading MUGS!

**BANKER ALERT**BANKER ALERT** - a classic indicator of a post by a MUG punter! This is generally known as 'the opening gambit'.

HOLLAND 13/8 is a certainty people! load up your bank and hit the confirm button! winnings will follow at 10pm - the secondary statement, usually quoting short odds about an outcome, emphasizing the 'certain' nature of the specified outcome, and often accompanied by the assertion that profits will be collected at a specified time (and often involving usage of terms like 'cash desk' or 'payout window', which really are euphemisms for 'soup kitchen', and 'salvation army food distribution point' etc). In other words, a term like 'meet you at the payout desk' inevitably turns into 'bagsy first dibs on the out of date finger rolls from the skip outside Aldi'.

Quick, get on now before its to late! - the third stage of the MUG punt is normally an attention seeking strategy. Psychologists might suggest that this type of activity potentially derives from (a) being bullied at school, (b) being dropped on the head at a young age or (c) both (a) and (b).

The Outcome - Holland lose!!

A common trait of Epic MUG bets, defeat! This is usually accompanied by an obliterated bank, hastily followed by either (a) a period of inactivity on the forum whilst the MUG awaits the next instalment of his / her jobseekers allowance or (b) a rapid comeback after about 30 minutes, which is around the time it takes some of the money lending on line sites (QuickQuid / Ocen Finance / MoneyTree Finance) etc to approve a loan of £10 to cover the minimum deposit.

The Aftermath - a place in the Epic MUG Bets Hall of Fame!!

Keep 'em coming!

104 Germany v Greece: Germany to win to nil / keep a clean sheet (Football) - HorseRacingExpert

It is with some sadness that I announce the passing of one of this thread's legendary MUGS, HorseRacingExpert.

A coup of Epic Mug proportions was foiled today, as Greece managed to score not once, but twice against the might of Germany....a feat HorseRacingExpert considered unthinkable.

QUARTER FINAL 2 **BANKER ALERT**

GERMANY to win to nil 11/10

GERMANY to keep a clean sheet 4/5

We will play this one safe by placing both bets just in case Germany get bored and decide to wait till extra time before scoring, just for fun

BUT WE EXPECT TO WIN BOTH BETS IN A CANTER,THESE 2 PRICES ARE SO MUCH BIGGER THAN I EXPECTED AND I HAVE PLACED MY 2 BIGGEST BETS OF THE TOURNEMENT ON THE ABOVE SELECTIONS,MY FOLLOWERS SHOULD DRAIN EVERY PENNY THEY HAVE INTO THESE BETS

i would even go as far to say that Greece will not even have a single shot, let alone one on target

THIS IS THE BIGGEST FREE MONEY THAT YOU WILL EVER SEE IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL

Then, some in-play banter:

my biggest 2 bets of the tourney bob lad

easiest money you will ever come across

When Germany took the lead.....

thats game set and match (HorseRacingExpert already getting some practice in for his next incarnation - TennisBettingExpert),i have just asked betfair to pay me out now and save wasting my time

i am a genius bob, this is no fail bet

The, the coup de grace....a boast of a supremely confident man:

IF BOTH BETS DONT WIN,I WILL GLADLY STAND UP AND CALL MYSELF THE EPIC KING OF THE MUG BETS - why fly in the face of public opinion I hear you cry!

And now, for the sad part, as the Grim Reaper(bahn) brought his scythe down on the neck of HorseRacingExpert.....Greece get a breakaway goal, followed by a late (perhaps harsh) penalty!

i'm quitting the forum

Now, if you remember watching programmes like Quincey or Cannon etc in the 70s, there was always an Epitaph at the end of the programme. Here's the Betfair Football Forum equivalent (try and imagine an angelic choir playing in the background):

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that i am officially retiring from the football forum.

I would just like to say that i have enjoyed my time on here and all of your company, there has been some great banter and i will hold these memories dear to my heart.

I know that i have earned all of your respect and that i have made some friends for life,I hope you all have taken onboard the advice i have given you all and that you take the knowledge that you have learned from me and make a success out of yourselves in your gambling.

Thank you all for your support and good luck in the future

JULY

JULY was yet another month dominated by the uber-mug, HorseRacing Expert, who would definitely take the Mid-Summer Mug award hands down....here are some of his Epics from July:

108 Tsonga to beat Murray 3-0 & 3-1 (Tennis) - HorseRacingExpert

Well, well after a little break, it's like buses...you wait for a while then two classice MUG bets come along at once!

Our resident tipping expert turns his attention to tennis this time round, and terrorises the Tennis Forum with his betting ineptitude.

Where to start is the question, and where better than the winner of the mens title, Novak Djokovic. But hang on what's this I see..............

The BIGGEST CERTAINTY in the history of sport!!!!!

Novak Djokovich 9/5 to win WIMBLEDON

put on as much as you have and as much as you have ever placed on any bet before!!

its not often that you get to place a bet knowing 100% for certain that it will win

this is free money all day and night long

the layers of this man are totally moronic'

Novak Djokovich will deliver and he will deliver without breaking so much as a drop of sweat [HRE said this about St Nichiolas Abbey in another of his mug bets, and predictably, he got turned over at long odds on].

enjoy this master at his work and enjoy your money coming in

your expert has spoken and your expert is here to make you all money

you will very much regret it if you miss out on this money making machine

your forums number 1 tipster

Well, unless I'm mistaken, the unbeatable Novak didn't make the final let alone win it, so new ball please!! So the biggest certainty in the history of sport comes a cropper!

Now, not content with this epic MUG bet, as Jimmy Crciket used to say....'but there's more'.

**FREE MONEY** MY BIGGEST 2 TENNIS BETS EVER!!!

THIS IS IT GUYS,THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR,I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE CONFIDENT ABOUT LANDING A BET,THAN I DO RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS WITHOUT DOUBT FREE MONEY FROM YOUR 'EXPERT' AND FORUMS NUMBER 1 TIPSTER.

I AM A PROFESSIONAL GAMBLER AND THIS IS WHAT I DO,PRODUCE WINNERS,I WOULD ADVISE YOU ALL LUMP ON THESE 2 SELECTIONS

TSONGA to win 3-0                           12/1
TSONGA to win 3-1                           15/2

enjoy your winnings boys

So, of course, the majority of the forum do the complete opposite, back Murray, and hoover up all the cash lost by HRE's biggest ever bets. Easy money lads!

Now, we all realise that HorseRacingExpert has an army of fans out there, so to add a little balance to the argument, I just thought you'd like to see the other side of the story, so below is a testamonial from one of HRE's biggest fans, SportsDen:

"Fail Safe acca" Wednesday. Done ya money!
"Full bank Djokovic 9/5 to win Wimbledon" Done ya money!
"Laid Murray at 6/4 to get to the final" Done ya money!
"Tsonga to win 3-0 3-1" Done ya money!

(Are you seeing a pattern here HRE?)

But my favourite HRE declaration on another thread, "Murray won't break Tsonga!"

Tsonga first service game went to................Murray!

Now in fairness, you put your tips up before the events, no after-timing from you. But to stick in 1/20 & 2/13 shots as if you're some kind of soothsayer pointing the uneducated with no tennis knowledge in the right direction is laughable. Steering punters towards Lukas Rossol beating Nadal is tipping, not 1/20 shots!

Your ego got the beating it deserved, try some humility when advising punters and stop looking for "fans"

Oh dear!

109 Farhh to win the Eclipse (Racing) - HorseRacingExpert

So, HorseRacingExpert attempts to regain some credibility by focusing his attention on what he does best, providing quality, in depth & cutting edge analysis of the major championship horse races. The race under scrutiny: The Eclipse.

EVERYBODY LISTEN TO ME**SUPERNAP**
- typical attention seeking cry for help.

FARHH will be winning the Eclipse today and he will be winning it very easily indeed, stat mopping up this 3/1 and put all you have on him, this is a racing certainty gents

GET ON OR GET THE FU CK OUT OF MY FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, there was the normal mad rush to lay his selection based on his normal mug punts, but what in fact transpired..................

Some forumites thought he might have his work cut out against the highly rated Nathaniel, but they were shouted down with supreme confidence:

nathaniel FFS IF HE FINISHES IN THE FIRST 3,THEN I WILL QUIT THE FORUM AND NEVER RETURN - all been heard before!!

NATHANIEL
WHAT A MUG,JUST LEAVE THE RACING TO THE EXPERT YOU TOOL

The outcome: Nathaniel wins on his comeback!

HorseRacingExpert is visibly crestfallen.........as evidenced by the epic seethe below:

EVERYONE WHO WATCHED THE RACE,KNOWS THAT I BACKED THE BEST HORSE IN THE RACE,IF IT WAS NOT FOR OLD MAN FRANKIE WHO SHOULD BE FIRED FOR THAT RIDE,WHAT SORT OF IDIOT GETS A REALLY NICE BREAK FROM THE STALLS AND THEN YANKS THE FE CKING HORSE BACK TO THE BACK OF THE BACK
BY THE TIME HE HAD MADE HIS MOVE AND RUN ROUND THE OUTSIDE,THE HORSE WAS FE CKING KNACKERED BY THE TIME HE GOT TO NATHANIEL AND CAME TO THE END OF HIS RUN.

FACT-I WOULD HAVE WON WITH A BETTER JOCKEY-FACT

Another mug bet comes and goes, but HRE failed to live up to his promise to leave the forum.

Still, scant consolation I know, but at least he still has his fan base to cheer him up.......plenty of encouragement to be seen below:

"Laughing stock"

"HRE, you couldn't tip **** out of a bucket!" I believe the **** was a slang word for "excrement".

"you have done more full bank jobs than John Dillinger!"

"You are without doubt the WORST!! pair of tipsters (together with Betfair_Loser) i have ever come across in my life."

"He's obviously a massive coward as well as a duff tipster cos he seems to have gone extremely quiet."

114 St Nicholas Abbey to win the King George (Rcaing) - HorseRacingExpert

HRE is at it again....following St Nicholas Abbey over a cliff.

**BANKER OF THE CENTURY**

ST NICHOLAS ABBEY 5/1

4:35 ASCOT

Exuding an air of confidence that belies the awful nature of his tips, he opines:

KNOW A GOOD THING WHEN I SEE ONE,LUMP ON JOB

But, wait...what's that noise.....only the sounds of milions of keyboards countrywide (and possibly worldwide) clicking the pink button next to the name of St Nicholas Abbey. A huge 'reverse plunge'.

Icing on the cake from HRE:

only a total moron would back danedream tomorrow, you clueless mug

Result:

Danedream wins the KG; St Nicholas Abbey 3rd.

Layers around the country win millions!

Keep 'em coming!

117 Gary Anderson to beat Dean Winstanley (Darts) - HorseRacingExpert

The darts forum experienced the full benefit of an HRE 'tip' tonight. Once again, to quote a mathematical term, HRE proved he knows the square root of fook all about betting. Here's the story:

**MY BIGGEST DARTS BET EVER**100% CONFIDENT**

My fans have cleaned up so far (only thing they've been cleaning up is the shoite they get in following your tips, kid),as i am 100% for the tourney so far, lets keep making the money

GARY ANDERSON 8/15

This is what i call a full blooded banker,i am a close friend with Gary and we had a few pints down at the local this week and his game is in the very best of form,he is really getting it together

When challenged by another patron the the darts forum, HRE repsonds aggressively:

WHO IS THIS DARTS N BOOZE PUNK MAKING NOISES ON MY THREAD,LEAVE THIS TO THE BIG BOYS KID,YOUR NOT IN MY LEAGUE KID,YOU WILL LEARN THAT TONIGHT WHEN MY MATE GARY TARES UP THAT USELESS PUNK,PROBABLY AROUND 10-3,I WILL BE A SLAUGHTERING

And, the outcome, I hear you cry?

"Fourth seed Gary Anderson crashed out of the World Matchplay in the first round after a dramatic 13-11 defeat by Dean Winstanley.

A see-saw match went to a tie-break with the score locked at 10-10 and Winstanley held his nerve to close out a thrilling victory at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

Anderson looked to be cruising to victory when he opened up a 5-0 lead, then all of a sudden, his eyes glazed over, as if he was recalling an incident earlier in the week. Next thing you know, Winstanley took out 127 on the bull to get off the mark and a 12-darter made it 6-2.

The Scot had no answer to Winstanley's superb rally as he took out tops in a string of legs to level the match at 6-6.

Winstanley's sixth straight leg saw him open up an 8-6 advantage, but Anderson refused to roll over and battled back to force a tie break.

A 13-darter from Winstanley, however, earned a crucial break and he then found tops to clinch victory.

Fifth seed Wes Newton is safely through to the next stage after a 10-5 win over James Hubbard.

The youngster was celebrating his 20th birthday and he tried to celebrate in style as two 180s helped him cut the deficit to 5-4

But Newton proved the ultimate party pooper by taking five of the next six legs and secured the win with his second 91 finish".

When asked about his demise in the post match interview, Anderson blamed an unexpected midweek encounter whilst enjoying a quiet pint in his local.

"Suddenly, this ugly looking scrote, a right shifty number came up and plonked himself down next to me. He smelled of McDonalds happy meal (chicken dippers). Told me he was a professional gambler, just had a £10 advance come through from Wonga.com, and fancied having it all on me. Course, told the fackin' weirdo anything just to get rid of him like. Only later does me mucker Sid tell me that he's heard of this geezer, and he's called HorseRacingExpert from the Betfair forum. Tells me he couldn't tip sh!t from a wheelbarrow, and is like a bleedin' curse to anyone he tips. Course, I instantly regretted telling him I'd been playing a bit useful like!. You live and learn eh! All I can say is, if some ugly geezer approaches you in a bar, smelling of McDonald's, then tell him to do one!".

Now, just to add a bit of balance, here are a couple of testimonials for HRE from some his fans on the darts forum:

A few more classics from down muggery lane, and where HorseRacingExpert proved that his expertise certainly didn't stretch as far as athletics:

120 England v South Africa: back the draw (Cricket) - Millionaire_Morse

A classic from the cricket forum. MM was of the opinion that nothing could prevent the draw in the England v South Africa match, and proceeded over a couple of day period to ram it down everyone's throats. He even predicted buying a black BMW from his winnings. Of course, we all new it would end in tears:

what color bmw will i buy with my draw winnings ? opinions welcome

listen gents we all know it's GSM DRAW at the oval , it will take more than 200 overs to bowl a team out on that road . we know too that the draw is free money and that it's the greatest and easiest bet of all time .

i have lumped on the draw and will collect , so my question is what color will i choose when i go to buy a new bmw tomorrow with my draw winnings ?

pro morse

A short while later................

i will be coining it in off the draw here
i have to spend the winnings on something
looking forward to tomorrow . will report back what color i choose
will then pay off the loan on monday when it's a draw

Then, next day, brimming with confidence:

what price is the draw now mugs ?
easy win for pro morse
100 % strike rate

And even more:

where are all the bitters today ?
seething the draw is nailed on ?

Now then, I'm sure many forumites have seen the old spaghetti westerns, when the tumbleweed blows down the dusty street, presaging some kind of doom-laden event. Well, imagine this piece of tumbleweed blowing through the cricket forum, as things took a decided turn for the worse for Morse!

In fact, he wasn't heard from again on the thread, and of course, the draw was sunk, against the odds!

Now, rather than a black BMW, Morse spotted in his local 'Arfur Daley used car lot scouting for his new ride with a copy of Mobility Scooter Monthly in his hands!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=used+mobility+scooter

or as an alternative, a rather racy Reliant Robin, resplendent with sports trim:

124 Angelo Taylor to win & be placed MEN'S 400M Final (Olympic Athletics) - HorseRacingExpert

The world's biggest betting mug
was back to show the World how little he nows bout betting in the final of the men's 400m.

Mens 400m Hurdles FINAL *big priced BANKER BET*FREE MONEY* (was the bold headline that immediately sent shrewd punters to lump on the lay button)

*Angelo Taylor* (Angelo Dundee could probably have run the race faster)

at a massive 16/1 is going to take the GOLD medal in tonights race

it is an amazing price for this powerhouse from the USA

my fans and followers need to get stuck into him tonight,as i am an expert at this event and this sport (actually has no knowledge whatsoever of any betting medium)

Such was the level of his (misplaced) confidence, that he decided to have two maximum bets in the one event:

we are also having a MASSIVE BET on him to be in the TOP 3 at a grat price of 7/5

i cant lose tonight ( ),as i will be in massive profit even if he paces (well, he did pace a few tiimes, but crucially, he didn't place....well he did place in the sense that he actually finished, but news just came through that his finishing time was 2 tenths of a second slower than that recorded by Derek Redmond in 1992)

but i firmly believe that i will be paid out on both,as i know this event inside out

Oozing confidence minutes before the off:

not long now kids, will be some serious coin deposited back into my account after this winner (rather, how will I pay back Ocean Finance for another lost £10 deposit)

Angelo (running away together, running away together, he's so slow - lyrics courtesy of the Brotherhood of Man)) finished 5th, way of the pace/place, and a HUGE double doom loss for the forum's 'expert' punter.

SEPTEMBER

September saw the emergence of Return_Of_Dawsey, and he stunned vieweres with his mug bets:

133 Cilic to beat Murray (Tennis) - Return_Of_Dawsey

Just spotted this one, and potentially one that will live long in the pantheon of Epic Mug Bets!

The SCOTTISH loser is going out tonight, Cilic is CRUSHING him.

When questioned about his bet:

Cilic about to go two sets up so yeah I think crushing him is the right word. and 'He's well in control you muppet'

And then, responding arrogantly to the abuse when Murray starts a big fightback:

I've maxed out a lay of Murray 3-1 now, no chance of him winning 3 sets in a row, horrible odds.

Also layed him outright very big.

The gift that keeps on giving MUG MURRAY

At this point, we wonder.....will it end in tears for Dawsey? The man from Del Monte say "Yes!"

However, Dawsey remained undeterred, and unwavering in his support of Cilic:

CILIC is still massively juicy odds so I've topped up on that also...... He's outplaying him.

Even going so far as to be taunting his fellow forumites with:  This thread is uber quiet now

But then, the inevitable happens, Cilic (cursed by Dawsey) can only muster 3 wins in the next 20 games, and Murray romps to victory!

Then, of course, we have the statement that makes this MUG BET complete and EPIC, namely, the old greening out routine:

I greened out fwiw so I'm happy as larry right now.

Very pleasing scenes...think this one will have a decent shelf life!

Keep 'em coming!

134 Berdych to beat Murray (Tennis) - Return_Of_Dawsey

But then.... a case of deja vu.......

Andy Murray can't win today

Berdsh!t absolutely destroying him on court and leads 1 set to 0.

I have watched the whole of the first set and Murray seems to have forgotten how to play tennis. I just can't see him winning this match from here.

Max lay of Muggay @ 2.12 is a superb bet imo.

Displaying the same level of swaggering confidence as he did with Cilic......

Early days mugs, Berdsh!t will still win with ease.

Of course, after Dawsey's words of wisdom, Berdych fell apart and could only win 3 out of the next 18 games, as Murray romped home again!

Pleasing scenes once more.

Keep 'em coming!

138 Lay Murray in US Open Final v Djokovic (Tennis) - Return_Of_Dawsey

Imagine this scenario. I'd liken it to one of those epic cinematic moments in film history, such as Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes discovering the Statue of Liberty protruding from the sand on the beach. This time, in
a post-apocalyptic future, someone happens upon a gnarled, battered piece of hardware buried in the sand, and upon opening it, finds that it's one of those ancient laptop machines, which somewhat miraculously, is still
functional. After  a few clicks, our finder is looking at a screen of writing, which on closer inspection, is the Football Forum of Betfair.  Our protagonist casts his mind back to history lessons at school before the Great Event,
and can vaguely recall learning about the world of gambling, and some of the most startling feats of betting ineptitude known to the history of man.

Staring at the screen his memory is kindled further upon seeing certain familiar words like 'mug', full bank job, and what must be some ancient money lending organisation known as Ocean Finance. He distinctly remembers
one of the funniest examples of abominable tipping he was taught in the old days, which described the worst ever sequence of tennis bets known to man. Over time it simply became known as the Dawsey Syndrome. And
lo and behold, on navigating futher into a thread he discovered entitled 'Epic Mug Bets of 2012', he finds himself staring directly at this legendary debacle in its full glory.

*** MUGGAY to choke AGAIN ***

He looks at the OP (ancient term for person starting a particlar thread), and finds it's the legendary loser, Return_Of_Dawsey himself. His interest is piqued immediately, and he is compelled to read on.
There again is that reference to 'MUG', which the reader assumes is some kind of derogatory term often aimed at gamblers who would have a difficult time recognising their @rse from their elbow.

Legend has it that Dawsey had earned himself a place in the Epic Mug Hall of Fame by confidently predicting in 3 consecutive matches that Murray would get beaten in the US Open. This described the third of those events, when Murray faced his stiffest task yet, again tough Serbian Novak Djokovic
in the final.

With the last of his dwindling financial resources, Dawsey staked all on a defeat for Murray, and confidently predicted it thus:

Djoker @ 1.45 is stealing money because the scot choker will do his normal thing and choke in a major final. I doubt the SCOTTISH joker will even take a set against the best player in the world right now. Djoker was simply amazing against Ferrer (ferrer is twice the player muggay is) so muggay stands no chance here tbh. I have lays of Murray winning outright @ 9/1 and also topped up against @ 3.2.. I should really take a red here but because Muggay chokes in every final I will just let it run and count the winnings later.

Ever confident in his ability (often misguided), Dawsey liked to brag to fellow forumites about how he was helping them with their financial issues:

I am giving the members of the great BFF a nailed on certainty!!

Despite Murray playing well and forging into a convincing lead, Dawsey could only envisage defeat for the Scotsman:

Murray gets infront for the first time and his arse goes. The guy cannot win. He is a massive choker.

As Djokovic fought back to take the third set, Dawsey sprang into action with the prediction:

THIS IS OVER CHAPS. ALL HAIL THE CROATIAN

In one respect Dawsey was right, it was all over, but for Djokovic, as Murray powered to victory and his first elusive Grand Slam victory.

Legend has it that Dawsey was never heard of again on the Betfair forum, and that due to financial difficulties, was forced into a life of prostitution, and was often roumoured to be have been spotted around the seedier side of town
complaining about having something called 'an @arse like a Japanese flag'.

Our protagonist closed the battered laptop, delirious with enjoyment after making a discovery of such historical significance.

"Wait til I let my friend know about this....he's always telling me that his great great grandfather was a legendary gambler, and would very much appreciate sharing my discovery..."

And with that, he opened up his mobile, scrolled though his address book to the H section, and alighted upon the name of his old friend HorseRacingExpert IX............

139 Everton to beat Newcastle (Football) - Millionaire_Morse

Like a blast from the past, epic mug (one of the earliest contributors to this thread) Millionaire_Morse returns with a bang!

My heart goes out to Morse, because after all his betting debacles in the past (a few on here), it's taken him all Summer to scrape together the £10 for his latest deposit, then he fires it all on a 1.17 shot for Everton to win when 1-0 up home to Newcastle. Here we go:

EVERTON AT 1.17 = EASIEST FREE MONEY EVER - Backing Everton when already a goal ahead at home.

have you seen the everton record when scoring the first goal gents ?? - Swaggering with confidence (but will it be misplaced confidence I hear you ask?)

full bank job at 1.17 , pick up the free money on offer from the mugs - the mugs will undoubtedly have been shaking in their boots (in reality, laying the @rse off Everton)

relax mugs . everton will still win . victory is assured. - Was this the first hint of weakness form Morse, having to reassure himself with this remark?

everton are certs . - that's been said before...punters still laying the @rse off Everton....

come back at ft and say well done to me mugs .

Well, two disallowed goals for Everton, and Newcastle claw their way back into the game with a double from Demba Ba!

Punters flock back to the thread to say well done to....oops, rip the sh!te out of Morse, but as usual, he's gone awol. Probably won't see him again till the Spring, once he's cobbled together his next deposit!

OCTOBER

In October and November, most of the MUGS seemed to disappear off the face of the forum. Having said that, even though October was short on quantity, it was high on quality, especially one of my favourites, the first one below. Also pleasing was the fact that Thick Stoke Hater! mr fishfingers was also exposed for his MUG PUNTING.

142 USA to win Ryder Cup (Golf) - Return_Of_Dawsey

Destined to become one of the all-time classic MUG bets this one!

Even goes close to pushing the I_McHunt_Pro-Punter 1.01 busted bet on MK Dons to beat Bradford when already 3-0 up!!

Dawsey strode confidently to the tee, resplendent in his crisply starched plus fours and announced to the betting world:

America are absolutely destroying us right now.

It looks like America will be 6-2 up overnight.

LUMP everything you can on the yanks @ 1.55

Now, there's a confident man for you....already counting his winnings, and the prospect saying goodbye to his cardboard box under Charing Cross Bridge for a night in a comfy bed in the hostel. And a proper breakfast, no more licking the remnants off discarded Big Mac wrappers.

The world looked on expectantly......

Dawsey, having used all his skills of observation, came to the conclusion that the USA were now in an even better position, and had to take the plunge again:

ALL IN @ 1.23

AMERICA FREE MONIES

Risking everything, including his signed Cristiano Ronaldo thong (languishing in a window in a nearby pawn shop - resplendent with skid marks), Dawsey sat back waiting for the inevitable to happen.

And then, the inevitable did happen....things took a turn for the worse. Europe started winning, first gradually, fighting tooth and nail, and then the tide turned, the USA dam burst, and Martin Keymer sank the put that meant Europe retained the Ryder Cup against all the odds. When Tiger failed to hole out at the 18th, Europe were guaranteed victory!

Imagine the scene, all the hobos and unwashed crowded around the Richer Sounds window with Dawsey (many of whom had followed him in on the USA) watching the drama unfold on screen....the sudden inevitable feeling of crushing defeat. They turn to look at their betting guru, who stares back at them with bloodshot, tear soaked eyes. Dawsey is contemplating how he can get his Cristiano thong back from the pawnbrokers. Right lads, £5 for a bu m, and if I get 20 takers, the skidmarked thong is mine again! Let's go lads, form an orderly queue!

The curse of the FREE MONEY MUG bet strikes again!

Don't let this one become buried!

Keep 'em coming!  Laugh

145 Lay Schalke v Arsenal (Football) - mrfishfingers

A Thick Stoke Hater gets his just desserts:

I am the Money King- And I bring  a bet for all non-mugs on the forum. Both of you.
Arsenal haven't been defeated at home against overseas opposition since 2003. 45 games. Including Milan (2), Barcelona (2), R Madrid and Juve.
But the mugs out there are intent on giving you the money.
So oblige by laying Schalke @ 3.9

You are welcome, Im spending my money on  a new gazebo.

This debacle was perfectly summarised by BruceWillis, so I'll leave it to him......

- OP starts free money thread with big stats quotes
- Bleets on and on that it can't fail
- Bet fails miserably
- Lashes out at the winners like 666_v, denying that he even lost money
- classic case of a huge mug

Summary: OP is a huge mug

End

Somewhat bizarrely, there were no looged Epic Mug bets in November. I had to resurrect an old classic in order to keep the punters happy.....

A blast from the past 'Phoenix from the Ashes' style, to whet the appetite for things to come:

DECEMBER

The final month of an entire year of Epic Mug Bets; in truth December was a bit of a quiet month, but it did herald the emergence of potentially one of the MUGS of the future, in BEER BEER BEER SEX & BEER. Some say he is the reincarnation of incomparable MONEY TREE. Furthermore, another Thick Stoke Hater, mugmerised was immortalised as a mug punter by yours truly. And on that bombshell...............

149 Double Whammy mug bets on the horses (Horseracing) - BEER BEER BEER SEX & BEER

The confident prediction:

La danza place cert

The outcome (Part I):

'ouch, not happy'.

The chase:

fingal bay to get me back on song.

The outcome (Part II):

'was very poor run there'.

150 Chelsea to beat Corinthians (Football) - BEER BEER BEER SEX & BEER

This mug punter rattles up an impressive hattrick in a late attempt to grab the Epic Mug Punter title.

Free cash. Chelsea will win final.

Pile in.

Trust me they beat the braziliams.

Just checked the result, and it looks like they lost?

Keep 'em coming!

151 Andy Murray to win SPOTY (Other Sports) - mugmerised

Promising to make many on the footie forum rich, mugmerised announced another sure fire winner:

Andy Murray Will Win Sports Personality Of The Year 2012

You heard it here first lads, 17/1

Scots will pile in, English have warmed to him after Wimbledon and there have been many shocks in the past, Zara Phillips? Giggs? [remember the wrinkled one?} Rusedski? plus I can't see people voting for another cyclist after Cavendish last year, we don't like favourite in this country, we prefer underdogs.

Feel free to leave a Thank-You note tonight.

Murray couldn't even be @rsed to turn up to the event, he was too busy with his off season job as a pool attendant (with Lennox Lewis) in the USA somewhere! Even his logic about the Scots piling in failed to address the fact that at a cost of £1.50 per call, probably only two calls in total would have been received from North of the Border!

Thankfully, he forgot to leave a forwarding address for the thank-you note!

Keep 'em coming!

152 Al Sadd to beat Al Arabi (Football) - khhinji

Now, indeed those who had loaded up their full bank on As Sadd, were now All Sad  ............the OP might have been from Quatar, but this really stuck in the throat of those now wandering the streets homeless after their life savings were destroyed!

Never mind...the OP will just need to find another oil well!

Keep 'em coming!Laugh

he is a bit green and obviously needs tutoring in mugginess as he has not used any' "free money "or "all in full bank job " superlatives yet, but that will come with expierience and all mugs have to start somewhere , still a lot to learn but a start  full of promise and one to watch for next seasons epic mugbets thread .

"Wait til I let my friend know about this....he's always telling me that his great great grandfather was a legendary gambler, and would very much appreciate sahring my discovery..."

And with that, he opened up his mobile, scrolled though his address book to the H section, and alighted upon the name of his old friend HorseRacingExpert IX............

A wonderful fred. Trying to continue it was like Moyes following Fergie. I actually think BetfairDuddy is too big a cretin to grace this thread.

Sadly I never saw this.  There's also the fact that he's Serbian.

Did you ever read the Isner v Levine thread on the tennis forum?  Was started by Mugz Bunny.  Still my all time favourite thread on this entire forum.  Dawsy has a leading role.
